[CT] Carl Clover Tactical Discussion/Questions/Help
Zoogstin replied to Alternate275's topic in Archive
Well you've played the game and I haven't. But I didnt see anyway Ragna could have gotten a negative penalty. I think the only reason he recieved that much damage was because of his low vitality. You make a good point though. Sometimes it would be better to go for a reset which can potentially do more damage. So yeah. He has a lot of options once any of his sandwich combos get started. -

All people who are currently playing Carl should be doing this as their basic BnB combo from now on if you aren't already doing it. Look at 0:17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFMLbcZtAuk&feature=channel_page -
Thanks for the tips. I've only played a good Anji once and his pokes were really beast.
-
Yeah Ken was a beast in Slash. I've only seen around 4 vids of him in AC

We don't go to the arcades. We just have gatherings in Raleigh. The only GG cabinet I can think of is in Concord. And its only GGXX. Post in the NC thread darnit.
-
Where in NC?

Do it sooner. Remember the dog acts independently of zappa. It can move while zappa is in the middle of his own moves.
-
Yep 6P can beat her 2j.HS AND her j.HS

Anybody noticed that in the Japanese version of AC, the computer can't block unblockable setups. while the american version, they can?

I'm not too convinced yet about that. Tager hitting Carl is one of the most horrific things to look at. His damage is mad beast especially when we're talking about Carl's defense. Not only that, Tager can take out Nirvana pretty quickly. But then again you got videos like the above. -
He didn't do a reverse sword swipe. Look again. Zappa actually turned around before doing the first sword swipe.

Yeah I agree with everything Magz said. Also: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=qCFGfw92ymc&feature=channel_page Look at :55. I'm assuming if Litichi throw breaks the grab she can still block the 8D. However if she actually is vulnerable during a supposed throw break animation then that sounds like a grimey unblockable setup. If this is true (I'm not saying it is) then the opponent will either a) keep on taking the throw and 8D damage or b) take the unconfimred unblockable 8D and go for a reset. This is all theory fighter since I don't have the game. But for the sake this game please prove me wrong. -

All I have to say is Carl vs Carl is pure entertainment. I can't think of a better matchup then that. -
I agree. I can definitely say that I-no hits like a tank. I've experienced it. And yeah unfortunately for her she can definitely be outpoked.

I forgot to mention his backdash. Don't know why since its so good. The only problem is his backdash is really fast. So I find myself getting Wild thrown anyways.

1. If you block VV I don't see how run up 2K into combo is a problem. Are you saying that you aren't able to reach him in time to punish or you just can't get a decent combo on him. Even if you Faultless defence the VV you should still be able to run up and punish him easily. I don't have much experience to against Millia. maybe someone else can help you. 2. There have been some weird times where the crappy position of the ghosts and sword have saved my life, but I think that's only when I was falling from a really high spot and the sword or ghosts were way over my head. But I don't think there's much benefit to them being 50ft behind you when the opponent is right in front of you. But the best way to prevent this scenario from screwing your over is mash p (since it combos into itself when you have the ghosts or sword) until the sword/ghosts are close enough to follow through. This is seriously probably your best approach. Its works very nicely. 3. Raoh takes patients. Especially against people who know what they're doing. Sorry to say but there will be times when running in on the opponent will be impossible. If you can't get in on them then all you can do is poke at a distance with his fireballs, fS, 5HS, and 6HS. And thats all you can do until you get a hit. And yes Raoh's mixup game is not impressive by any means. But because its Raoh people will mess up regardless. If you're on top of your opponent 2S 66 2S 66 2S is good because then you can throw in a 5D for a mixup. Another thing you can do is run up throw. That's about it. =/ You have to fish for pokes and react from there. If you can force your opponent to jump then you're in good business. =) 4. Jump is your best option. Practice 1 frame jumping as well. 1-frame jumping is jumping and then Fautless defencing on the first frame of your jump. Jumping has startup so FDing during this will cancel the startup and you'll jump immediately. Its easier to do if you super jump. You just have to predict when wild throw is coming pretty much. But just a heads ups: with the sword your uppercut 623HS and your 5D have throw invincible frames. Those are your 3 options.

Awesome things are looking up for Carl now as I expected. (He still may not end up being High tier though but who knows.) -

No it was definitely b. Nirvana hadn't even clapped her hands yet before Carl got hit. Jin definitely got KO'd by Nirvana's clap. Here's another video of of 8D not stopping when carl gets hit. Look at 6:18 http://d.hatena.ne.jp/video/niconico/sm5445353 I also noticed it for 623D as well. Check this vid out at 4:47 http://d.hatena.ne.jp/video/niconico/sm5445403 -

Just a few things I've noticed from watching videos 1. 8D for some reason will still follow through even if Carl gets hit. I saw it during a Carl vs Jin match on nico. Carl initiates a 8D and they both jump in the air. Carl gets counter hit by jin and while Jin got off a few hits the 8D interrupted him and KO'd jin. Jin didn't hit Carl till late after 8D was activated but still. I was kind of like o.O Gotta find the vid. 2. Also watching videos I noticed that Carl can control Nirvana the very frame he techs off the ground after being knocked down. You may have seen a nico video where the opponent knocked Carl down. The opponent was just standing there waiting for Carl to get up. The same moment Carl got up he initiated Nirvana's 623D (long nail special) catching the opponent completely off guard and KO him/her for the win. My point is, quickly attacking with Nirvana as soon as Carl gets up is probably the best wakeup option we've got assuming Nirvana is even close enough. Again I need to find the video. 3. I could definitely see some throw setups with Nirvana's command through. Basically it would just be pressure string into Nirvana grab, but since that could potentially cause the opponent to be grabbed while in block stun, which means they can throw break it, I have one question. Is the opponent invulnerable during their throw break animation? I ask this because if you put them in a throw setup they either have to take Nirvana's throw or deal with Carl attacking them (or atleast do a mixup) during or after their throw break animation. Thoughts? -

I was thinking the same thing. Sure you could just go and not use Nirvana for a bit and go solo but that's usually suicide. As Carl players we need to make sure our solo Carls' are on point if any of us plan to get good with him. -

Watch this vid. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5439295 The first Carl match near the end of the last round, Nirvana is actually healing before her gauge goes out. I thought the gauge stayed static. But if you don't use her for a bit she starts to heal herself. AWESOME!!!!! -

Yeah I was gonna mention that earlier when you compared her to Zappa. She's like the dog, but no where near as good. Pressure strings and mix-ups going to be Nirvana's only strong point. While the dog is good at pressure strings, mix-up, and defense. So its more like Lil Eddie if that makes you feel better.
