Montreal: Le Thread Generale Pour Weeaboo Fighters
Sophisticat replied to BladeOfJustice7's topic in International
Man, plantain, I never did get around to making some. I suppose I should. It's ok, I'll stay if some are staying, but not if no one is. Thursday depends. I'll see what kind of turnout we can expect first. -

Vice, I take it you're East end? If you're a West Islander, I wouldn't mind picking you up... -

Vice, you online later in the week? LK hates the Haku matchup. I need to grind hard. -

Swell that would be, yup. I'm cool with that. earliest I could be there would be ~5pm probably. I'd be down for some games too, I'm feeling strangely hype for BB right about now. I will awaken the Beast! ---------- Yeah, we should also get Vice up in here sometime to grind that Litchi matchup. LK coming in wouldn't be cool if he demolished us right off the bat. -

Nini, you thinking what I'm thinking? We on the road to transcendence, here. :P Joking aside, I agree with you Airk. It's just that the MTL scene is at the point where we're heading into higher level play, so it's sort of a mini-crisis for us right now. We're just trying to find the way to achieve that higher level of play, and it's proving a bit frustrating. Btw, I agree with Nini in that I now sometime wonder just how some players get hit by stuff in vids. Maybe it's airmchair judgment since I'm not the one playing, but it's there. I suppose it's all a part of the process of leveling up. :] -

I knew I forgot something! Crap, I need that charger, it's my laptop's. Any HQ meet this week? I need it asap. I can hold out the usual Thursday and maybe longer. But the sooner, the better... Also, brace yourself for more salt because my Haku will keep improving. Ya might want to sign up for some Zen sessions, I hear it helps with sodium levels. :P And also, I sort of feel guilty for imposing on your relatives. We came in and they gave excellent hospitality and we didn't give much back beyond our presence. If we go to Ottawa again, we should add in a small something as a thank-you gift... -
LK's GAMEPLAY RELATED QUESTIONS ONLY question thread
Sophisticat replied to Lord Knight's topic in Archive
Okay, double post lol. This guy here is part of what I mean. We just had a tourney tonight with Grand Finals being him as Makoto vs. another with Rachel. Normally, you'd say "Rachel is dead, Makoto has 7k combos and Rachel can only do 3k". Yeah, no. Both players were really good at anticipating and blocking each other's stuff. Like, some of it was really mind-boggling "how the F did you block that shit?!" stuff. So... How do these guys get better? Nini, you elaborate. I'm outtie because I need my sleep and I'm rambling here. -_- -
LK's GAMEPLAY RELATED QUESTIONS ONLY question thread
Sophisticat replied to Lord Knight's topic in Archive
Okay, sure. How? I'm at the point where my opponent is aware of my options, and I'm aware of his. He knows my habits and I know his, and we're both aware of this... Etc., Etc. So... How do I get better, that is the question! Yeah, somewhat. 5b now hits crouchers and is also jump-cancelable. So you have the option of doing either a low or TK Tsubaki (or TK Hotaru if you want) after. It's good. Useful, too, but it's got its drawbacks since TK Tsubaki is vulnerable to poking or simply blocking. Not a true 50/50. Haku's only true 50/50 is fuzzy j.B. Low j.B can go into either 1) land -> low, or 2) instant dj.B -> Tsubaki. Takes a bit of conditioning to setup properly, and needs at least 3 stars to fool the opponent. Both are situational. ------- And with that, I'm out until LK decides to chime in with top-tier advice. -

No, when your offensive options are limited. Also, I meant "creative" as in "getting gimmicky". That's not good. Ragna players will probably commiserate here. -

Sophisticat replied to Lord Knight's topic in Archive
Please elaborate. Note: I'm aware of fuzzy j.B and 5b being jc-able... If that's what you meant. It's not turtling at all, it's simply being able to block everything any character throws at you. It becomes hard to mixup (for both players) because you have to improvise and get creative. This isn't a problem in a game like Guilty Gear because of its depth. BB, on the other hand, isn't that deep. -

Tager sucks, point. I've learned that you can pretty much faceroll/butt slap the controller and he can't do anything about it. 720/grabs/traps aren't even a threat anymore. It's a bit sad, in a way. No one should be treated like a sandbag. Anyway, LK, I'm in need of some general high-level mindgames/strats because the local guys I play can block all the Haku stuff I throw at them. Any tips? On that note, it's also one of the weaknesses of BB that I've noticed... Play enough, and you can block a ton of stuff. You'll start noticing that the game becomes a blocking fest. BB should give more threatening mixup options for every character. But that might just be me. -

