Chrono Phantasma Story Discussion [fun tentatively allowed again]
Luminos564 replied to Chaoschao222's topic in Zepp Museum
Wait, how does that work? So there were ultimately 3 Ragnas involved? 2 from CT, with one becoming the Black Beast (since the fusion can't be undone until someone physically separates Nu and Ragna from within) and the other to become "Bloodedge" while CP Ragna becomes "Bloodedge" as well? And curiously, performs the exact same actions as a CT Ragna who originally became Bloodedge would? Ugh, I hate time-travel. This is downright bananas. -
[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

So Ramlethal starting from April 8th? Works for me. Bedman hasn't really been all that interesting for a newblood character. I look forward to seeing her in action. -

And it all came right back to bite him in the ass. Hard. Just ask Jin and Noel. Well, maybe just Noel. So I gotta say it, Bloodedge being CP timeline Ragna makes no sense to me. Why do I say this? Because Dark War-era Celica recognizes him from that time. If Bloodedge is CP Ragna and the only other Ragna is the Dark War Black Beast, then how could Celica have known CP Ragna beforehand if CP is the first time he is ever technically sent back to the Phase Shift novels? Maybe I'm making this more complicated than it is, but I just plain can't wrap my head around it. -
Is it just me or was BBCP's localization job rather sloppy?
Luminos564 replied to Jotamide's topic in Zepp Museum
Inconsistent audio is a big one for me. Sudden spikes in volume, audio skips (currently ENG Izayoi and Azrael suffer from it), unspoken character lines, words spoken not matching the dialogue (especially that minute-long animated cutscene during a certain part of the story). -

Maybe I came off as a little too vindictive, but rest assured the only reason I even suggest taking this up with ASW is because I know they can do better. I know some of them are minor, but still if you could have a game without these minor annoyances would you? That's just how I view it, personally. Hey now, did you think I didn't buy the game because of these issues? It cost me a pretty penny too and I was first in line that day to get it at my retailer. I'll probably buy the next one too and whatever revision ASW might have cooked up (if they do at all), regardless of how ASW might screw up the localization in the future. I just wish they wouldn't screw up in such an obvious way. Did I come off as offended? I'm sorry. Rest assured I wasn't. I just tend to be a bit "into" things concerning games I like. No worries yeah ? -

If you're talking strictly for tournament/pros then we have misunderstood each other from the get-go. Obviously a player who only cares for the game as a means of playing tournaments isn't going to give much thought to the "fluff" nor are they going to wait in the first place. But that's the thing. You could literally remove the story, voice acting, BGMs and SFX from the game and they might not care about it since, as you already stated, they only need the game to "function" (as in the character does what the commands require of him) in order to get their ranking in. I was never arguing for them when I presented my scenario. I was arguing for those that do care more for the game beyond a means of cathartic satisfaction of winning or losing. But, didn't you say people who are tournament players are most likely the ones not willing to wait and already have their JPN copy? Why would the NA release matter to them if people are just going to use the JPN version? And again, I was not talking from their perspective. Mostly because I myself have never participated in a tournament and I don't plan on arguing for a group of people of which I am not a part of. I hope that clears it up a bit. -
Is it just me or was BBCP's localization job rather sloppy?
Luminos564 replied to Jotamide's topic in Zepp Museum
Yeah, it was. It was all of 5 days of waiting and boom, there we had it (EU still got shafted and had to wait until April the following year) and was damn near flawless in the translations IIRC. Then again, this was back when Aksys was localizing it. CS was a bit of a delay (JPN: July 1, NA: July 27) but it was still mostly acceptable and barring the only hiccup I recall (Lambda's 1 spoken line not matching the dialogue) it was still good. From Extend onward, the wait increased heavily and the localization quality also declined. -

