So wait... you just take risks and hope the Japanese don't see you as some offensively weird gaijin weeb? Because part of the reason I care to learn the "truth" (if I can call it that anymore, since now I'm not sure) is simply because I know America's more culturally dickish (at least from what I've seen - met more disrespectful jackasses than respectful) and I've heard that kind of attitude won't fly over in those parts.

It's more like... how do I put this? I'm trying not to hit any insult flags with those guys, as I don't know what might be culturally insensitive to them. That sound comprehensible*?

*Note: I lack a better word for this, but trying to understand other cultures is something I've never really been good at, on account of people telling me to worry more about "being American".

If you think something will offend you can simply be cautious and not do that thing. I'm not even sure exactly what you're specifically worried about here. Being a dick is bad even in America so you shouldn't do that either way. Just cause more people do it doesn't make it good, it just makes society a septic tank.

Most Japanese people who haven't met many foreigners will likely expect you to be a hideously offensive barbarian anyways so it's not like you'll just drive em off anyways, it's more surprising to know how to properly say and do things than making some social mistake like sucking on your chopsticks or not seeing someone off all the way to the door or something.

Don't worry too much and apologize a lot, eventually you'll learn.

Sounds good. Btw, what's the learning curve look like on, say, Kirito? Is he as hard to play as I've heard UNIEL's Seth being (a friend on PSN who was stoked for UNIEL told me he was pretty hard to play with)?

And in terms of assists, who would you say has good synergy with him?

Main difficulty is getting the most of nitoryu. Otherwhise he's not that hard of a character ( nothing compared to seth ).

As for assists, kino ( arguably best assist in the game ) and leafa are by far the best assists for him.

So is the only requirement for Enju to show up in Tomoka's RO-KYU-BU! super that she is selected as the assist? Does it change the properties of the super at all such as slightly more damage, or is it just aesthetic? Does Enju have her own specific voice lines for when they say "Shougakusei wa saikou daze" at the end of the super and she joins in with the pose?

It's purely aesthetic. Something like 5S right before Rokyubu super since she does a pose at the end of her attack.

From your avatar alone (Rentaro main, I assume?) I totally expected that response. With that said, I do indeed agree with your sentiments - Enju assist is totally BA when paired with Tomoka.

I always loved short-combo'ed hard-hitting high-low mixups characters ( azrael, slayer, potemkin ... ). So rentaro is instant-main material ( though kirito will probably join too ).

Picked Kirito partly because of the playstyle, partly because he's a dude (I tend to scout out shonen-types early on, or find the toughest woman in the cast if there is no male fitting that category), and partly because his Color 6 is a shout out to Elsword (which is why I felt like picking Leafa Color 3 or 10 - which could also reference Rena and Elesis respectively).

My alternative choice (assuming Kirito was hard to play) was going to be Yukina, but I guess Kirito got the goods.

'Course I still have to get the game - $60 is SO not my budget right now. Oh well, least gives me time to study Kirito tech.

So we still need contributors to the Mizuumi wiki. I will get back to adding the normal images (as well as fixing the formatting for the two new characters) over the weekend, probably sunday.

Progress is coming along, but there's still a lot of information we need! If you can translate from either of the two jp wikis or add descriptions please help!

Those of you whom are looking at the 2 DLC options on the JP PSN market, those are just themes for your PS3.

Not confident in my translation skills or I would help lol. Still waiting on my physical copy + testing before adding any kind of character content but no worries there will be something soon

Dudes, any Youtube video that explains the basics of this game? I got it yesterday and I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing :v:

I'm still learning the game, but I messed around a bit with Selvaria/Alicia and I think I'm figuring them out a bit. I'd like to compare notes with people because I haven't been able to netplay much so far (for what little that is worth on my awful connection). Still learning BnBs with Trump Card already active as well.

I think I'm figuring her out, but the main thing I don't get about her so far is her teleports. What do they have for invulnerability or autoguard? (Presumably they have some near the middle so you can go through fireballs and such. I'm still learning where everything is in training mode because I can't read Japanese.) What does holding the button (for stuff like 214[A]) change about them?

Despite the cannons she really strikes me as more of a mid-range character than a long range one due to the reality of meter dynamics in this game. Cannons are only really safe when you're way the hell away and you're not gonna build nearly as much meter doing Marvel-style keepaway as you are creeping to mid-range Guilty-Gear style and trying to keep the fight there. Her A+C is a really good punish in lame matchups, but it pushes the opponent really far away, which can be counterproductive if you're down on life and you needed that A+C mostly to get momentum back. So you still have to make your way back in kinda carefully even with a good read.

I like the tracking on Alicia's grenade, but unfortunately none of Sel's meterless hard knockdowns seem to be advantageous enough to do Alicia 5S meterless and be anything other than safe to reversals. Seems really good that she can get knockdown from the absolute tip of 5C range though.

Main thing I like about Alicia so far is being able to extend Sel's throw combos with her 5S. For 1 bar I can get a free Power Up Blast by doing throw(1) 5S (stomp hits) (grenade hits) Power Up Blast (do the Blast late enough and it hits OTG so they can't tech). For actual combos from that starter, so far I have 1939 for 1 bar, 2239 for 2 bars, 3128 for 3 bars, 1761 using Combo Blast only, 2077 if you just do throw into Trump Card (though I would avoid doing that except for the kill since Sel seems better at mid range).

I need to mess more with Alicia 4/6S. Seems decent and I have at least basic combos with it, but again, Sel's lack of ability to call her safely without a cancel kinda bugs me. Right now I'm much more used to the grenade assist, especially in combos because I understand the scaling a lot better from her 1 big hit than the zillion little hits of 4/6S.

I've only played one (underwater) matchup and that was vs KYH. Seems like it would be more even without lag but it feels like Sel's better off challenging her at mid-range (where KYH is pretty good) than keeping her out (or if I want to keep her out, I need a lamer assist like Leafa or something). Hard to poke at her randomly with cannons unless you're sure she's out of stabbing range & isn't gonna read you. But her 2A+B is a counter so it seems safer to chuck grenades on her wakeup for baiting purposes. Plus in a pinch it seems like you can punish all her long-range moves with Sel's Trump Card.

I liked this game more than I thought I would despite not recognizing 90% of the characters in it. Seems like it'll be fun offline when you're not rolling the dice whether or not you successfully chained/special-cancelled that lucky counterpoke.

Oh lol sorry. I'll give it a try.

Just a quick question: what do you suggest me with Asuna? I picked Horo as my assist, and she's weird (her healing seems useful though)

I can make a tutorial video with the material on the first page if anyone is interested in doing this little project? I'll see about getting start on it tonight.

Leafa and kino are probably the most effective assists i've seen with Asuna in competitive play.

I've seen quite a few Enju pairs as well. Perhaps its her moe factor or something like that.

... Actually I think it's her divekick-esque stuff. It covers the top screen quite well if you know how to use it.

TBH, I feel like there's more to this game than we realize, but people are just dismissing it because it lacks a fancy kind of mechanic akin to UNIEL or GGXrd. If you ask me, though, I think people are extremely biased towards the old styles - which is why they love those games in particular (some peeps are just too scared to try new things).

Maybe when I get the game, I'll experiment with different pairs.

I have some time over the weekend, could do some translation work.  What are the two JP wikis and how/who do I get in touch with on a Mizuumi login?

Isn't Horo good? >: It's like the only assist that calls my attention for now lol
