White Man Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 In CS1 console? Makoto's on-disc data was an incredibly buggy test character using Ragna sprites while Valkenhayn and Platinum were mostly blank dummy characters with stick-figure sprites. Something to remember with the CS1 DLC characters is that none of them were announced before the game was released. I have no idea how much of Kokonoe's data was finished at the time the master discs went gold, but the fact that she'll be playable before the game is even on store shelves tells me with near 100% certainty that she's a lot further along development-wise than any of the DLC characters for CS1 were when that game shipped.

Luminos564 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 In a way, I'm actually kind of glad they're being so upfront (well as upfront as Mori can get anyway) about who is going to be strictly DLC. I know some people are not fond of DLC announcements before the game is out, what with the competitive nature of fighting games and all that. But I don't mind it since it gives me a reason to expect something good. Yuuki Terumi is pre-order DLC (in Japan anyway, but may not be so in the US): Awesome. I pre-order all the games I want anyway so I can get a nice little bonus for doing something I've always done. Kokonoe is DLC somewhere down the line: Oh sweet. The one character people have been wanting for so long got thrown a bone. I can wait and see what she'll be like until I make my purchase. Until then, I can ride this hype train all I want.
Volt Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I don't care very much if she's DLC if she can be played in Story mode (Even if you have to buy her first). Because if they postpone the game launch to have her at the start it will be worse for everyone.
ElegantShadow Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I'm a bit confused, is Kokonoe going to be DLC that we can get right when the game comes out like Terumi or is she something we'll have to wait for like Makoto and Valk? :o
SolxBaiken Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 No confirmed date for Kokonoe's release, so she'll most likely have to be waited on. Also note that Terumi is pre-order DLC, his public release hasn't been confirmed to the best of my knowledge.

Makoto's on-disc data was an incredibly buggy test character using Ragna sprites while Valkenhayn and Platinum were mostly blank dummy characters with stick-figure sprites. Maybe we'll have a similar deal with Kokonoe. With regards to Terumi, unless we have a day 1 patch he's most likely on-disc. This (as well as my previous post) is inaccurate. The CS1 DLC characters (Makoto, Platinum, Valkenhayn) had character art/names/HUD stuff, but only a single sprite of Ragna with no palette information iirc. I could pull up the data again to check, but that hard drive is dead and fuck downloading it again. Point is ASW isn't exactly known for on-disc DLC. It's not something I'd be concerned about here. Also, characters you can unlock in-game that have an option to pay for their immediate use (Mu-12, Unlimited characters, possibly Kagura/Terumi) don't really count as on-disc DLC in my view. I do hate DLC characters, though. Just makes it harder on TOs.

Uh, I do know for a fact there was a Makoto test character on-disc using Ragna sprites because for a short bit after she was released there was a bug where in online matches it would load the on-disc test character instead of the proper Makoto from the patch data. The test character was not optimised, the game's framerate would randomly jump up and down and then the game would crash.
White Man Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Makoto was announced before CS1 was released... Ah, you're right. Looks like she was officially unveiled on June 24th (give or take a day), then the game came out on July 1st. Still, that's one week before the game came out as opposed to over a month in the case of Kokonoe in CP. Not saying this is necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, just that it's indicative of a different marketing strategy than what ASW has done in the past. Take that for what you will.
FucSh1a Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 http://www.famitsu.com/news/201309/18040116.html Kokonoe will be playable as well at TGS along with Kagura and Terumi. Oh, and Golden Tager Overdrive!!!!
TPPR10 Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 We already know that, FucSh. Though those clear screenshots are nice.
SolxBaiken Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 We already know that, FucSh. I originally read that as "fuk off" and was like "Whoa!!" = w= But yeah it'll be nice to FINALLY see what Kagura plays like, too bad we probably won't get any dedicated media. Shaky Cams, HOOOOO!

Shaky Cams, HOOOOO! ...if only I didn't have the ACT to take...and if only I had over 1000 dollars in flight, room, and tickets.

Yukikaze Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Nice article... strange we have received so much more information about Kokonoe than Kagura when she was only just announced and were gonna see her in action aswell

Shaky Cams, HOOOOO! Hey, still better than nothing It's still cool that we'll finally get to see all three characters in motion.
Kurushii Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Nice article... strange we have received so much more information about Kokonoe than Kagura when she was only just announced and were gonna see her in action aswell What more were you expecting for Kagura? He was designed as a simple character.
Yukikaze Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 ye but in this article they show Koko's 5B, JB, 5C and JC, multiple specials, a super and OD version within a week or two? of announcement They didn't show us Kaguras normals, only 3 of 4 stances and only the followups to 5D (I believe).
TekkamanArk Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Hmm, I don't know if Kagura is designed to be simple. I suppose he's "simple" if you think about just the charges, or that his stance followups only require 1 button, but properly utilizing him, I could see him being quite difficult.
Zeromus_X Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Inb4 he's as busted as CS1 Mu-12 lol. Wait what, do people really think CS1 Mu was that good? I would hope Arcsys doesn't make Kagura an incomplete character like CS1 Mu. Thankfully his design looks relatively simple so hopefully he gets all the tools he needs right off the bat.