Luminos564 replied to Jotamide's topic in Zepp Museum
Is that so? Then, for the sake of argument Jourdal would you personally condone ASW's decision to treat Xrd's localization the same way they handled BBCP? Let's have them theoretically mistype character tutorials, translations that sometimes feel like they tossed a drunken cat at a keyboard for an hour, audio issues up the wazoo or removing content between the two versions. And by content, I mean literally anything. Like for instance, let us have them remove the ability to listen to the character voices again. Or for whatever reason, how about they remove the gallery between version? Since they don't affect gameplay, am I correct in assuming this is "fair" to the people who were most excited to see a new GG in years? As an added bonus, let's make the people waiting on the localized version wait an additional 6 months. Why not? They took almost a half-year between versions this time around. What's another 2 or 3 months to them? If they personally cared about making sure the game is readily available for people, NA and EU would have gotten the game in a timely manner. But this did not happen. So I figure, if you're already making your other potential customers wait, you might as well use the time to polish the game. -

Out of curiosity, is Aksys really that busy? I don't think I've seen them publish much more than BB and some other miscellaneous projects. Then again, I don't often hear many news about their releases from the sites I frequent. -
Chrono Phantasma Story Discussion [fun tentatively allowed again]
Luminos564 replied to Chaoschao222's topic in Zepp Museum
I respectfully disagree Narroo. The word "ruin" is most often associated with destruction in the English language and an incredibly thorough one. To have "brought ruin" to an object most often means to destroy or at least damage it beyond repair. Any given English dictionary would likely tell you the same. At the least, it would mean damaging the person/object in question enough so that it no longer works as intended, none of which the Imperator was able to accomplish against the Master Unit. It just wasn't a good choice word for the English translation I find. Then again, the Imperator loves her long-winded theatrics and use of grandiose speech... -

Luminos564 replied to Chaoschao222's topic in Zepp Museum
*Sigh* as I thought, the meaning behind it in the English version is lost. Dammit ASW, would it kill you to look up the definition of "consistency"? Then again, it isn't like it didn't happen before. There was a similar problem in the English version where Izanami claimed to have "brought ruin (meaning destroyed) to the Master Unit" when in fact she did no such thing. All of which could have been shoved into the Chronophantasma side with no ill effect to the narrative. But I do agree they should make the choice of either a singular, linear story or go for character specific ones. There's advantages and disadvantages to both. With multiple character stories, we get to learn more about these characters and why they do what they do, something which is sorely lacking in the way BBCP handles it (see Amane, Bullet and Azrael). But on the other hand, a singular path allows the narrative to be direct and to the point, cutting out the filler and getting to the important information the player should process. Personally, I am OK with either though if I had my choice, I would pick the character specific stories. BBCP might as well have been a Ragna-solo show since it's he who gets the most development here and the story practically gravitates around him. Oh and Celica but she satellites around him so much, it doesn't matter much at all. Translation: Until you see their lifeless, bloated carcass assume they are A-OK and ready to rumble for the next game. -
Chrono Phantasma Story Discussion [fun tentatively allowed again]
Luminos564 replied to Chaoschao222's topic in Zepp Museum
Just got through 100% of the Story Mode. It...had its ups and downs. The Six Heroes side left me particularly unimpressed. It didn't serve much outside of giving a very brief overview of what happened during the Dark War. Strangely, they completely omitted Kazuma Kval and how he eventually becomes Terumi/Hazama. I realize that the Encyclopedia/Glossary explains it but that is not present in the localized version, making Trinity calling him by that name a "Who the hell is Kazuma" moment for a player who has no access to the information surrounding it. Sector 7 section was no better. It added almost nothing. You could have taken it out completely from the game and the end result wouldn't have changed in the least. Really, the best part of Story Mode was Chronophantasma. It has the most development and is the most involved of the 3 sections. I found myself enjoying both Azrael and Saya/Izanami the most here, even if Azrael does almost nothing of importance and Izanami has less screen-time until he very end. Though, Chronophantasma might as well be titled "Ragna's Week of Pain". Seriously, I was expecting him to not have an easy ride but geez, when I'm finally able to understand what was being said, it makes it sound even worse. I'm honestly surprised the character didn't outright decide to take Izanami up on her offer from the beginning. By the way, in the epilogue, Rachel refers to Ragna as "carrying a burden whose evil will consume the world". Is this consistent with the JPN version? The phrasing makes it seem less like Ragna has an internal force/entity that's trying to devour him and more like a situation is going to cause him to do this. -

