Killerwatt Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 The FightStick Tournament is a better buy. And guys look at this I didn't know amazon stock it: http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Real-Arcade-Fighting-Stick-3/dp/B001GDQRZM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1231724608&sr=8-1 Cheaper than play-asias, and you'll save loads on shipping. I can't look at the link atm, but can someone let me know if this is PS2 compatible?
thegame4ever Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I can't look at the link atm, but can someone let me know if this is PS2 compatible? Naw it's PS3 only.
bucklemyshoe Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 This is sick (well if you're a shmup fan like me) http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-a120-71-dd-77-5-49-en-15-death+smiles-84-j-70-38wc.html definitely have to mod at the buttons to match better though. sicker than this http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-a120-71-br-77-1-49-en-15-gorgeous-84-j-70-2uev.html and im guessing JUST A LITTLE bit more affordable.
WinButton Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 That Byrdo makes some awesome looking sticks. Once I get that stimulus money I will have him make me one. Now I just have to choose between Cervantes or Ivan Ooze........
thegame4ever Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Damn that shooting game + stick costs an arm and a leg.
WinButton Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Meh, I just checked and the Byrdo's sticks are 200-700 dollars. I am better off just going with the SF aniversary stick. I am not sure on the official guilty gear one because it doesn't have a six button layout and I think if I get one it should suit all my gaming needs.
bucklemyshoe Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 ^^^how about this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120333296354 EDIT: sorry that auction has ended but they're not that hard to track down.
ShadowDioK Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 is any1 selling a nice second hand stick (preferabbly with sanwa parts) in the local manchester area im willing to pay upto £80 if its decent i was thinking of ordering one off play-asia but im no good at soldering and would probally take a few attempts at replacing parts xD
amnv Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I made this when I was bored, only the case is original (VSHG). PS2 pcb, sanwa OBSF-30 buttons and seimitsu LS32-01 stick. I don´t have a decent camera, sorry about that. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e372/Amnv/DSC00033.jpg Edit: Oh right, I am out of red buttons, so therefore they are kind of pink....yeah:v:
bucklemyshoe Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 ^^^NICE!!! I was wondering when some custom BlazBlue sticks would show up. I want me a Valentine stick.

EdgeKun Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Alright DustLoopers, as a (general) lurker and occasional poster, I'm coming out of the shadows here because I need your thoughts and ideas on a project. (Posting in here since it seems a bit more fitting than making a new thread) First off, I recently purchased one of these (for 360) : So far, she's been wonderful. I've played a bit of SSF2THDR and Samurai Showdown 2 on 360, while practicing my general playing and motions on Melty Blood (Act Cadenza Ver B) and GGXX#R for PC. I feel like i'm learning the motions, and that all is well except for one key part. These are all fun fighting games, but I'd definitely perfer to make use of this stick in the current GGXX scene, at least until Blazblue comes out. ;P I was talking to Hellsap about this topic, and as far as he knows there's no converter for using this (or a similar USB stick) on PS2. That said, I got to thinking about possible solutions. The main one that comes to mind, would be more than a bit of a mod. My idea would be to split the cable coming from the joystick (that plugs into the console) and pretty much splice in a cable that would connect to the PS2. Button signals would be sent to corresponding pins on the PS2 controller port, and long story short I'd be adding another port to the cable. If i wanted to be extra fancy, maybe add in a switch to select what system i'm playing for at any given moment. (360/PC or PS2) To help elaborate on my idea, I've made a crappy paint pic here. MARVEL AT MY PAINT SKILLS. Standard trip-cord as seen on all wired 360 controllers. My ideas pretty much would go into modifying the end of the dongle, as to prevent butchering the cord on the stick itself. (I could buy a replacement end if things went bad) In theory then, the stick could be powered via the PS2 controller port, or even just plugging in a USB end for power alone. The single biggest problem I've had in thinking of all this, was how the 360 controller signal is sent. The more I look at the plug (and i guess now thinking about it being USB) the more I'm thinking that the controller input is sent as actual data and interpreted, rather than PS2 (and older) controllers just interpreting button presses by different pins having signals. In any case, I just wanted to put my thoughts out there. I love this stick a lot, and would really enjoy being able to use it with PS2 as opposed to buying an entirely new stick for said activities. -.- Whether you guys can offer some insight or even just shoot me down and give reasons why, it'd be appreciated. Thanks in advance DustLoop!
