During a common v-13 string, 5DD > 4D etc, you can get a free Carnage Scissor after the 2nd D if you react to the 4D (the overhead one). Just be sure you're reacting and not guessing or it could get ugly.

EDIT: Oh lol, I can't read. Someone already said this haha.

ok so at the 2nd D when nu does her 4DD i can carnage scissor to go past it, is that what you're trying to say? do i have to IB the 1st 4D to do this or normal block is enough?

anything else i can do besides carnage scissor? i mean it does pretty crap damage and doesn't exactly drain alot of hp either for 50%

You don't have to IB it to carnage scissor.

If you want to do something other than that, you may have to IB it cuz i've tried dashing, IAD, and HF on a regular block and the sword still gets you.

To be honest, the 50% for damage + getting close to v-13 is well worth it in my opinion

I meant, and as jiyuna posted earlier, you can Carnage Scissor through the first 4D. Use Carnage Scissors invulnerable frames to avoid it entirely and score a CH on v-13's face. So if v-13 is doing a common string I see them do (5DD > 4DD > 236D), CS through the 4D after the 5DD.

Inferno Divider or Blood Kain dodge it too, but obviously that's not a good idea. I checked if you could do Blood Kain through the 4D > Carnage Scissor but she can block in time.

And CS doesn't really do crappy damage, if you combo after it does over half life on v-13. If you can react to her 4D I don't think there's a reason not to do it. I haven't actually used this on v-13 in a real match yet, so I don't know how they like to handle it.

Oh god, I can get all the way to her on Hell arcade, but she always rapes my ass. Need to practice more combos.. :/

This is a fight that really scares me. I have fought some V-13 using Ragna and even if they are not great V-13 players is always a complicated match for me. Ragna's lack of defense and his low arsenal for long reach leaves little room for errors so dominating some easy but damaging combos are my best option. If I can reach V-13 two times, then is enought to leave her dying and make the player more suceptible to commit mistakes that I can exploit to finish the fight, usually with some Hell Fangs. Reaching V-13 can be tricky, I still don't have a standard method so for me it depends on the style of the player how I'll try to get close. Of course I'm talking of casual V-13, I still don't have the "chance" to fight a pro V-13

I fought a decent V-13 for the first time tonight. All I can say is that the fight has to be played very cautiously, and very patiently. You're not going to get many opportunities to hit her clean, so maximize those chances when you can (geez, doesn't this sound like Carl? Just without the loop...). Do not blindly rush into her, you will die. Learn to tech her throws, or she will score free 40-50% every time. Her pokes beat yours (generally) unless you are in her face. You can not IAD + punish after blocked 5DD, 4DD, Wheel string, you will die (it looks like you can, and it's tempting, but you can't). This is probably my least favorite match-up for Ragna.

This is more venting than anything, but still on the subject of Matchups with v-13. So I finally get home from work and after waiting for my brother to finish his Fight Night Round 4 training for that GameStop tourney, I got my nightly dose of BB. A couple Nu's here and there, lost two matches. I told myself this time I will definitely win against the next Nu I see! And low and behold, next Ranked Match I come upon, Nu! So we get the party started and I evade blades left and right, IB, barrier, and air dashing my way to get to her. Some BnB's here and there, a nice counter hit or two and I win the first rebel! Rebel two starts and the same deal, dodging as best as I can. I get her in the corner and 5B, 5C connects into Hell's--- Connection Lost (or something along those lines). Ugh, I finally get a chance to win against one Nu and its a disconnect. Now I have an incomplete game and a sore taste in my mouth, but it's probably just the Green Tea. :sweatdrop:

I fucking hate Nu. I could write a 22 track progressive death metal concept album on how much I dislike her and being matched up against her. Im just gonna keep playing her on hell mode till I get a good understanding of her cheap ass tricks. If you look at the Nu threads most of them say "run away. lol. keep pressing X and smile and think about how nice kittens are. lolz" >:-( SHIIII- NEEH!!! her theme song rocks though :)