Luminos564 replied to Jotamide's topic in Zepp Museum
Still no excuse. They had 6 months from the JPN release. Plan your work accordingly if you have to, but get it done right. I'd rather have had them take an extra 3 months if it meant not having a sloppy localization. Besides, Team Red should be in charge of Guilty Gear and it's related work. Team Blue is the one dedicated to Blazblue and Persona 4 Arena, so them supposedly needing work done on GG holds no water. Agreed. They pull the same stunt with GG as they did with CP and I'll bet my ass people will be furious. BB is an accepted target since most don't take it as seriously. But GG is a whole other story and people will definitely be vocal about it. I mentioned this elsewhere, but we really ought to compile a list of things missing or otherwise "wrong" with BBCP and upload it for ASW to see. I sadly do not have recording capabilities, but I can go over as much detail as I can and provide the info if anyone is willing to take on the task. -
*Sigh* that's sounding like some Uwe Boll-inspired BS. I can tolerate mistakes...up to a point. However what I personally cannot tolerate is someone knowing the product is bad, or at least not as good as it could be, but deciding that they don't give enough of a shit to care. ASW, that's not how you retain your fans nor is it how you attract new ones. Speaking of which... Oh FFS, how do you screw up a damn character tutorial? Not only is this an outright lie but imagine what happens if a new player, for whom these tutorials were made for to begin with, reads it what do you think his/her reaction will be when they test it out themselves moments later?
-
I am thinking that someone ought to compile a list of these errors and make ASW aware of them. Looking at most of these amateur mistakes (typos, audio spikes and skips, etc.) it seems that, while it isn't as bad as Extend, it is still sloppy. I realize that I must sound like an insufferable jackass over this, but it is only because I think the game is otherwise great. The voice cast is stellar on both sides of the spectrum (barring a certain exception), the gameplay is phenomenal and the story is otherwise better than before. If they cannot seem to eliminate or notice these errors on their own, then I figure someone pointing them out might make them more thorough next time. Because honestly, you can simply look at the English version of that one animated scene and think "Yup. Perfect". I'm gonna chalk it up to ASW wanting to save money by not hiring Aksys and localizing it themselves. Unfortunately, they're definitely not as skilled at it as Aksys is and it shows. Extend was the rock bottom of that and while CP is better, it is still a far cry from what I'd consider acceptable.
-
It doesn't matter whether or not I, you or the rest of BB playerbase know what Izayoi's English Astral line should be. That is not the point. The point is quality control and overall presentation. Most audiences can forgive poor visuals, but they cannot forgive poor sound quality. It is the easiest way in which a player's immersion is broken which is more than a little "nitpick". I dunno how attentively you've followed Arcade or Story Mode, but I'm not even done with either and I've already seen more than a "few" of the errors I mentioned. And my irritation at it isn't because I believe every game should be handled perfectly. No, my issue is the fact that, unlike with Extend, it took them 6 months to bring this out going so far as to remove the Encyclopedia/Glossary section away and it STILL has such blatant, amateur mistakes. Extend was a rushed project and even though I don't praise its localization I could understand why it had been poor. But CP had more time, has less things to translate from the Japanese version so ergo it has no justifiable excuse for it. Added, it is 2014 already. You're charging people full retail price (and even more in the case of the LE Box) and you can't even bother to click on the F7 button?
-
Honestly, I WISH that were the case with the ENG side. I've been going through the various translations from Tutorial, to Arcade to even Story Mode. And they're all riddled with typos, outright translation errors, audio issues (like having character's spoken words not matching the dialogue written, missing lines and audio-skips) or any combination of the above. Frankly whoever they had on the job should be embarrassed at the quality control. It's 2014 and they had 6 months to make sure there was as little mistakes with the localization. Even if I were to ignore it in things like the tutorials and arcade, it does not excuse having so many of those mistakes in Story Mode, arguably one of the big selling points to getting the localized version. Don't get me wrong: it is still much better than Extend, but that's like saying a car crash is better than a burning building because less people died in the former.

