Can 5D still grab crouching opponents? I thought I saw a pic where 5D whiffed on a crouching opponent.

AFAIK 5D can still catch crouching opponents. It's just that the range on it is so poor that it can whiff pretty easily. At least you can CH J.C>J.D or Mabufudyne>J.D in some situations.

Anyone wonder if 5D goes farther when air turned like in P4U? Perhaps Dammy-poo can clarify eventually... Or we'll have to wait and see since I don't expect any Liz players to record that kind of finding any time soon. : l

It was I, Dio (or rather me not able to edit correctly and re-read carefully before posting)

It was early in loketest notes, so I'm not sure if this still holds true, but the air-turn j.D trick disappeared, but to make up for that, they did improve jD's range by a bit !

Oh.... yay? I guess? Can't say that's better or good... I guess just decent really. But then gain it was an early loketest note so maybe it doesn't hold true now. *Crosses fingers

It was i.... Dio?

Edit: Such ignorance I had back then for not knowing that It was You! DIO!!!

Now enjoy yourselves everyone:

Dunno if anyone watched Damosu's reign of destruction on stream, but here're some random things I noticed:

If Liz A blocks Liz B's awakened 236A, she can punish with 236A. Awakened 236AB gets bopped by 236A if 236A hits between awakened 236AB's first & second shot. jC on reaction to BD is hilarious; I guess it's the best option if you're really close to the other Liz?

You can also do awakened 214AB > 236 for a left/right-high/low mix up near/in the corner.

Everyone was getting bopped by 214A > 66 5A; I suppose because you can't block for the first 5~ airborne frames? I don't think anyone blocked this.

Also, for some reason, Shadow Labrys jB never triggered Randomizer. Anyone know why that might've happened? I've seen Randomizer catch Akihiko jB, so that's kinda weird.

2[C] is the best antiair.

All I want to say is that...Yamashita's team got OCV'd by Damosu...

Oh, and start working 2D into your gameplan now if you're still playing. It's freakin' amazing in both versions of the game.

I noticed that too, and not only in these videos but others as well ! It seems that the counter has a specific hitbox that must touch the opponent's hurtbox (similarly to Hakumen in Blazblue). It means that the catch part of the counter will just fail against some moves.

Currently updating the video thread with footage, Damosu is absolutely incredible with this character. I watched him set up like 3 instant kill combos and force a burst, on top of his sick rushdown and smart neutral and 236B corner cross-up Liz looks like a god now. It seems like certain characters will have no answer but to guess on that last setup. If they try to roll they'll probably put themselves back into the corner, or maybe get hit by the laser. That one Aigis player tried to DP it and it looked like she was left in enough recovery to be punishable.

BTW, should I delete the 1.0 footage soon? It's not at all going to be relevant once the console version gets released and enough new footage is coming in that it won't look as empty.

Damosu needs to fix his mind charge habits. That's one of the big things losing him rounds. He'll mind charge really early and then immediately get hit at neutral. Another thing is that after those combo videos, it sure doesn't look like he's using a number of the combos he showed us. He's not optimizing his damage and that's hurting him, too (his confirms are a little weak at times).

I still think he's performing amazingly, but those problems are holding him back a bit when he could otherwise be bodying even more players.

Do you mean combos like xx>sb maragi>dia>5A>stuff? I don't believe those are possible anymore due to the changes that Maragi got. Not 100% though, but i believe that's the case.

I would say that Hama is more viable in this version if only because you don't need OMB for most confirms.

I can't really comment on the difficulty of her combos since I haven't played the game (perhaps someone who played her at EVO can give their opinion?). SB Garu routes at least look easier to me since you're just holding down most of the time. Some of the D Garu stuff looks kinda funky though.

I would also argue that Elizabeth's playstyle is pretty much the same as it was in P4U. Nothing about her, at least in my opinion, is so different that you would be playing her in a new way.

Damosu qualified for Arc Revo just now. It was kind of a weird tournament, but I'm happy that he pulled it off.

*Patiently awaits videos.

It's been kind of a slow month for me. There was no new Lizzie footage to enjoy and I apparently kept missing the EVO stream that featured a Lizzie player bodying people hard.

On the gameplay side of things, I need to ask something in regards to the Mabufudyne series. What was nerfed from P4A Mabufudyne to the P4AU version? What specifically makes the pre-Awakening (B) version terrible from it's P4A era? Besides not being able to combo off some things without the 2C buff.

Posted

I swear they nerfed the range of Mabufudyne or something... or it was either startup.

I'm waiting to hear the remix for Battle Hymn Of The Soul that was shown in that Liz trailer.

I think not only did they nerf B Mabufudyne's range, but also the freeze happenes when Thanatos slashes the opponent, he doesn't open up his coffins and release the ice like in Arena, which means if you wanna combo into Maragidyne, you need to spend 25 SP to use the SB version of Mabufudyne

Posted

It's a combination of the way the freeze works, the changes in ranges, and the frame advantage on non-awakening Bufus being worse. The startup is the same as last game, but the recovery is worse. I don't remember the specifics behind the new ranges, so I'd have to check on that to note how it affects Bufu usage in neutral.

I'd suggest waiting for the console release for information on usability for certain tools that goes into very specific match-up details, btw. It's hard to tell what's what when most of what we're seeing is improper usage of something regardless of the character. There's only so much top/high level footage for us to go off of, and they're bound to make mistakes and use things incorrectly at times as well.

I'm a total klutz and I don't know how to timestamp on Twitch, but here's the archive of Overlord Damosu bodying people in the qualifier. Skip to 4:52:37 / 5:02:18 / 5:21:17 / 5:46:13.

I'm pretty convinced that Damosu is a wizard (it's not like he's really good or anything!!!).

In regards to the bufu discussion, I pretty much agree with everyone else. A & SB are so much better than B now. There's probably no reason to use B since the recovery is horrendous, and you can't cancel it into anything anyway (plus the freeze change too, like Klisan said).
