ZONG_one Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 wait so you don't combine the allecan and volante inputs ala 4214? No, at least I've never gotten it to work that way. j.2C > 214C21]D[ > 4/5C (whichever is easier), is how I've been getting it.
ZONG_one Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Is your 5C whiffing, or is it just the motions? I'm still having trouble with it, but I am making progress, which is a good sign. It's probably just a muscle memory/keep practicing thing. I've been trying to learn consistantly for two days. Most character move stuff that's tricky only takes me a few hours. I think it's one of those things you have to figure out on your own, timing and motion wise.
Zoogstin Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 5C is not the issue its volante. I can't get it out fast enough to save my life. Its either that or the opponent is too high I'm not sure which. I can't tell. I'll get once in a blue moon but the opponent always techs before volante hits.
ZONG_one Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 You're allecan is too high. Get it as low as possible. As for volante input, I know, it's tricky. D:
Zoogstin Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Yeah I'm pretty sure height is a key factor. Its just that I'm getting the 5C to hit pretty often but not the Volante. I just feel that there should a law that states that if you allecan low enough for the 5C to hit then the volante should as well. -___-
Roldy Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 As for when Volante comes out, I usually hit 4C (since Carl has no 4C, 5C comes out) and then very quickly do 21]D[. Nirvana should be starting her Volante animation right before 5C hits. This works all the time for me as long as the opponent isn't too high. I'm not too sure if my method is correct though. I just watched that Carl combo vid and watched when Nirvana started moving, and timed my stuff accordingly. Although I still haven't been able to get the Allecan > Volante stuff yet. As for 4D stuff, I do J.2C > 214C]D[ (simultaneously press C and release D) > J.B. I find that if you insert a 5C in there, the opponent goes too high for 4D.
Akiro Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I know this is extremely basic, but just a tip for others who might have a problem transitioning to CS or just the 2D loop in general, but it helped me ALOT. In CT, you could kinda get away with not holding down the D button before doing nirvana moves. Most combos weren't extremely strict as to where the activation animation would totally destroy some of the combos, but in CS this isn't the case, it's extremely easier to do the 2D loop and Clap combos if you keep the D button held down during your combos. If you're having trouble with the volante air juggle too, you could try making this small adjustment. Idk, Im still a noob to CS Carl.
Code-Nana Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 What are Carl's options with a downed opponent? In CT, I used to be able to use 5C -> Jb -> into Allegretto. But in CS, 5C will always miss a downed opponent.
Xithmos Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 5C hits bigger characters (Bang, Tager, Rachel, Ragna, etc). Also I saw this really hype (well not realy) combo off of an air grab: air throw > 22D > 5C > Volante > A vivace > combo http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=QjKE_Htkv2M&playnext=1&videos=6MzEAa8ZcWU&feature=sub (start at 2:04)

You did a much better job of explaining the Volante input. Thanks for that. All I could say was j.2C 214C21D, same thing.. but harder to look at. For volante combo > 4D combo, there is a 5C in there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VW3Z4LfbiZw#t=3m15s
Mascarpone Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 While the other stuff is being tricky, i'm surprised how hard a time i'm having with 66> j.214C.. in theory it shouldn't be hard but the timing must be absolutely fierce o_O
ZONG_one Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Just the hop cancel allegretto? It's kinda tough, I guess. Do it as fast as possible. If not, you just canceled the landing recovery of your forward dash, which isn't all bad, I guess.
Atreides Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Thinking of picking up Carl for CS. All those resets looks fun. I'm trying some of the Carl challenge mode combo, and I'm having trouble doing allecan(not sure if I got the right term, j2c 214c) into 5b. The problem is sometimes the 214c comes out, and I'm not sure what's causing it. Maybe it's because I'm pressing 5b too early or where I hit my j2c, but I can't seem to recreate it outside of the combo. The combo is jC 5b 5c 6d j2C 214c 5b 5c ....
Roldy Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Yup, J.2C > 214C is the Allecan. If 214C is coming out, you're either too high or you inputted 214C too slowly. Are you bouncing up? Or do you drop a bit and then do Allegretto? Try being a bit closer to the ground before doing J.2C.
Kyle Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Volante disappears during throw breaks PERIOD. =( Also, while aving teh training menu to always throw break, I can't get 8]D[ to come out... I saw in vids where an early release get be set-up to punish throw breaks,,, obviously, a late break would be the correct action for the opponent. Also, the upwards trajectory on throw break/nirvana activation, actuallly has nothing to do with nirvana... just Carl's regular ass animation. I've got badass Combos for ya! Carl+Walking robot is AWWWWESOME
Gray Dream Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Hey I'm learning Carl I'm first learning how to setup C-O-N: 2A 2B 3C 22D IAD ale-can > etc When I get to 3C do I press 2D at the same time? And do I hold D when I start the combo? edit: nvm I figured it out by buffering... 3C~2D edit: nvm nirvana still teleports to the wrong spot edit: this is hard Also what are some "okay" semi-easy beginner combos, I'm going to rely on resets untill I learn the 5k combos
DopeSauce Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 hey guys i just picked up bbcs and i decided i wanted to learn and main carl with your guys opinion how difficult do you guys think it will be for me to get decent enough to be competitive?? and yeah im pretty new to fighters in general
Zoogstin Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Carl's hard simply put. He takes a lot of effort. There's a reason why he's the least played character in the game. But ironically he's one of the best characters in the game and he's very rewarding. You'll see much return from the amount of invested time you put in him. It doesn't matter if you're new to fighters. You can learn how to play fighting games while learning how to play Carl. I just gotta be honest.
Marionette Pwii Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 wellz think of something Kyle D: I haven't signed in here for WEEKS I am lost :V ok a few things I need help with 1.I hate Ragna and his repeats after inferno divider combo.you know 623C three times in a row then after getting thrown, this guy can run up to you after you tech then repeat another one of those obnoxious combos.I have no clue what to do there besides do 2a 5a 5b 2b 5c but crap this guy can break me out of it.mind backing me up? 2.Bang..... he's annoying... thats all I dunno if I have much more to ask.I have to play online a bit more than goof off .-.

It just takes a ton of effort to build up one's basic knowledge of fighters on top of wrapping your mind around his weird playstyle. also, holy crap Carl's grab combos do insane damage. I've got volante combos down pat thanks to yall's advice and hitting 5k off a throw is easy now :D
DopeSauce Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 well i started playing with carl and sometimes i have problems inputing actions probably cause im using a D-pad and i was looking into getting an arcade stick anyways but i only have about 50$ is there a good stick i can buy for about that price that i can get in stores that is good right out of the box?? and that i wont have to mod for at least a few months???
Xithmos Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I really gotta break my CT habits. At Otakon I finally got some practice in. It took me a while to do 5B>2B>6B. 2D loops were easier than I thought. My only problem is doing Carl's corner combo (IAD allegretto>8D). What's the input for it? Just simply IAD allegretto>8D? Also I tried doing dash allegretto too. I kept getting the dash cancel (although the dash cancel is handy for grabs :3). How do I do this?

As for the dash allegretto. DO IT FASTER!!! I for the life of me cannot figure out a consistent way to do Carl's juggle finisher ie. j.2C-allegretto into 8D. I've come up with so many different possibilities and the best options that I got either cause 8D to come out to soon or too late. What are your guy's inputs?