Mein Gott, what a weekend! I'm a bit too tired for proper shoutouts and all that, so I'll just say it was awesome all-around. You guys are great, Pedro's relatives were more than excellent hosts, and Ottawa has some cool guys hanging around. The venue was also pretty neat and spacious, no complaints there. Congrats to Nini for winning two tourneys in a row. I guess it's time to bust out that top-tier Valk I've been neglecting to play. JF, one day, man... one day! But yeah, congrats to you too for being a great player and a cool dude. Let's do this again, it was a ton of fun. Next month?! I really appreciate the invitation, and we had a blast over there, but as far as doing this every month... I dunno lol. I can't speak for the others, but this was pretty heavy on me. It's certainly doable since it cost us ~25-30$ each, some of which we could get back in the form of tourney winnings, but still... I'll give it a thought once I've got in a good dose of sleep, lol. -

Okay guys, text me once you're heading out from Vendome so I know your eta. My cell is 514-918-7903. Pedro, you remember how to get there and where I parked last time close to the bus station when we came back from T11? Pick me up there, please! Google map directions from Vendome: Clicky. -

Yeah, you can pick me up at Fairview if it's not too much of a hassle (it's right by the highway anyway). Pedro, what time you think you'll be there if that's where you'll pick me up? I'm covered for the car, so don't worry about that. I also got everything I need, thanks. :] Freezer: Got microwaves at the venue? I might bring me some half-eaten pizza. :D -
Lol, the patch did the opposite for me. Netplay is now good, and it connects faster. Yay. On the other hand, this game is goddamn broke. It's still fun, but there's no way I could ever take it seriously. Damnit SRK, broke does not always equal fun! Look at GG, you have to spend resources to break your character. It's very balanced in that regard, and most certainly fun as hell. -_-;

I was thinking of leaving my car overnight in the parking lot, then heading over to HQ despite the possibility of suffocating to death. I still prefer that over using public transit, lol. Still, I live a minimum 30m+ away by car from HQ, so it's pretty out of your way... -

Whoa, sorry, that was drunk 2am me talking. :P Anyway, a stick is simply not something I want to invest in. I don't mind the hassle enough to buy one in any case. I decided plunking down 150$ for founder status had more value to me than getting a stick, so I consider that money well spent. I am mollified. Ah, alright, I'm coming 100% sure. So, about the pickup I talked about, I was thinking of the Fairview Mall like back in Aug. Would that be ok, or did you have something else in mind? This scenario is the best one for me, but I don't know about you... -

Dude, you get to use the Xbox pad, we have to do with the stiff Ps2 controller. I'm at 75% potential at most on that thing. And no way to practice either outside of the HQ. -_-; And Eb, I'm not geeky enough to buy a stick. I'm not about to plunk down precious investment monies just for a stick, yo. Well, whatever, I'm not into this tourney for the money, so it's cool I guess. -

Yeah, this is one of my concerns, too. Xbox/Ps3 divide ftl... Still, I might borrow a stick or something. I tried out Twiggy's on Tuesday for MvC3 and it worked like a charm, I was really surprised. I think stick would be no problem for me to learn at all, I probably already picked it up without knowing, lol. -

Yay for drunk 2am posting. Nini, you ain't drunk enough if you can still type straight. The sweet spot is right on the edge of the willies where the room starts turning, but you can still just barely hang on to it for great mis-typing justice! Yeah, I know that if I drop, this trip ain't happening... Anyone else want to fill the void? The more there are, the more hype it is! Wait, do you mean Kaeru is still going, but with his GF instead? Not sure lol, can't really read after those yummy White Russians lol. 1h30~2h max. Depends on traffic and road conditions. Note: big snowstorm tomorrow morning. Might not want to drive if road conditions are bad. We'll see how it turns out. -

Yeah, it's why old age occurs. Basically, cells stop having perfect regeneration once you hit 25ys of age. The subsequent build-up of genetic damage deteriorates the body and its ability to keep up with it... so you become old and all that. Technically, this means immortality is not a pipe dream. Some species of turtles and jellyfish are "immortal" because they have no such genetic decay. Stupid human body decided to go the route of genetic suicide instead, and it's now up to scientists to correct that. Hopefully in our lifetime, lol. Yeah, I've been keeping up with it on SRK, and I don't get why the turnout is so bad. I mean, SF had at least 150 dudes for Nemesis... Nooooooooo!! Kaeru!!! Damnit, being 4-5 guys to drive down was one reason why I was game... >_> ... AND it's an Xbox tourney... >_> Not sure if I'm still down... Come to Ottawa!! I'm about to drop out if someone else doesn't take Kaeru's place... -

Mais somme toute, ouais, I feel for you man. Ça fait chier quand ça arrive. Anyway, my stuff should be ok for the trip. I just have to arrange drop-off and pickup and all that and I'm set. I think you quoted the wrong guy, lol. I'm lol'ing hard @ Woolie. He's not going to live that one down for a good long while.
