Middle Tennessee Needs Gaming! Monthly Versus Tourneys - Antioch, TN

There was a Famitsu interview in which Mori said everyone's themes and the SFX were getting reworks. He also said that he really liked Motor Head's new version, or something to that extent. -

Something I can see becoming prominent in UNIB is Chain Shift confirming. In case you guys don't already know what it is, "Chain Shift" is the mechanic in which you convert Grind (or GRD- that tug-of-war bar at the bottom that increases your offense/defense for each stock) into Exist (or EXS- the game's meter system). You can use it at any point after you get a GRD Vorpal (which you get for having more GRD than your opponent at 15-second intervals), and you get about 12 meter per stock. What you lose from this is GRD Vorpal bonus damage, which is apparently a 20% damage boost (not sure if they stack or not), and obviously your GRD stocks, which makes it easier for your opponent to get GRD Vorpal next. What you gain, however, is a crap ton of meter to use, a second or two to confirm what your opponent is doing, and/or what's essentially a Rapid Cancel on a blocked/whiffed move. Think X-Factor activation, except without the bullshit. I've seen characters activate Chain Shift, see that their opponent is using a move of some sort, then activate an invincible super as soon as they come out of the Super Flash (which seems to be completely safe). What I'm not sure of is if it works as a Rapid Cancel on hit (what I've read on it only makes mention of blocked/whiffed moves). That said, I don't think it'd be difficult to whiff a 5A or something during a combo just so you can activate it if it turns out it doesn't work with on hit moves- but that seems like way too easy of a workaround even if it does turn out to be the case. -

I'd also recommend looking up some common interview questions and preparing your answers ahead of time. It'll show that you're prepared on the interviewer's side, and it'll negate a lot of the anxiety you might have. I love polo shirts. They're casual enough for school and hanging out, but formal enough to go somewhere fancy/be interviewed. Speaking of which, I actually *did* wear one of my polo shirts to Sam Goody's when I got an interview there. I scored the job- but looking back, I kind of wish I hadn't, haha. -

Aw, come on guys. I don't play the main character/shoto in EVERY fighting game. Like King of Figh- Guilty Gea- Blazbl- Street Figh- Perso- Akats- Braw- ... Okay, I'll probably end up playing Hyde. I'm with Volpe- I'll happily import the game if it's PS3-only (it probably will be), not region locked, and without a (reasonable?) American release date. Considering at least a couple of us have 360 -> PS3 converters, I don't think it'd be a problem as far as control schemes are concerned. -

"Oh, silly Volpe. Clearly, Mitsuru can use her ice to freeze the air AROUND her sword. Such a sophisticated manner of doing battle, huehuehuehue." That would explain why her DP's hitbox is shaped like an ice cube. -

I played a guy called FluxWaveZ. He plays a convincing Shadow Labrys. I'd love to see a match between him and Uri, haha. And I'll probably have a little time after this tournament/babysitting, if you wanna get some games in then. -

It's fine, I kind of expected someone might bring that up. It's actually why I only referenced Tager instead of SF characters, since I've never seen a Tager do a standing 720 (it doesn't mean it's impossible). Anyway, the main difference between doing a standing 720 with Zangief/T. Hawk/Hakan and doing a standing super with Kanji is that the former is HARD. There's an undeniable execution barrier in doing a standing 720, and a standing... 214214. I mean, I guess you could say that "if it can be done, people will do it." That's probably true. However, it's pretty easy to estimate your opponent's skill and be able to tell if he/she can do a 214214C. A standing 720? Not so much. -

No, I kind of agree with Volpe. At least with characters like Tager, he has to buffer inputs so you can have an idea when the crazy damaging grabs are coming. With the way P4A simplifies the input system, he can do his meterless command grab with invincibility whenever the fuck he wants, and his super command grab which actually makes him travel FORWARDS whenever he has the bar for it (which he's guaranteed when he goes into Awakening- assuming his massive health bar and his opponent wailing on him doesn't do it for him in the meantime). He's much more Rock-Paper-Scissors than Tager ever was. -

When you have Counter Assaults like Liz's, that's probably the point. :P -

It seems a lot easier to "option select" mash x button during your opponent's blockstrings in P4A- especially since it's a lot harder to fudge a DP input that's two buttons. So if your opponent fucks up their pressure, it's easier to nail them with a 5A/DP/whatever. -

Just don't let it get to you. Everything's a learning experience. Like, in CT, I thought everyone was broken. "WTF TAGER'S GRAB JUST DID LIKE MY ENTIRE HEALTH BAR." "WTF THERE ARE SWORDS EVERYWHERE NU IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR." "WTF I HAVE TO WIGGLE OUT OF THIS ICE THAT'S SO CHEAP." "WTF TAOKAKA IS ALL OVER THE SCREEN I CAN'T CATCH HER." "WTF RACHEL JUST KEEPS BLOWING ME AWAY." "WTF LITCHI'S COMBOS LAST WAY TOO LONG." "WTF I WAS BLOCKING WHY SHOULD THAT CURSE ME." "WTF BANG JUST WENT SUPER SAIYAN." "WTF HAKUMEN CAN JUST COUNTER EVERYTHING I DO." "WTF NOEL'S D BUTTON IS COMBO MODE." "WTF THE CLAP." "WTF INFERNO DIVIDER." Those are all things I thought at one point, and all things I thought were BS. Did I feel like giving up? Sometimes. But I just kept playing, and the more I kept playing, the more I realized I had options and approaches to counter all those things. It's just part of the strive in getting better at games. If you can't not get frustrated, just let your frustration be your drive to get better. Though it's always better to look at these kinds of things with a cool head. -

I know how you feel, Star. We all feel the same way sometimes. The best thing you can do is just grin and bear with it until you do find out how to deal with the game's BS. The more you learn how to handle things you feel are bullshit, the less it'll frustrate you, and the less it'll feel like BS. And I've just been waiting to use that image for a while now. I don't remember if I saw Papstr use it first or not. Either way, I'm not trying to pick on ya or anything. Just noticed the opportunity and wanted to pick up the combo. Every day, I pray this game gets a leak like CS1 did. -

They rescheduled the tournament because a few people were bitching about it, and they remade the brackets because a few people were bitching about it. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they outright banned characters because a few people were bitching about it. Seriously, the way this tournament is being handled just... Bothers me. It's supposed to be taking place over the course of three days/twelve hours for some reason, but there's been no mention of how that's going to be handled or why it's even a three day thing in the first place. I don't think these guys know how difficult it is for some people to get three consecutive days off without any interruptions. -

If it's any consolation Volpe, I doubt you'll be missing much. There are TONS of people who have said they won't be able to play in the tournament since the reschedule, and there are always going to be those people who forget about it/don't say anything when they can't make it/stopped caring/etc. Factor that in with how unprofessional the mods are treating the tournament already, and you've got a recipe for disaster. -
