Blackhearth Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Ok guys. I'm on the train back to my city. I had a great time playing Xrd and just want to make sure that everyone knows you can trust me when I say we have nothing to worry about. The game is on good hands and the bottom line is this IS Guilty Gear! It feels true to the XX games while making things feel fresh and familiar at the same time. It lowers barriers to entry without taking away the complexity that veterans appreciate. Of course this is not even close to the final version but I'm sure based on all the feedback they are getting from surveys that any tweaks will be for the better. All the Tokyo area top players and regulars I fight were there so everyone will be giving smart and constructive feedback. So, today is a good day to be a GG player. Our scene shall thrive as it did in the glory days once more. For now, play that +R and start building your local scenes so that when Xrd drops we can hit the ground running! I hope to see a ton of you at my GG major, Frosty Faustings VI this winter (check tournaments and events forum for details). I can't test anything else but ill be posting a little more info and am happy to answer more Qs based on what I know. My friend Capps is still at the test and said he will be posting some more May stuff soon so check that out later as well. Keep rockin and stay metal. What about Pot YRC, he can use YRC during Pot buster? like the one in AC?. Any scary thing or funny thing discovered with his two new moves?
ElvenShadow Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) Yes, I think he can YRC buster but I could be wrong. He can YRC the new air move for sure. The flaming move seems to eat projectiles. Also, I just watched those vids and let me just say that they don't even do the game justice. It looks way better in person. Arobadope Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I certainly never said this. I think the animations seem fine. Nah, that wasn't towards you, thank you for all the info you've given though!
Blade Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Well, based on everyone's comments on the techniques used to produce Xrd's brand of 3D, Guilty Gear isn't just another "animu fite gaem" anymore if devs take them seriously and use ARC's ideas. Still, I'd like to know more about Dust Dash Cancel (Forward after Dust). If it gets blocked you can't dash cancel from it right, it's only ON HIT, right? Also, regarding Danger Time...I think it's meant to function similarly to BlazBlue's Fatal Counters.
Beautiful Death Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 what's there to know about it isn't it just like an all-out attack run follow up basically.
werewolfgold Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) Does it look like the intro and close up shots are actually meant to be like that? Or could it be that the game is just slowing down and skipping frames because they haven't sorted it out yet? It looks intentional as it's pretty consistent all around. Though, it is a possibility that the frame skip will change for the final product. To be fair, even though anime is shown at a 24 fps framerate, the vast majority of shows are not animated at 24 fps, since it's expensive as hell. 12 fps is typically the upper end, with 8 and 6 fps being the more typical, budget friendly speed for TV. 24 fps is reserved for really expensive scenes and movies, most of the time. That is true. Perhaps, I misspoke when I threw out a number then. I'd say that if you were to watch a random anime that's on TV right now, and then watch the game, you'd see something off. It may be because there's a lack of movement blurring going on while 2D can fake some transitioning that way when there is a lack of actual frames. I'll reiterate that this is just for the opening animations and such. The fight looks pretty good barring a few things in animation that are typical of 2D fighters. EDIT: Actually, I think what may be the problem is that it's moving too slowly. If they quickened the openings, then it would likely look fine. The opening's as they are kind of are a tad too lengthy anyway. Edited August 11, 2013 by werewolfgold
SolxBaiken Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) Still, I'd like to know more about Dust Dash Cancel (Forward after Dust). Since I know you're a stickler for this kind of stuff, on the mobile site [only listed there apparently] they are known as "Homing Jump" and "Homing Dash". And yes, on block you get neither option. Danger Time sounds super gimmick to me, but I guess it will be fun playing chicken, I'd like to see what this "Super Counter" state looks like though. what's there to know about it isn't it just like an all-out attack run follow up basically. Well going off reports Homing Dash will have more application than the All-Out Attack in P4U since you can apparently combo with it mid-screen, so it's essentially the Impossible Dust trick made easy. Well that has clarified me about the Dust Cancelling Options.... now plz explain to me the YC - I have no idea how it works! (I have read Elven's note but still didn't get the image yet) Thanx in advance!
SolxBaiken Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Well, going off reports and that one translated interview by Suzaku, there's only 1 Roman Cancel, however the color will change depending on the situation an RC is used in. Yellow seems to be indicative of moves that have yet to connect yet (hence whiffs and projectiles) and traditional Red is for moves that were already connecting before RCing. Ishiwatari said there could be more colors in the future but he wasn't ready to talk about that. Also the reports say the "time slow" is universal to all variations [at this point 2] of RCs. That's how I interpret it thus far.

Kurushii Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I don't feel like digging but I don't think this article was posted. http://www.4gamer.net/games/216/G021678/20130809092/
kosmos badgirl Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Maximilian impressions. http://youtu.be/BTkatGRfUj4 Tsuchirinhon impressions (he played the game). http://www.youtube.com/user/Tsuchirinhon/videos
Vashimus Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Max has always been a Capcom Fighter guy (nothing wrong with that), so who knows if he'll even stick around with Xrd for long and go back to Marvel or whatever. I'd to see him really get into this game though. His Online Warriors are entertaining.

He dabbles in other games occasionally (and seems to be enjoying Injustice), but UMvC3 is his main thing.

But he does like playing other games..look at Injustice..hell he has been playing more of that than UMVC3.. He is really looking forward to this game..he thinks the game is absolutly stunning for a fighting game..
Dandy J Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 he plays w/e, i think he mostly just goes with what his youtube subscribers want to see
ElvenShadow Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I dunno where max heard that Xrd plays like Marvel 3 but that's not accurate. Xrd plays like Guilty Gear, plain and simple.

the_d3v Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 IDK, he "dabbles" in Third Strike quite a bit. Dabbles is an overstatement. He may occasionally play 3rd Strike but he doesn't really play 3rd Strike.
Tokkan Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Max may have made Marvel 3 content on youtube, but the overall impression I get from his appearance at Salty Cupcakes and indeed even that Xrd impressions video is that he does not like Marvel 3, he doesn't find it very fun at all.
Rhiya Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Everyone is tsundere for their favorite game. Once you love it, you play it enough to know all the great points and all the really stupid shit, too, so you'll curse it in one breath and praise it the next.
the_d3v Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Everyone is tsundere for their favorite game. Stupid Saado-sutraiku-san, it's not like I play you because I like you. /blush /twintails.
Kristoph Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Does it look like the intro and close up shots are actually meant to be like that? Or could it be that the game is just slowing down and skipping frames because they haven't sorted it out yet? The choppiness of the intro animations looks like unintentional lag to me. I'll be surprised if they stay that way.
