After a lot of grinding in this match-up, I finally feel I have a handle on it and it's even. There's a huge learning curve to get used to it so hopefully this advice will help. 1) If you do not have level 3 drill, do not rush him down ever. It took me a while to finally get used to this but even in the corner it is never worth it. Your mix-up is bad, none of your gatlings are true block strings, safe jump can be countered, you will eventually eat a super counter or CH 3C or whatever else and lose all of your advantage. 2) Corollary to the above; level 3 drill is always worth it. Yes, it sucks, but without level 3 drill you have no offensive presence whatsoever and get garbage damage off random hits. It makes a HUGE difference. Your footsies suddenly become really scary with 5D, random tags with jB turn into 4k, and most importantly he can't just counter you on reaction. He has to straight guess when you'll go for 5D and he's dead if that guess was wrong. 3) Until you have level 3 drill, always run away. You don't even have to press buttons at first, just jump and Zettou all over the place and stay out of the corner because he can not catch you. His ground mobility is awful unless he dumps meter into kishuu which you can hard call-out with 3C. Airdashing impatiently lets us tag him with anti-airs into a level 3 setup or 5k damage. His main tools to deal with this are jC (1300 damage up front but he can not combo from it without the corner), Hotaru (covers the area above his head he can't reach and is air unblockable, but requires meter and is also really hard to combo from without corner), and air throw (BREAK IT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD). Forcing him to approach you puts him at a significant disadvantage and greatly mitigates the threat of counters. You will get negative penalty every other match but don't panic, this style of play obviates many of his methods for getting damage.

I'll test out 6B reset after double gekiren this friday and see how much millage I can get out of it. It's definitely a much safer commitment than Gekiren. Unrelatedly, I have some updates to my personal match-up chart. Hopefully it will please Kiba this time. 6-4: BU, CA, TG, KA 5-5: AR, AZ, IZ, HA, MA, MU, NO, NU, PL, RG, RE, TE, TS 4-6: BA, HK, HZ, JI, LI, RC, VA 3-7: TK, KO Valkenhyn: It only makes sense. I have a much easier time with Valk than ever before, but it's a pretty drastic overstatement of Amane's options to say it's even. Hakumen: I'll update that match-up thread with my thoughts. I've put /a lot/ of effort into understanding it and I've figured out an optimal approach that makes it way more tolerable. Taokaka: Kind of dumb of me to not put her here. I 100% believe she's our worst (pre-koko) match-up.

I do the same thing but it's completely avoidable. Just don't emergency tech and delay tech so the fire passes right by you. There's a ton of unsafe start-up with SB Zio > Ragidyne and many characters punish that for free. Against people who don't know the match-up yeah it works and it's scary, but it really sucks how desperately Liz relies on the opponent not knowing the correct reactable answer out of everything.
-
lol I've totally forgotten how to play this character (corner zio). But if the crouch confirm with fear you're referring to ends with b bufu > jC then I wouldn't really call that "oki". Persona mixup is completely reactable in that game. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
-
I forgot about regular CH but crouching hit isn't threatening IMO. The damage is pretty tame and more importantly it doesn't inflict fear. You get, like, jC knockdown into non-existent oki. I don't think corner matters at all, you still need a CH (fear) or airborne hit to do anything anyway. my point was that the quoted dude said he hoped you were joking and I interpreted it as you not giving Liz enough credit, whereas I think you give her too much. I would amend it to 2B/jB/D Garu for the list of party time hits, everything else is shit.
-
yeah, you're right. getting hit by 5C actually isn't threatening at all unless it's on airborne.
-
holy fuck, they actually did destroy Liz in this version. What the hell were they thinking? No wonder no one plays her anymore.
-
The learning curve from Amane mostly comes from hit confirmation - choosing the right combo to do based on the starting hit and opponent's positioning - so playing on one controller or the other shouldn't make much of a difference. His execution is fairly easy for the most part.
-
I would argue that Liz absolutely needed the damage. P4U is a very high damage game, even moreso in this version. Getting rid of Garu loops sent Elizabeth's output straight to the bottom. Every strong character is capable of putting out damage comparable to original Liz. If they actually buffed Liz's tools, gave Garudyne meaningful SMP while returning its ability to actually combo AT ALL... I would definitely be content with that. Basically she needs both competitive tools and competitive damage, right now she has neither.

Jirou vs Ruiji (Terumi), Zekuso (Azrael), Mitsurugi (Hazama) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6Uve7swJxM&t=23m10s

I'm really late to the party but if those are the only patch notes then I'm 100% sure Liz will still be bottom tier, even with D garu loops. They just gave something back that never should've been taking away (like Labrys starting with green axe). Not to say that there's no chance of Liz getting better, Amane got tons of unlisted buffs that are ridiculously gross so it could happen here too. I just won't be getting my hopes up.

