  1. ^^ I've considered that, but Vegas is 4200km away from us. Gas comes down to ~$130/per if we can cram 8 in a minivan, but I'll be damned if we could do that for 40h straight. A round trip would take us a whole week. That's a lot of time off work to ask for, not to mention it being exhausting. :\
  2. Closest US airport is likely 100-150km away minimum, we'd have to look into it. Thanks for the tips, the plane ticket is really what drives up the price for us. The cheapest we've seen here is more or less ~$650. It's a big deterrent for poor students. :\
  3. The rest of that Haku: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tJDokI9u6Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXwEU3B31ck Looks like 6c will be used more often now to score a knockdown. It might even be a good situational anti-air to blow away AD/jump ins.
  4. Montreal is debating whether or not we should go. We've got a couple obstacles though, especially money. Any EC guys know how to keep costs extra low even when including plane tickets? We're pretty much looking at $1k/person right now all told, and that's a hell of a lot...
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaH_6Awx8EQ The Haku's pressure in the last round was boss. I like this guy. Next matches are a bit depressing. They also aren't as good as the first Haku above. Skip to the end for the first (~10:20). Second vid is second match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGOW18nEAH4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hNloAUKZow
  6. They aren't useless! Throws are legit, you just can't be predictable which is why they get teched in the first place (and that's what I was talking about in my previous post). TRM is especially useful when playing as Haku, for example. Going for a throw once in a while is good to keep them on their toes too, even if they tech often. Unless you're the one local guy here who techs throws like he has a Six Sigma certification for it. Man, fuck that guy. >_> (j/k dude if you're reading this, you know I love you. <3) I don't doubt it. BB isn't on GG's level for mixups, but some characters have scary mixup/pressure. Also, I don't OS throw. It's for wusses. :P What's the point, anyway? If they bait it, well, yeah. Tech the throw or block properly!
  7. ^ They are if you're looking for it. Pure reaction is a bit overrated, but when accounting for experience and anticipation, it's expected that you should be able to block/tech on time. Setups and conditioning will mess you up, but it's easier to block/tech if you anticipate it.
  8. Throw Reject is a mechanic implemented to prevent mashing for an easy throw escape. Basically, if you press throw just before being thrown yourself, it will give you a TRM message (in other words, you got grabbed out of your throw's startup frames). In the case of the command throw above, it came out faster than your throw, so you got countered. Command throws in general come out very quickly, though there are a couple exceptions. For this reason, it's not advisable to go for a throw on Tager unless you set up the situation. An annoying feature of this mechanic is that you will get TRM'd if you went for a throw reject too early even if you only pushed the button once. To make sure this doesn't happen, wait until you see the green (or purple) "!", and push throw. No, getting thrown in blockstun is what creates the purple "!!". If you were mashing jab while in blockstun and got thrown, then you will get throw countered. TRM is specific to the throw mechanic and does not affect anything else.
  9. Good shit LK, I love reading these. I used to re-read the GG list back in the day because it was nice, juicy info. That said, Hakumen has the game's highest max damage, not Ara. 6c FC leads to a potential 11.5k, and Mugen is instant-death on anyone. Outside of these I think there's a 10star 10k+ Hotaru FC corner combo, but it was posted a long time ago. Top 'o the line stuff right there whatever the case.
  10. Thanks a ton for the info! Looks like it's a bit more complex than I thought.

  11. It isn't, though it largely depends on the city. MTL spends some $150m on snow removal alone for your average winter, which comes down to ~$10-40k/head depending on where you live. It varies a lot because of topography and available space for dumping snow. Sometimes there's no choice but to go outside of the city to get rid of it.
  12. Didn't you guys bring in the army last year or something? *Snickers* We got 4m dumped on us 2-3y ago. By the end of winter, snow banks on lawns were up to 6m in height. We dealt with it.
  13. Hey Spark, I got a frame data Q: how do blockstrings work? For example, let's say a move is -1 on block, but cancels into a move with 7f of startup. Does this mean there's an 8f gap?

  14. Eh? Not really, but you do have to train yourself to punish it. Just know that he's vulnerable for 11f after landing, and you'll see that you have enough time to get in a good poke on reaction. J.D is an exceptionally good move, though. It's relatively safe in the right situation, and a free 5c x2 link combo right off the bat into 4k++ damage + knockdown. However, it's still a counter and vulnerable to being baited. I agree with the sentiment.
  15. They're annoying until you get used to them. 4c has plenty of recovery on it. You can AD in for free if it whiffs, and some characters can low profile the move. J.C somewhat covers air entry, but that's about it. Neither leads to much damage, either. His counters have to have fast startup or else they're useless. Also note that they have a ton of recovery frames if the Haku whiffs. Free CH. I sense much salt in your veins. I didn't even do it to you, man! Besides, 6c is slow as hell. Parry that shit. Well, there was that 7k corner combo I got going... If you can land it, lol.
  16. Why is Haku a troll character?
  17. Is Hakumen really B tier? Well, seeing the tier that way it makes sense, but still. He's a solid character in CS1. Not touching the burgeoning Tao convo, lol. That's a can 'o worms if I ever saw one. I'll just say I agree with the list.
  18. Hmm... Hmmmmm...... HMMMMMMM........ ... He's legit. Let's add Walljumpman to the list of NA Hakus to watch. There was also this extra NCI vid of his posted in the Valk forum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E23lPrrclIM Not the best Haku, but he's got some good stuff going. Also, I am so stealing that j.D -> 5c -> full shippu gimmick.
  19. Hell yeah we've come a long way. From ~5 back in Nov of '09 to 30+ in over a year, and LK's coming. We're hitting the big times, baby! Next up, Evo? :D

  20. You do? Shit, I never see you! o_O Yeah, I have strong focus like that. Eh, I don't mind chatting unless I really have to bust out what I'm working on. Unfortunately, opportunities for that are probably slim this semester outside of the BB meets. But you never know, hit me up sometime and we'll see how it goes, haha. You sure about the job? My brother could probably really help you out there. The guy might hate on FGs, but he's brilliant. His hobby is building jet engines after all, lol.

  21. Good God. Lord Knight just said in the MTL thread that he's coming this Easter! :O If you want to come, you could make it around then and you'll get to meet the MTL crew on top of LK, live. You're welcome anytime, though. That'd just be a real hype moment to bring everyone to MTL and greet e'm Canadian style. :P

  22. Hmm... Since you're into tech, you could talk about the tech side of the community. Like, we need TVs, consoles, video recording equip, sound systems, whatever, and everyone's a luddite except for you. You can expand on that by getting technical. :D Since you mention an electronics store... Do you have an Access Electronics nearby? My brother worked at the local store for 2y, and could probably pull some strings because he was valued for his knowledge (he just started Uni as an electrical engineer). Might be worth a shot!

  23. Ah yeah, it's cool. I also got a bit of a BB overdose from Nemesis. Sucks not having money, but this summer should replenish the coffers, eh? Putting it up as volunteer work is good so long as you can spin it and show it takes different skills to make it happen. Focus less on the games, and more on the organizing stuff/having to work with people aspect. It IS decent exp. in that regard, actually. You just have to convince people of that. :P

  24. Haha, no pressure. Come when you can, work comes first. Not worth it if you have to antagonize people. Montreal is great, but not that great. :P

  25. Sweet, nice to hear. As for me, doing good. We just had our first major in MTL (Nemesis II), complete success. New semester started in Uni and I got loads of free time (only two days of classes!), but a brutal load of work since I'm getting into the upper finance classes. So you coming to MTL soon? You can only experience the really cold season 3 months a year! The rest is merely cold. :P