So, there's very little specific info here on how to handle V-13... I didn't confirm this, but I believe it's possible. Anyway, normally V-13 will do 5DD, 4DD, wheel at mid-screen (it's the ones who mix it up once they realize you can block that you should be worried about). I never tried IB'ing the wheel and seeing if you can punish her, but normally, you can't do anything after she does this. The normal reaction after this block string (assuming you blocked it) is to jump towards her, and her normal reaction is a 6D to your face. As long as she does 6D after this string, I'm pretty sure you can punish her with a run up 5B or C. Eventually, they're going to stop doing 6C if you don't jump or punish them enough, but what that will do is open up the airways so you can close the gap between you two. The "normal" mix-up after they realize you can block overheads is something like 5DD into wheel, or 5DD into jump 2D? (the one that angles downward). If you anticipate the wheel, I'm pretty sure you can IAD over it and punish her, although this is kind of risky if you guess wrong. I don't know what you can do if she does the jumping angled D, but because it comes angled, you might be able to hit her with an air GH. I've never seen another V-13 do it, but Goryu during his SBO qualifiers liked to follow up with a jumping B? (the kick) into block string, into back dash. As long as you anticipate it, you should be able to DP it or 6A it, I don't see a reason why you can't, again though, you guess wrong and it isn't in your favor. If they start cancelling into dashes, they're only going to do 1 of 3 things: -Run away. -Hit you with C, probably 2C. -Throw you. If it's during a block string and they aren't in the corner (with you advancing), you can safely ignore the first option. You should anticipate the C, but always be ready for the throw. V-13 does not like being in Ragna's face, the only reason why she'll do that is to throw you, so you should minimize those 50% combos by teching as many of those throws as you can. Against a competent V-13, V-13 will only lose if she is forced to do something risky (or she instigates it on her own...I don't know why she would do that though if she didn't have to) and you punish, or she whiffs and you punish. I've never seen a V-13 lose that effectively controlled space and didn't whiff. I really don't like this match-up, because even a weak V-13 player can still be annoying for Ragna.

Seifer has a point, even a weak V-13 player is annoying for a Ragna. on PSN I seem to run into a lot of V-13 and Haku0men(Ragna is my main btw.) Sword Summoner spam is something that I've gotten accustomed to. Noobish V-13's you should just start off on the defensive and block until you see an opening, then insta dash and pressure all the way. TK Gauntlet Hades is perfect for her 5D, and especially when they like to back dash, which can be annoying, I would recommend Hell's fang but an experienced V-13 would expect that, especially if you're going for pressure, which is great against a V-13, but Swprd Summoner will get in the way. In all honesty I don't find myself using Barrier block unless I need to, and with V-13 I really do, and it works. Mostly because Ragna has really low HP and conserving it against V-13 is a must. Ragna's DD's are great but don't really help, especially Carnage scissors, it has invincibility during activation but the dash phase leaves you wide open for her Sickle Storm and her Spike Chaser, and especially her 5D and 6D. Blood Kain helps because it inscreases the range of his drive attacks and makes it easier to regain that health that's dropping, although it's risky, it's best to combo into a Blood kain and do a Jump D and 6D, even though they might block with Blood kain you're keeping pressure and slowly regaining control. Hope that helps, it helps me out.

This may seem over simplistic... but what I do is play a 50/50 guessing game. Im not sure how a pro Nu would play. But most decent nu i run across on neutral will either throw sword or up sword. Get into a neutral place 1. If its a 5D just IAD in and fuck her up as much as you can. Try to bait super/burst 2. If its a 6D? 214A for a counter hit. of course if you guess wrong on any of this you're fucked. But I think its better to try to get in then sit back trying to jump / block your way in. :toot:

so whats the best way to approach? going in from air has the risk of 6d, not to mention 2c rapes our j.c easily unless you block it (not sure if you can..) if you go in from the ground you'll have to instant block the wheel then go in for hf counter hit, but even that doesn't work sometimes since they just seem to back dash and make it whiff..

Yesterday i had this problem with this Nu nub he keeped spamming 5D into 6D "not sure" then dash and cross me up it was so annoying . he didn't stand a chance thanks to Carrange.Sis but i still need to know what to do with those stupid dashes

Posted

What I do now is just guard and wait for the Nu player to make a mistake. If he dashes up, I just keep my eyes open for the throw to break. It gets difficult when you're in 5D range and the Nu player starts mixing in high/low when they have meter. Fullscreen is actually an okay place to be, since 4D is the only sword that can reach you and you can react to it (so just guard low in case of a reversed Sickle Storm, react to the 4D by blocking or dashing forward). The match requires patience, but after playing against a few decent Nus online and locally, I don't feel so bad about the matchup. It can even be fun if you get in a few early hits and then just hang out on the other side where most of her moves can't reach you; some of the players will literally just sit there and wonder why their 5D can't hit you. Wish I could play a Nu of Goryus' caliber to see what the matchup is supposed to feel like.

