Official Austin Topic, 4th Edition full of fun and happy times! ;o
redsilversnake replied to PozerWolf's topic in South
I answered my own question? What question? Anyway, re-reading your posts, I did exaggerate somewhat. You did elaborate on more things than I remembered. You say when you've probably never seen me play since I started coming back to UFO. I mean, I'll admit that I've been victim to the very mindset being discussed, and a number of epiphanies I've had this past year forced me to realize this, but the knowledge I've gained since then is how I can see the flaws in your arguments, even if my application of that knowledge is still a work in progress. I don't take issue with your statements because they're "harsh," but because they're poorly thought-out. Like I said, there's a difference between telling people the bitter truth and just letting your words flow through unfiltered, and you moved from the former to the latter. -

Ishiwatari flat-out said that new characters will be the last ones added to the game, because they're prioritizing the returning cast. And at this rate, it's more likely that characters will have to be added after the arcade release, so patience will be important in the coming months. -

Isn't it just that the hitstop is shorter? I remember the general impressions being that the game's actual speed is the same, it just feels faster due to the hitstop reduction. Not that I would know, though, since my copy didn't come in today, so I won't get it until Monday. -

I did read your posts. You explained nothing. You're relying on blanket statements with little real reasoning to back them up. The only valid critiques you've offered are that many players will overvalue their few wins over multiple matches and that these same players suffer Dunning-Kruger due to the mindset that they can learn how to play well just from watching top players in videos. Both of these assertions are true, but you went off the deep end by saying that watching vids will actively hurt your play (which a drastic oversimplification) and that xcopying is just bad (when few players are even utilizing strats they themselves came up with, and many of those that do have mostly come up with sub-par ones). The problems don't lie in the videos themselves, but in the reliance on them over understanding what good play is. That's why it's more accurate to say players stagnate rather than deteriorate; they reach a certain level, but don't take the necessary steps to go even further. In that sense, we can agree that there's an attitude problem among Texas players (and really, American players in general), but if you're trying to help, you're going about it the wrong way. There's a difference between being real with people and just spouting shit that pops into your head, and you're honestly closer to the latter with your recent posts here. -

What a comprehensive, detailed rebuttal. You should totally join the debate team. -

In his Evo interview, I remember DIE-Chan said it's fine to copy top players, but that you'll eventually have to start thinking about why those players do what they do. I would say rather than a blanket statement like, "watching videos is poisonous," it's more that people just don't get to that second part. In that sense, it's not that scouring videos of high-level play is harmful, but just that it won't help you improve. -
Arc isn't to blame for this, least of all for the budget. They may have invested in it, but most of the budget is from the production company itself and any other investors it has. Mori personally could probably take some blame (since, IIRC, he does have some involvement), but ASW itself wouldn't be much more involved than any other company whose IP gets adapted.

If it can run on PS3, the differences in performance will probably be minimal. The only problem would be whether or not there's cross-play online (since I know of people who prefer playing on the same console as their friends), and only time will tell if that's a feature in Xrd. As for FRCs, my own experience is that those "tricks" are okay for starting, but only for starting; once you start adjusting to the timing, you'll have to commit it to muscle memory to the point that you don't even need those cues, or you'll just miss them more often than not in actual play.

[CP] News & Gameplay Discussion (Old)
redsilversnake replied to kosmos badgirl's topic in BlazBlue Gameplay
Those rumors are baseless. Placeholder dates are only there because retailers require release dates to take pre-orders, and March was likely listed just because for many companies, Q1 starts in Spring. So until Aksys themselves announce a release date, it's best to just ignore any dates given. -
Isn't スラッガ一 "slugger," not "slacker," or is that just another example of Engrish weirdness? edit: OK, I actually looked the word up, and it fits. Apparently, a slugger in baseball is someone who goes for big hits, like homeruns, which is very accurate for someone like Junpei. Also, "slacker" already has equivalents in Japanese, so there wouldn't be any reason to use Engrish for it. So yeah, SRK misread the kana.

redsilversnake replied to KayEff's topic in BlazBlue Gameplay
No. Digital versions usually don't come with any bonuses, so if you buy digitally, be prepared to pay for Terumi separately. Unless that's the reason the NA version is taking so long, no. They didn't for any version of CS, so I wouldn't expect any different for CP. -
Kagari's pretty easy to pick up. Her gameplay is straightforward and most of her combos aren't that hard.

Hadn't the Japanese reservations been set up by then? Pretty sure her backstory is that the one she was living in was what got destroyed. -

Honestly, I wouldn't put too much stock in the story comment. In my experience, Japanese creators will flat-out lie about that, so it's best to wait until actual story details come out. -

Dunno if the interview goes into more detail, but in the stage event, it sounds like Ishiwatari isn't saying characters will get cut, but that including all of them will be difficult, so for now, they're prioritizing a balance of "who's interesting to play" and "who's popular among players." So, as others have said, he doesn't seem like he's precluding any post-release additions, just being upfront about the practicalities of development. -

They were the ones who released Chaos Code in NA, yes, and the developer's English language rep (at least, I think that's his job) did indeed get in touch with them and he seemed out of the loop. So yeah, it does look like their US branch is wrought with oversights. -

So it is. Guess I was behind on updates. Still, good to hear. Simultaneous console release with Japan only happens with big, popular titles, which GG isn't. Also, BB has done well for Aksys; their big sellers right now are apparently their VNs, but BB has hardly been a loss for them. -

We actually don't know for a fact that the game will be at E3. The ASW president just said that Ishiwatari might go to next year's. -

Watching the link Tigre gave, I heard Spring 2014 mentioned, but I don't know if that's relevant to the announcement or if it's for another official tournament (since I'm pretty sure the staffer does mention that). But yeah, from what I could tell, October is the arcade update, not console. My Japanese is really weak, though, so I can't be sure.