^basically everything Hakumen has from the ground is air unblockable, including his 5A. Hotaru is also air unblockable. Always barrier block if you're jumping in. If Hakumen does not have meter for Yukikaze, his only wake-up option is Kishuu so you can option select 2B or throw into jC an he has to respect it. Being able to run her wake-up game helps greatly in this match-up because he has the advantage in most other respects. He can just 2D through most of her blockstrings. His 3C outranges her ground pokes and goes into huge damage. Her movement sucks so it's easy to get clipped by random 5C's, which also goes into huge damage. Hakumen's movement isn't great either though so try to find opportunities to Afterburner safely if he likes to turtle with footsies. Otherwise just adapt to the fact that he has counters and wants to disrespect your pressure. It's a bad match-up for Bullet, but it's /definitely/ winnable.
-
negative penalty resistance so I don't get it after 2 seconds of running away like Amane has to, 5C less recovery and Hariken vs. other zoners. Didn't mean specifically against valk, that will be easier because he has to go human form more often. I know *logically* it's not an even match-up pre-patch but I really just don't have any fear of valk in this game. I've never once felt like I lost because it's an uphill battle, I always feel outplayed.
-
hakumen can't cut them anymore, he has to kishuu. Hariken has been confirmed projectile invincible in a recent video so it baits bursts :3
-
the main reason I pointed out his lack of drill escapes is because of the crush trigger setup. Valk has to get in the air a lot since he can't stay human form and ground wolf gets tagged by jB too easily. In which case, a correct read in neutral (6A, CH jB, 5C) from Amane can very likely confirm into his crush trigger setup and then he'll tear Valk apart. As you say, Amane doesn't win in neutral alone so I think it's a huge component of the match-up. I've been revamping my playstyle in general since Final Round to rely a lot more on setting up inescapable 6D's. Amane's neutral just doesn't cut it until he gets buffed in the patch.
-
you and LK won't pick him with me </3 but really, he's one of the only top tiers I feel Amane goes even with in neutral. Valk mixup is insane and melts through Amane, but Valk's defense is also really bad and most 6D setups work on him so Amane can melt him really fast too. Valk is at a slight advantage overall, but IMO not enough to put at 6-4 and I didn't want to nitpick decimals. Every character I put at 6-4 advantage I feel cleanly beats Amane in neutral - especially in the air - which forces him to rely on his underwhelming ground footsies and rushdown.

hey guys I'm bored so lets talk about amane match-up numbers, I want to know what y'all think! 6-4: BU, CA, TG, KA 5-5: AR, AZ, IZ, MA, MU, NO, NU, PL, RG, RE, TE, TS, VA 4-6: BA, HK, HZ, JI, LI, RC, TK 3-7: KO I'm still pretty unsure about these match-ups - Kagura: debating between 5-5 and 6-4. Kagura sucks and our runaway is great but his DP is really fucking annoying, 5C only hits once on standing and he tends to hit really hard Jin: a couple of y'all know I've been despairing a lot about him recently. I've been playing long sets and can't do shit against our local player. The only time I feel like I'm allowed to play is full screen with C zoning, and even then his dash low profiles 5C. jC shuts down our air footsies, his ground footsies are better, his pressure is GODLIKE against us, Amane is literally the only character that can't OS block 623C because A attacks have so much recovery and we can't even do TK j2B safe jump once he has 50 meter. I'm debating dropping him down to 7-3.
-
Short version: (tiger knee j2B > 66 ) * N, j2B is really weird Long version: j2B technically has landing recovery, but the recovery ends immediately if you cancel into anything - an attack, a dash, even block (safe jumps) - except for jumping. So you do j2B low enough to the ground that you land, then immediately dash cancel and do another j2B. Off of a raw j2B hit, you can combo about 13 of them.
-
Um okay so if anyone wants to help me finish the character specific answers part of this THAT'D BE GREAT ._. I ran out of patience and my PS3 died and I don't have a clue how characters like Terumi/Izayoi work.
-
I just hold back and then 6D. The 6D should connect unless they're practically on top of you. I like the idea of running up and doing a j2B cross-up, that way if they get hit by the drill you can easily hit confirm. My favorite mix-up is B Zettou > IAD back j2B for a fake cross-up. Works like a charm.
-
if you're having trouble with shitty rushdown characters - Instant Block Barrier. The pushback is extremely good and completely fucks characters like Makoto and Tsubaki.

If I was a game designer for some competitive game, I wouldn't base my balance decisions on literally a single player. But that's just me. -
I set the training dummy to not E.tech and roll, they can't escape. run > 6D is a very tight link but it absolutely can combo.
-
omg his last round against Rachel. He read a lobelia and hit him with CH 5C, but didn't do Overdrive 6D for 7k. I want to see it in a match, damnit!
