stickystaines Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 It would depend on how late you can cancel 5C though. I've seen some vids where it looks like he cancels quite late so its possible.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 5c also can get caught by 720 at max range. So be careful with that, but you can go through all of his magnetism tools. Also eating spark bolt with Growler, will still have you magnetized. So it's better to just dash through which shouldn't be too hard as compared to eating it, so long as you're anticipating it and can react to it.
LegendaryRath Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I've seen people backdash through spark bolt plenty of times. It seems really useful.
YukiBlue Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Azrael's backdash is just amazing. I've seen it just "Nope" against so many moves it's ridiculous.
Ichipoo Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Well here's another "Nope" situation. Pretty interesting character. Obviously appeals to the Hokuto no Ken fan in me.
LegendaryRath Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I think Phalynx cannon can combo into itself, maybe even all 3 times. At one point, I saw someone get close to 2k with 2 of them. It's not like it's crazy damage or anything to go out of your way for, but it's nice. I wonder if storing them up could be useful in combos, somehow. That's being really optimistic tho, so I kind of doubt it.
Moy_X7 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 lol, he completely ate Tsubaki's Spiral Swords super: www.youtube.com/watch?v=URMpk_zF4AQ&feature=youtu.be&t=7m42s So I'm guessing that he can stockpile an infinite amount of P. Cannons? lol, I want to seem him eat OD Nu's Legacy Edge. Edit: Aww damn, I just read that he can only store 3 of those
LegendaryRath Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I'm pretty certain he only stores up to 3 at a time, but any projectile with multiple hits will get him all 3.
zeth07 Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 It would definitely be worth it to try and absorb projectiles when you can instead of just avoiding them entirely. The example given in the 1st post is a good reason why. Tager's Spark Bolt maybe being the exception due to still getting magnetism put on you, and Platinum's bubble apparently not counting towards Phalanx Cannon but still being "absorbed".
BladeOfJustice7 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I don't see why Azrael players shouldn't try to eat projectiles as opposed to dodging them, except Spark Bolt, It's a free get out of pressure tool and it provides you with projectiles of your own, and are almost as good of projectiles as Spark Bolt.
stickystaines Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 How does Overdrive improve Az's DD's? I don't even know if ive seen the powered up versions.
LegendaryRath Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I'm not sure either. It's rare to see an Azrael use his OD in a video. The few times I saw it, it seemed like it could have just been on accident.
Lucalibur Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I almost never see Azrael players using their overdrive. Would be nice to have some research done on his moves properties in OD, although I can also see bursts being more useful for Azrael on the long run since he has a easy enough time getting good damage thanks to his drive, but his defensive options outside of his backdash(which, while amazing, is not fail-proof) are somewhat limited either due to the hitbox(His DP's hitbox doesn't looks THAT hot to me) or lack of INV(both supers).
hakimiru Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 How does Overdrive improve Az's DD's? I don't even know if ive seen the powered up versions. I looked through the jbbs a bit, and this is what they're saying about it: (As a side note, I don't know all that much about Azrael so I can't tell if what they're saying makes sense or not. Grain of salt, etc etc please.) OD Effects: 1. Moves apply weaknesses even on block. 2. Weaknesses can be reapplied again right away, even after using them in the same combo (so you can use the same weakness multiple times, like 6D>Valiant, etc). 3. Weaknesses don't disappear automatically over time (for OD duration only). 4. DD buffs (BHS damage up, Scud hit count up) They're also saying that Scud during OD seems to last OD duration + some, but they aren't 100% sure on the details.
YukiBlue Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Is Gustaf Buster safe or moderately safe on Block? on CH I've seen some impressive numbers. GB > 5B(B) > TCL > Stuff = 3.5K ish.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 It's safe enough to warrant its use and it's safe enough that if blocked, allows you enough time to back dash. But yes, it is a very strong neutral tool for Azrael.
zeth07 Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 Is Gustaf Buster safe or moderately safe on Block? on CH I've seen some impressive numbers. GB > 5B(B) > TCL > Stuff = 3.5K ish. It sure seems like it. I've seen pretty much no one punish it.
YukiBlue Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Wow. That's impressive. This was the combo exactly: [uW] GB > 5BB > TCL > RC > 5C Loop x 4 Dude didn't finish the combo, though. I'm more interested in meterless possibilities. It looks really range dependant. Long range looks like it's restricted to 5BB > TCL. But I'd like to see something connect a bit closer, maybe as a quick punish.
MoogleKing Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Azrael going in haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-WKy9PmTX4
LegendaryRath Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I think everyone's seen that by now. It's still hilarious to watch tho :P
MoogleKing Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Oh my bad then, since I didn't see the video posted I thought I might as well share.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Azrael players need to learn to make better use of Growler with regards to projectiles, them seem to be afraid of using it for some reason.
LegendaryRath Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I've noticed that a lot of Azraels tend to ignore that move altogether. They should be going out of their way (without being unsafe about it) to eat projectiles with it. I would just stock up some phalynx cannons in case I want to punish something across the screen. I'm unsure of the exact damage but it seems to be greater than 1k, which is pretty nice. I'm pretty sure it can combo into itself too.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Regardless of the damage, it's one of the fastest projectiles in the game.
Darcius Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 They don't use Growler because its an unsafe as hell, stationary, low damage DP. They're scared. Growler is so punishable and reactable for how slow it recovers. Even at full screen you can be punished for using it to absorb some projectiles. Thats why you see Azrael players hold down Growler after it whiffs and the enemy is close. It doesn't matter if they release it. They're fucked anyway. Might as well look cool for another 15 frames before you bite the dust.
