Blade Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 "WOW! THEY CAME OUT WITH A SNEAKY SURPRISE ATTACK AT THE START OF THE ROUND!" You've all probably heard the announcer from Capcom VS SNK 2 say that once or twice. But in hi-level fights what can you expect from doing stuff like that in Guilty Gear? Fighting Johnny I sometimes get caught by a Surprise TK Ensenga. And have Sol start off with a Volcanic Viper sometimes. And sometimes starting a match with just the right surprise attack can make or break a player I believe. So I wonder if there's a certain strategy to surprise attacks or is it mostly psyche-outs and Okizeme? Do certain matchups dictate what you try to do at the beginning? How do you guys surprise your opponents?
JinSaotome Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Anji: 6S,5H,5P, sometimes 3K Axl: Backdash+2P, 3P :V
Darkhonor90 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I start off the match by unplugging my opponents controller Bet
LightningCancel Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Ky - I'd do something stupid like run in and pray that my 2D hits them; or run in and slap them with 6H.
Arvoyea Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I just try my best not to ge owned so early, IMO. But, yeah I believe how you start a fight is just as important as how you finish it. I just try to use the start to set up how I'll fight the rest of the match. I do this pretty much all fighting games I play.

excelence Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 agree with emoticon, i start a match with taunt
Silmerion Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 It really depends on who I'm fighting. If it's Potemkin, I'm jumping/air dashing backwards to get the hell out of his effective range and put him in mine. If it's Ky, I'll usually Rensen or dash up and 2K. Etc, etc...
iora Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 well since my best, totally tourney-legal main is gold sol i open by mashing forward and buttons, in a sick 84 RC combo thats completely totally tourney legal did i mention how its alll the rage in tourneys? cuz it is.... and its legal to use too

How do you guys surprise your opponents? it's totally match-up specific. suzuran is a funny one, though, cuz if they were mashing on any non-low attack, it's a free counter (you'd be surprised how often this works ). also, pilebunker.
Gunraidan Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Well with Baiken I do her one special where she makes some green wall board (sorry for my n00bness) as my opponent runs right into it.

bucklemyshoe Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Do certain matchups dictate what you try to do at the beginning? In short, YES. It comes down to two things. What charachter I'm up against and if they were watching me fight someone else before them.
Mr. Dogma Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I start off the match by punching my opponent in the face dazing him just long enough to win the match and make my escape.

Digital Watches Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Which mindgame is that? The funniest one of all time, of course.
