Luminos564 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 ...please tell me that the guy was drunk or something. Sure, that wouldn't excuse the behavior, but at least it would provide some explanation. I doubt that was the case considering this was when he was ~15 and a group of us were playing our own MvC II tournaments at the one nearby arcade. I find it kind of suspect that he used Blanka as inspiration since MvC II did not have him on the roster.
Circuitous Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 ...kind of amazing that we're nearly through with 2013 and people still include "spammers" and "turtles" as their pet peeves. Get better. Play around it. There is no tactic that cannot be overcome.

There is no tactic that cannot be overcome. pet peeves have nothing to do with being unable to deal with or otherwise handle the given irritant - its just that, an irritant dare i risk getting offtopic ill mention yet another of mine i forgot the first time around -- JUMPERS.... STOP JUMPING OMG .... WHY
someonewhodied Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 for me its people that have the mindset "straight line attack." I constantly play against people that use ragna and run straight at me, not jump, not block, and throw a 5B and it works. Why? I expect them to do something smart and jump or something so I throw out a 2C or something. Ragna 5B beats that. And then they keep doing the same thing. I need people to play smart to download them =_= my weakness is stupidity.

Ugh, people who throw or 5B in the middle of MY blockstrings at the stupidest of times and get lucky, get on my nerves. Also the people who noobishly mash DP noobishly and DP/720 me out of Lunatic Upper combos because it lagged slightly. (The exact thought that goes through my head when this happens is: "Some things are better off unsaid") Although when it comes to yomi layers, sometimes the idiotic/noob thing to do is actually the right thing to do if your opponent is planning against a genius.

It's strange that when you play against smart opponents so much that you know exactly what to expect, but then you fight someone of lower level and you're taken by complete surprise. XD
Teutonicknight Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 That gets me too. It's like when they react slower, stupider, and unsafely, it actually works... Because it catches you off guard when you expect a legit retaliation.

It's strange that when you play against smart opponents so much that you know exactly what to expect, but then you fight someone of lower level and you're taken by complete surprise. XD It's because you're so used to high-level players and know what to expect. See, while the more experienced players know and have written down the most "optimal" combo routes (if I do X then I will do Y and finish off with Z), that same knowledge can be used against them (though even better players will adapt to you adapting to them). But then, you fight someone completely new who mash buttons and do stupid stuff and it'll hit you, because somewhere in the back of your head you're going "They can't be that dumb to think that'll work". And that's when they get you. To put it as a rather crude analogy, you may be able to dodge bullets but if I throw freshly dropped dog poo at you, there's a pretty good chance I can score a hit because when would you ever think that someone would throw poo at you? It's interesting (and a bit annoying) just how many battles someone can win just by Mashing, using obscure starters, and block-strings, and leaving you completely dumbfound of what just occurred. XD To put it as a rather crude analogy, you may be able to dodge bullets but if I throw freshly lad dog poo at you, there's a pretty good chance I can score a hit because when would you ever think that someone would throw poo at you? I really hate that I actually giggled a bit at that analogy, I'm suppose to be Elegant. XD
skd Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 if you were truly a strong player i dont think you would let things that you are unfamiliar with catch you by surprise, you should half expect it if its within the realm of possibility (within game limits/constraints, ofc)
Teutonicknight Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 So. Hit. Them. Back. I actually had to deal with an idiot once who went around biting other people on the shoulder during a match. Then his teeth and my fist went on a date. His teeth decided it was best to go see other people. Whoa, are you serious!? lol, I would have knocked his ass out and called the zombie extermination squad on him, haha.
Luminos564 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I really hate that I actually giggled a bit at that analogy, I'm suppose to be Elegant. XD And there you go: something utterly dumb caught you by surprise because you did not expect it XD. Whoa, are you serious!? lol, I would have knocked his ass out and called the zombie extermination squad on him, haha. LOL, yeah it happened. I'm actually not one to get angry at random trash talk or when the audience wants to join in the demotivational train. But "trash biting" is another story altogether.
Teutonicknight Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 It doesn't have to just be trash biting, it could be any kind of biting that would give you permission to cave his mouth in. That's beyond a pet peeve, it's a one-of-a-kind disturbance. xD
Luminos564 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 That's beyond a pet peeve, it's a one-of-a-kind disturbance. xD I guess it is more of a case "crazy shit you do to get a competitive edge going". Some people just take things WAY too seriously. Though I guess that's a more general (and sane) pet peeve: people who don't know how to chill the frak down. At the end of the day. it is all a game. Unless we're playing for big payoffs and we got beer companies sponsoring us to go to SBO or something, there's never a reason to lose your shit over a game.

I find it quite humorous when after I'm done giving the opponent a thorough thrashing they blow their lid and go out of their way to try and psyche me out with trash-talk and insults only to end up messing themselves up, but that's just me. XD

XD No, I was more talking about the kind of crazy where their voice reaches the point where it sounds like a harpy screeching and they smash a $40 controller that YOU brought to your local scene. Oh sure, they might pay for the damage caused but it ain't like they'll ever apologize for being an utter dick.

MY5TCrimson Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) Rage-quitters. Dear God, the rage-quitters. No less the system in place for handling them - giving both players an incomplete match on their record. If someone freaks out and quits a Ranked Match, I can sort of understand - not forgive, mind. But when it happens in a Player Match, where everything is just casual...then it's just plain ridiculous. Edited September 16, 2013 by MY5TCrimson
NaRD Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Being runback on because for the next 40 seconds I make mistake after mistake after mistake.
Elochai Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I dislike it when people pick Cactus Carnival or Motor Head. Both of those songs are horrible.
Teutonicknight Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I hate it when people complain/make excuses when they lose. "It was all because of lag/controller/wrong button/your character is cheap/I didn't use my main/that move is stupid/etc."
Powerstar7 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I hate it when people complain/make excuses when they lose. "It was all because of lag/controller/wrong button/your character is cheap/I didn't use my main/that move is stupid/etc." I agree with all those points, besides lag. We all spend hours in the training room so we can play to the level we want or have achieved. When lag rolls around all of that means nothing. If someone rolls around with a 1 bar or a bad 2 bar, I'll ask my friend or the lobby leader to kick the person. If not, I'll just leave. It's wrong if you bitch about it for 10+ minutes after you already lost to them though.

Honestly, I don't even like winning if there's lag. Hence why I barely played netplay.
Teutonicknight Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I don't like the "Oops, I won with something I totally didn't mean to do" kind of victories either. Feels like I didn't earn it.
Powerstar7 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Those actually make me laugh. Espcially when it's something really out there that seems smart as fuck. I proceed to then and roll with it