Luminos564 replied to Chaoschao222's topic in Zepp Museum
I assume you mean the whole "Oh yeah, the world's gone to shit and people are turning into seithr like popped helium balloons"? Oh and Ragna running off to who-knows-wheres-ville after becoming a rampaging incarnation of destruction. -
<<<<<< What this one? What's wrong with it ? So after looking at videos, it seems like ASW actually kept the same amount of moves that eat up the 2C buff. In P4A: they had 5C, JC and Ghastly Wail all use it up. But this time, JC no longer uses it (likely because it now causes ground bounce on counter hit) and instead the Bufudyne series uses it up. I wonder, would JC using the 2C buff+counterhit really have been that good?
-
I wouldn't say so anymore for P4U2. Akihiko's damage has diminished sure, but he's got some real nasty ways of ruining Lizzie's day now (like being able to induce silence for one). His damage, while somewhat lowered from P4A, remains fairly consistent while Lizzie's has both dropped and struggles to match it. Personal opinion? Match is now more towards Akihiko's favor, though still not as bad as say Lizzie vs. Yu, Mitsuru, Teddie and pretty much everyone else that isn't Labrys. Now, Falco252 brought up an interesting point: since they already released the mook with all the frame data, is it really possible we could be getting a re-balance patch? I dunno. If they released the new version in a month (date has not been mentioned has it?), wouldn't that make the mook inaccurate information then? A part of me really wishes for it but at the same time, I don't want to get my hopes up, y'know?
-
You know your character balance is screwy when players are reduced to praying to the ASW Patch pantheon. To be frank, I think I and many of us here have run out of things to say about the current Lizzie. I guess we will need to wait and see what ASW has planned for the "new version" they announced.
-
Exaggerations aside, it's not like Lizzie isn't hard to read to begin with. Her options are very limited, much more so than any other character (despite you know, supposedly having a lot of moves for multiple situations). Couple that with characters like Yu who can straight up no-sell 90% of her stuff and you've got a recipe for disaster of the highest order.

This is a term I saw used multiple times in the UNiB board so I'd like some clarification: what exactly does "kuso" mean for a fighting game (or any game for that matter)? I mean I know the word is Japanese for "garbage" or, perhaps more indignant, "crap" but what makes a game designated with the "kuso" stigma? Is it character balance, or mechanics or just plain gameplay overall? I'm really curious as to how P4U2 could have come to such a state or what the reasons behind that might be. OK boss and thank you ('.')7.

Well, the LE Box DOES show the original waifu image in the artbook, making me question as to why bother censoring the box itself in the first place. But oh well, at least the zoomed in faces are nice to look at. But only on Celica and Noel. I seriously doubt any official art from Rachel will have her show any expression beyond a resounding "meh". Not as bad. At least you don't have random gibberish or characters suddenly going into Japanese from English during story mode. Izayoi's AH having an audio-skip is grating but manageable. Another thing I also noticed, when using tutorial section BGMs, Sector 7 is called "section7" even though it is spelled correctly everywhere else. Arcade mode also has issues (reportedly) but nothing too major. Maybe they split it for the sake of the retailers or something. At least they keep it correct in the logo. I thought it was supposed to be after the Vita version is released (so sometime during the summer). But I might be wrong on that. Arcade already got it however.
-
YESSSsssss. This pleases the French-accented octopus that lives in my head. Not really what I meant by worse (should'da specified). I meant that Lizzie is in a worse situation now than that of even CS1 Rachel. Rachel at least had troopers that were willing to go through her darkest hour no matter what. Lizzie has people abandoning ship left and right. This. A myriad times this.Come on ASW, you can do so much better with her. It can't be THAT hard to give her something resembling a fighting chance. Note that I am saying "fighting chance" as opposed to "make her top-tier candidate" (though I certainly wouldn't mind some love in the latter *hinthintnudgenudge). Aside from the winners and new version, was there anything else of import?