Ikagi-chan Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 EdgeKun, I find it awesome that you're trying to be ambitious about this project. It's awesome to see fellow stick users trying to do sweet ass modifications to their retail or custom sticks. Sorry though, I'm going to have to shoot some of your ideas down. Also, I know not many people like SRK forums, but their Tech Talk board is RIDICULOUSLY helpful for anything regarding arcade sticks. Check us out, it's free to lurk, free to join. First off, you've got a sorta misconception about how the PS2 transmits data to the console. You're under the impression that it directly sends button and directional inputs to the console pin-to-pin signals. This isn't the case however, since you can't really transmit data such as the two analog sticks or pressure sensitivity on a 1 or 0 digital based signal like on a pin-to-pin transmission. Besides, it wouldn't work anyway with the PS2's plug only having 9 pins and for an arcade stick at least, you'll need 4 for directions, at least 6 for buttons, 2 for Start/Select, and one for the PCB's ground which adds up to 13 pins minimum. What the PS2 does is it transmits data through button and analog stick signals interpreted by an IC chip installed on the actual controller of which the packaged and translated signal is sent to the PS2 through the 9 pins. This shoots down 1 of your ideas of using the breakaway cable from the 360 portion of your FightStick Standard Edition for a PS2 breakaway cable since the breakaway portion is an extension of a USB cable, meaning it only has room for 5 wires or pins and 4 of the PS2's pins won't be active which can TOTALLY screw you over. What you're gonna have to do is do a dual-console PCB modification to your stick's PCB. In order for this to work, both of your PCBs need to have a common ground, meaning you're gonna need to find yourself either a DualShock 1 or those old PS1 Digital Pads (the ones without analog sticks). The Xbox 360 PCB is already taken care of since the Mad Catz provided PCB inside the FightStick is already a common ground PCB. Basically, this means that you'll need to do a bit of dremeling or drilling to get another cord to come out of the stick for PS2 usage. Dual-console arcade sticks don't need a switch or anything to swap between consoles. You just need to plug into the console you want to play on. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT PLUG THEM BOTH IN AT THE SAME TIME. YOU'LL SHORT OUT YOUR PCBS. If needed, I can elaborate on anything you want to know, though chances are, some further educated Dustloop member will shoot me down and educate you better than I did.
Zazz Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 well edge i got myself one of those SE SF4 sticks as well, but i'm currently planning on putting in a new stick and buttons on it there are more than a few horror stories over at SRK about it need to order out for the parts first

First off, I can't thank you enough for the extremely detailed answer. This is exactly the sort of thing I was posting for in hopes of finding. =D That said, if i'm understanding correctly, I'm going to prety much be wiring a second cord up to the board (scrounged from a PS1 controller? Would a PS2 extension cord work for that matter then?) , and calling it good from there? (To simplify quite a bit anyway) In any case, I'll probably go register and post at Shoryuken if you say they have quite the tech section. For that matter, i'll probably also look since Zazz was saying there are more than a few posts over there about the SF4 fight stick. Thanks again for the help man, it's greatly appreciated. Probably see you over on SRK
Ikagi-chan Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 No problem. You'll see me there with the same username if you're curious. Also, it's a bit more complicated than just wiring up a second cord. You'll need the actual PCB of the controller (the "guts" so to speak) to be housed inside the FightStick Standard Edition casing as well. And Zazz is right. Tech Talk's got more than a few topics talking about random defects and whatnot regarding Mad Catz's sticks. Relax though, they're almost entirely aesthetic if anything, except if you're talking about their FightPads, which apparently have MONSTER problems with diagonal inputs.
EdgeKun Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Actually the more I read, the more I worry. Supposedly there's something about a loose washer that scratches up the PCB for the stick itself? In either case, warranty be damned I'm opening it up now to see how little or much damage has already been done. D: EDIT -- I just finished surgery on my stick not that long ago. After 5 or so hours tops, there was already a LOT of wear on the PCB itself, and i could easily see where the stick would have flat out died given enough use. I highly reccomend anyone who does own the SF4 SE fight stick to replace the joystick, or at least take the metal washer out of the present stick. Just an FYI to others in this thread. EDIT #2 -- For those interested in such mods, I just finished giving my SF4 Fightstick PS2 support. All things considered, it's a pretty easy mod as long as you're comfortable soldering. =D An incredible amount of thanks once again to you Ikagi-chan. Not sure I ever could have done this had you not pointed me in the right direction. ^^
qwerty Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 i don't know what to think of this stick. it's just........ obnoxious.
Kharhaz Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Hello, I've been playing #R online for about 6 months or so but have been playing GG for MUCH longer. I want to be able to play AC, but I cannot do so on the Ps2 controllers so I'm thinking it's time to invest in a stick (Plus it will help my inputs with BB). I hear it's nearly impossible to find a new stick that can play on the Ps2/PC and I wouldn't mind paying for a custom stick, I'm just very bad at soldering/wiring. I was wondering if anyone knew of some builders that have reasonable prices and if anyone knew of the going price for a stick with Sanwa parts that can play on PC USBs and on Ps2. Thanks
RNRR Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 @Kharhaz: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-1i-49-en-70-2byy.html Cheap stick, "plays fine" http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=132043 Uhhhhhhhh..... have fun with shipping.
Kharhaz Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Thanks! That Playasia stick looks like it'll do the trick! Now I'll be ready when AC online finally comes put
ghaleon109 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Since BB finally got announced for the 360 I'll have to start making another stick, but here's my most recent creation... I miss it so much =[ Wireless Xbox 360 PCB Sanwa RG's Sanwa JLF w/ Meshball + extra LS 33 spring + swapped out the JLF microswitches for HAPP cherries Seimitsu system buttons It played so well
Kharhaz Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Well with BB confirmed for Ps3 I was thinking of getting a stick with Sanwa parts or a SF4 TE stick and putting Sanwa stuff in it. I don't know when SF4 TE sticks are going to be in stock again though Does anyone have any recommendations? As long as I don't have to solder anything I should be able to do it.
ghaleon109 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 SFIV TE sticks have Sanwa parts. It's the SE that doesn't... Comes with a JLF that has a square restrictor and sanwa snap-in buttons
