Disappointing news but understandable. They must be in crunch time to finish up the Dengeki fighter for its March release.

What news?

Wait, I still don't get it, why is Gordeau considered so strong? Some of those lists put him above Merkava, which I don't really understand tbh. He's a solid character for sure, but he never seemed 'S Tier'.

Thanks

The Vorpal state sounds cool, it basically is a game that rewards aggressive combat.

Not necessarily, you can get a higher GRD gauge by shielding properly, but that is indeed trickier than just being on the offense.

Can someone actually clarify shield for me? Because the way I read it, even if it disallows throw teching, gaining GRD on block AND getting reduced blockstun for holding a button indefinitely sounds kind of dumb. I'm hoping I'm missing something here.

Seems like the wiki doesn't say this, but I'm pretty sure if you fail to shield a move properly, you loose GRD.I'm not sure if they're using MB shield mechanics in regards to how moves have to be shielded.

You hold D while blocking to activate shield, blocking properly reduces blockstun and awards GRD for each hit blocked, this much is correct. It does prevent you from throw teching and, if you block wrong (or get grabbed), you enter GRD Break which not only prevents you from gaining additional GRD for a time, it also makes you ineligible for GRD Vorpal. This means your opponent will get Vorpal by default the next time the timer for it comes around or it will forcibly remove you from the GRD Vorpal state if you were in it. Hitting an opponent who is trying to shield and putting them into GRD Break also makes a special sound, has a special flash AND has the character say something, so its super easy to hit confirm.

Its a powerful tool, especially if you have no GRD to lose from a break, but you're usually playing with fire considering how quickly some mixups happen in this game and how strong Chain Shift -> Reversal is in a defensive posture. Its usually only used to try and get enough GRD to be ahead of your opponent so that you get Vorpal (and can probably use it to Chain Shift) or to create gaps in pressure on things you can see coming clearly.

Wait....isnt like 90% of fighting games like that? usually having risk and reward in favor of the offensive player?

either way the game seem to be balance risk and reward for both style though..

Had not seen a system like the grid system that consistently circulates a 10% damage buff through out the match based on play style (apparently you can gain grd by properly blocking too), but yes most games do reward more aggressive players in some fashion.

Edit: ok to be honest I had not looked that I depth at fighting game system and was in the Aquarazza thread and saw the sensitivity meter which is similar.

P.s. Is Sega leaving under night in Arcades or will it get a home console release eventually?

1. Sega's only involvement in the game is that it's on their arcade board.

2. A home release has been brought up, but the developers are currently co-developing another game, so it'll be a while if it does happen.

Most FG's actually reward the reactive player as opposed to the pre-emptive player.

Risk-reward is generally in the offensive player's favor though. Being reactive just increases your chances of winning engagements.

I've been wanting to try this game for the longest time, but the lack of a console release is preventing from doing so. Regardless, I have a question for people who know more about the game.

What character in UNIB classifies as the "mixup" character. I'm talking heavy rushdown into a knockdown leading to 50/50 oki setups or whatever the closest thing would be in this game. I was always on the fence about who I wanted to use because I was never sure who fit my favourite playstyle. All I could gather was either Lynne or Seth, though I still don't know if I'm correct in that assumption or not. Any info would be appreciated because this game gets me super hype and I'm excited for the day I will get to play it.

I think Orie fits your description the most, since she has decent mix-ups along with some obscene oki options. Though honestly, I haven't watched that many UNiB replays yet.

Carmine perhaps?

Not sure about 50/50 mixups in particular but in terms of oki pressure that makes your opponent cry, Carmine feels like the way to go so far. That said, Seth's oki also seems really good. I can't remember which video it was exactly but one of the recent videos posted in this thread over the last month had a really good Seth player who completely blew me away with his oki pressure.

As SoWL said, Orie also has some potential in this area because of her move where she summons her persona-like thing that generates a forcefield. The regular one is only one hit but the EX/super one is multiple hits and allows for multiple mixups.
