In the frame data d.6D doesnt hit low? is this correct or a typo?

I can't see anything like that in the data...

At any rate, d.6D does hit low.

just 22BC, it will connect on every character even at point blank.

Oh, maybe I am reading it wrong. In 6D (chain start) the Guard column says L, but in 6D (chain followup) it says HL.

As a beginner, how would you approach certain matchups? Noel is my permanent submain and I did get down some of her combos but it feels weird approaching matches with characters I'm learning.

This is a problem I have when I play my subs, however the best way to do it is play the matchup often and get used to what you're going to be fighting.

I'm checking it out now. A friend told me I'll get used to her eventually so I guess I shouldn't be glum about it. :3

The hardest part of learning someone new is that you are no longer in your comfort zone, buttons do different things and are used differently.

Noel's 5B is for spacing, Lambda's 5B is more close range.

Noel's 2C is a low, Lambda's is an anti-air.

everything is so different, especially true when you are going from Zoning(Lambda) to Rushdown(Noel) where the entire point of the character is different, as Lambda your goal was to keep your opponent as far from you as possible, but as Noel your goal is to chase them down.

Point is: Don't give up, because you become a better player if you can get used to playing multiple styles, and as an added bonus you'll find out that you will also get better with using your main character by playing a sub as well, since it will give you a new outlook on the game as a whole, and find new ways to deal with a situation you may have only previously had one answer for.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I just wanted to throw this in because it might help. Admittedly yeah, when learning a secondary I sometimes get thrown off because I keep expecting my D to open up the who "D attack" series that Noel has, but that's just something you'll adjust to with time. Also, I dare say that learning 2 different characters that don't play similar to themselves will probably help you grow a bit as a player too as you'll be able to see things from multiple angles.

Yeah, I already noticed some improvements with my Lambda when I started using Noel and learning her. Still have work to do though. :3

Hello. I am new to the community and new to fighting games in general. I saw some reviews and decided to pick this game up. I have read about a few things and decided to main Noel. Can anyone give me some advice on how to get started in these games?

First of all get used to moving:

Hold forward to walk forward

Hold back to walk back and block high attacks

hold down-back to crouch and block low attacks

tap up to jump.

tap up-forward to jump forward

tap up-back to jump back

double tap forward to run

double trap back to backdash

double tap up plus any direction to double jump

double tap forward while jumping to airdash

double tap back while jumping to air backdash

Here's where it gets trickier:

Double tap forward and quickly release forward and push the light attack button to do a "Micro Dash" 5A, this is important when you start to learn how ro pressure with her.

Very quickly tap upforward and then forward again to do an IAD(Instant Air Dash) Forward, this is important to getting in.

Very quickly tap upback and then back again to do an IAD Backward, this is important for creating space.

After you get used to moving around, and have 80% of these movements mastered, you can start working on combos.

I suggest you go through the Tutorial mode to learn the basics of this game and its system since you are very new to this game.

After that, since you are maining Noel, you have to get used to her movement (LunaKage's post above) and her moveset to get a feel on what they can do. It's important to know which moves do what in order for your combos to work.

Thank you guys. I will work on that and after I finish I will be back. I willl also state I do understand the combo notations on here.

Okay. I'm willing to say that I have most of the movements mastered aside from the IAD backwards. What should I move on to now?

Start learning some of Noel's basic combos now if you feel you're ready. Here are 10 simple combos you can practice before you move on to her more challenging things.

personally i think you should practice inputs before you practice combos. (remember guys he said he's new to FG's in general)

Get used to doing optic barrel on both sides, get used to doing fenrir on both sides, get used to thor on both sides etc. The worst thing come tournament is to have a preferred side to be on. Moment your opponent knows you are weak on a certain side, they'll potentially sacrifice cornering themselves just to make it so you're always on your worst side.

next you need to get used to the way combos work in BB.

the first thing you need to understand that will make all combos easier, is advanced input. Every time you press a button and hold it down, the game repeats it for 5 frames. This makes combos that have tight links significantly easier as long as they do not have a dash cancel link (the reason why haida is regarded as hard)

I think the best Noel combo that uses this would be your 6C (B+C) 6C/{forward C, Throw Whiff, Forward C} against airborne oponents, just do 6A [6C (B+C)]* n. if you can master advanced inputs, everything you do will be significantly easier since you will always have a 6 frame window for everything non dash related.

I never learned advanced inputs lol. I still laugh at the fact it's still in the game.

I don't quite understand what you are asking...

He's not asking anything, he's trying to give advice, he's just a little abrasive, but his intentions are good.

I understand that, I didn't mean to sound ungrateful you guys have done nothing but help me and I greatly appreciate it. I just don't understand the advanced inputs thing...I had never even heard about it before now...

I personally agree with Luna about the advanced input thing; I never actually learned about them when I was picking up this game (my first serious fighter too) and I feel I was fine without it. But just so you know, advanced inputs basically means that the game is slightly more lenient about when you press a button in combos since the game will register your input for 5 frames, but you won't really need to consciously think about it when you're doing combos in my opinion.

I will say, however, that learning how to do all of Noel's specials and Distortion Drives on both sides of the screen will be very useful since, as Runis rightly pointed out, if you're weak on a certain side this could essentially cost you the match.

To Do List

-Learn how to do all of Noel's special moves e.g. Optic Barrel (236A), Spring Raid (d.623D) etc.

-Learn how to do both of Noel's Distortion Drives i.e. Fenrir (632146D), Thor (j.236236D)

-Learn some of Noel's basic combos and learn how to do all of these on both sides

Once you've done all this, you can either move on to Noel's advanced combos or go for a few real matches online to build up your own play-style and get a feel for the game's flow.

My advice for all its worth:

1- do the general tutorials, and then the noel tutorials.

2- get used to fighting game commands, noel pretty much has at least one move with every different input i can think of, so just practice till u can do them on both sides consistently. Also get used to moving around fast, especially with noel, try doing quick air dashes and the like.

3- learn some BASIC combos, someone a few posts back linked to a few, and u can do some of the first challenges, don't try them all while u're new, not necessary. Don't focus on getting the damage, just on practicing the inputs while under pressure and to get used to combo timings.

4- learn defense. Easiest is to go on training mode, set AI to max and just try to defend as long as possible against it, don't try to counterattack or anything, just block. I find valkenheyn to be the hardest AI to defend against.

5- learn offense. This one is pretty much more "vs player" oriented since the AI doesn't defend properly, i just mean getting a hit through their defense.

Focus especially in 4 and 5, those are very important basics. You will not win anything if you can't defend, and all the combo knowledge in the world is not worth anything unless you can get by the opponent's defense.

After you consider yourself more competent in each area, try improving on it. On defense, start using barrier blocks to avoid air-unblockables and prime breaks, try getting used to using counter assault (especially one like noel's), breaking throws, instant blocking, etc; Only after you are more confident in your defense should you try to counter-attack the opponent. On offense, start learning how to take advantage of a knocked down opponent, using range and distance to your advantage, rapid canceling pressure, see which parts of your offense are working and which are not, and against which character (tager takes a different offensive approach than say... lambda). I would recommend sticking to really basic combos until you are real confident on your offense and defense, and only after start learning optimal damage.

Trying to learn advanced combos from the get-go is a very frequent bad habit for new players, it will just slow down on you getting good a lot. Focus on a few combos you can drill for like 5 mins before you play, and devote the remainder of your time getting solid basics.