Trust me on this match-up. Ragna > V13 as long as you can stay close to her, at the beginning of the match is probably the best time to start putting V13's on edge. At the beginning of the match, you're going to have to either Opt for a rush, or a instant block to a super jump and then air dash (No instant air dash cause you want the height). If she gets away from you jump a lot to try and bait her to hit you out the air just dash in at her. Use a lot of rush down but try to avoid the 5D> Dash cancel thing, and if you have 50% heat, rapid cancel and either overhead (If they're crouching) or if you think you won't land it, grab, prepare for the grab break if it comes, and finish your combo (Or follow up if it lands). Try to keep her in the corner.

i just fought some V13, and i must say its not all bad, this was a mind game, i would jump alot so they would abuse the AA D, then at one point i rush that bitch and make 5B her new pimp..i cant wait to fight more V13's the first one i fought was a lvl 49, and i mashed that bitch 3 times in a row..i got records to prove it. enough bragging, only thing i do to solve bullshit is 2 steps and 5B at the beginning, if she counters me on the start i find a way to get in, i could run in, and jump air block, or i stick the hits, recover fast, and ID the whore, i wanna knock her down and 2A this bitch, so her recovery wont stick. then i combo her and let her know i'm coming, and i'm coming all over her! i'd relentlessly knock her down or lock her in strings, never giving release, even if i have to 5D drive her shit, once you gain momentum let her know her place: beneath ragna on the ground begging for mercy, begging for a release from the pressure, and if she thinks she can start some new shit, i burst her in a wall and continue the asshammer. as a ragna i make sure you don't breathe, you don't run, and your always in a corner panicking like a small child realizing they are gonna get it. my rambling don't make sense, sorry i'm excited about my first online experience, im like a small child in a candy store.

Anyone wanna play a Nu that will fuck ya up? Play Arcadefire on XBL. He'll show you how the match up is supposed to feel. Constant Backdashin. Natural use of anti airs. Making you react to the screen instead of just blockin' high and waitin for the wheel. Keep your fingers on the Grab to tech and be ready for those over heads :3 And good luck. :P

You should give up if you think Arcadefire is anywhere close to a good v13.

you can Carnage Scissor through the first 4D. Use Carnage Scissors invulnerable frames to avoid it entirely and score a CH on v-13's face. So if v-13 is doing a common string I see them do (5DD > 4DD > 236D), CS through the 4D after the 5DD.

This is great until the v-13 command dashes after the first 4D.

I Carnage Scissored after that 4D in tournament. It was supposed to be my ace-in-the-hole and it would've gotten me the win in the set. I would've roared my triumph at being so clever that I had read and remembered this. Waited for that 4DD, and immediately Carnage Scissored.

The v-13 player command dashed, which completely removed her from the screen and placed her behind me, while I slid forward. Got poked with a full-screen sword and died.

*sigh...* Times like these I hate that characters have moves like that. /vent. Sorry if it's been mentioned, but it bears repeating if this stuff happens.

Uhh. The idea is to do CS before the back D even touches you. You HAVE to make sure that you're seeing the 4D come out. Gotta do it on reaction, not anticipation. It's very doable. Nu players will start to wise up after you hit them with it (sometimes they won't cause they play mindless top tier). Also, is it possible to follow up with a CH CS? I think I've done it once, but the guy might of not teched.

Posted

Oh.

Well still. The case I was making is that I hate her command dash.

it makes punishing her after a 5D combo or escaping punishment an illusion.

Just wanted to say that here Her C normals are god like also some time there is a lag in her burst thats why i always fail in blocking it

Posted

It's actually universal. If you have less than 50% barrier or something, the start-up frames of the burst take longer. More guard-frames=lol counter burst, since not everyone knows this and thus don't anticipate it, apparently. (I should know, I'm guilty of attacking people who were in the process of Burst with less than 50% barrier. :v:) Blocking wouldn't have helped unless it was an IB or Barrier, or hell, Instant Barrier Block, since Burst on normal blocking opponent=lolz instant guard crush out of nowhere lolz
