You said that mixups helped maintain pressure. that's not a Blazblue specific decleration. BB isn't the only game with mixups. Mixups I guess can be considered a form of pressure, but a character like venom is all about putting you in blockstun and then killing you when you try to escape. Litchi works alot like this too, most of her damage comes from people trying to get out of the corner, not from her mediocre mixup game (which is different than her corner pressure and oki game.)

If we're using the traditional fighting game term of "punish." Then no. Akuma isn't punishing the opponent for using an unsafe move and using the opening to do damage. He's just throwing air fireballs because half the cast cant' do anything but block. If you mean the more direct dictionary translation of punishment... it still doesn't fit really. Because you're not punishing anything. Akuma is acting with air fireballs, the opponent has to react with something. But most opponents have nothing to react with. so they end up just blocking because it's all they can do. Punish is more of a "I act, I did something unsafe. He reacted and punished my unsafe move."

Akuma is god tier in ST because he can spam air fireballs and theres nothing anybody can do about it. They just accept it. So no, it's not all about who punishes the best. Though that can make a really good character.

His new 6A, while losing anti-air properties, is pretty good for pressure. it's not amazing - but the fact that he does have a move that can give lead him into a favorable mixup opportunity for being offensive, is pretty good. If H-Man had a reliable, go-to anti-air everything like he did in CT, I think that'd be tipping the scales too far. He'd literally be almost impossible to approach.

Rather than focusing on who's broken and who's not in CS, I do feel that balance was done mostly correct save for the top and bottom tiers. So why is CS better balance wise, if the top are just as dominating as they were in CT? I feel that a lot of characters are on the right path in terms of design. Look at CS Hakumen. He's a good character. There's nothing terribly broken about him in CS. Look at his matchups. He goes even or has slight advantage with everyone, has slightly bad matchups with two of the three tops, and hardly dominates anyone. I feel that what they've done to Hakumen in CS was perfect and he wasn't overbuffed to absolute brokenness. There are a lot of characters that I feel are on the right path of development. I'll be the first to admit that I'm severely biased. But the game feels so much more complete than CT did. Maybe it's because Hakumen doesn't have bad things happen to him anymore. Maybe it's because I like the fact that I can hit Arakune in his slime now.

Yeah sure, as long as it's in moderation. Dwaine and Keyon are invited to hang out too.
