Yeah, I've consistently heard that Venom is decidedly weaker in this version, so that's no surprise. I am surprised by where he puts Potemkin, though; he didn't seem to get nerfed that badly.

If you look in the trophy thread, Yohosie wrote a good guide on it. -

She was one of two writers, actually, she's just the only one credited for series composition (which I believe means she was the one who planned out/wrote the outlines for the series). She's also one of the writers for the games' story. -

No, I'm just saying that the results of a tournament like that don't mean as much as you seemed to think. -

You must have missed the part where I wrote "intermediate or lower in terms of skill." I don't have an actual rebuttal, so I'll just use what I mistake for wit. -

>Extend >Balanced wut? Extend had more of the slapped together feel than CS2 did, and as such isn't exactly a good example at all of "when an ArcSys game actually gets balanced." You forget that that was an American tournament where most players were intermediate or lower in terms of skill. Not a good example of character balance in the game. -

Mad late, I know, but there are some things I wanna say to this. It's not just Team BB, ArcSys in general just isn't good at balance. You mention +R, but that game has Zappa and Faust being way too good, while I've consistently seen complaints about other characters getting arbitrary nerfs. As glad as I am that my own character got practically nothing but buffs, there seem to have been as many nonsensical changes as there were smart ones. And now that Xrd's developed some, you can see this is still the case with characters like Zato, who are very difficult for certain characters to fight. With GG, I'd say that it's not that the game has good balance, but that it has fewer bad design choices than BB (e.g., poor ground ukemi system, universal overheads) or P4U (e.g., R-Action, AOAs) and is overall designed to better reward good play. I actually posted a longer write-up about this, but I don't remember where it is. -

That's just part of a running joke about Noel being Mori's waifu. As susano kind of said, there's a difference between a player being good enough to work around their character's weaknesses and a character not being weak. Just because Goro makes Makoto look strong doesn't mean she actually is, he's just way better than anyone here. Anyway, like yohosie said, ArcSys is just terrible at balance. If there is favoritism, it's a minor issue compared to that. -
Even putting that aside, why would a Japanese company making a game for a Japanese audience decide not to release said game on a particular console because of a translation? But yeah, pretty sure it's been proven that Mori wasn't entirely accurate about the difference in storage space. Even though he probably could've just pointed to the 360's low Japanese sales with no issue.

Labrys is different from Elizabeth, though. Whereas Liz apparently got overly nerfed, Labrys is actually somewhat better overall than in the first game. The reason she's considered worse in this version is a combination of her frame data nerfs with the buffs the top tier characters and a few high ones got outweighing what she gained.

Correct. No Japanese DLC is usable with a North American copy. -
Chizuru is easily the best character, and players generally agree that Tamaki is right below her. I'm not entirely sure about much beyond that, but Karula (no, there isn't a u in her name, whoever did the romanization fucked up) isn't among the top three. As for the other characters you mention, Konomi actually seems pretty average rather than high, while I've consistently seen Sasara described as weak.
-
Not really. She's solid, but she's not as good as Chizuru or Tamaki, she just has a better chance against them than half the cast does.

Her 623x honestly isn't that good. It's easy to anti-air, and whiffing it can lead to a punish. It might be fine from time to time, but it's generally a weak tool in neutral. Dash into 236B or 214x is legit, though, especially since the dash goes under certain things. Just gotta look for chances to use it.
-
Neutral - 5B, 2B, j.B, j.C, and 236B Pressure - 5/2A>2B>236B, whatever>5C>5/6D, throw, watch for jump-outs so you can air throw Defense - Find gaps to jump or mash out, make sure you have meter for guard cancels, watch for jumps so you can anti-air Oki - j.B, j.C, 5/6D depending on assist character She's not really a setup character by herself, so I can't give any advice there, but Rina, Yuki, and Ma-Ryan are apparently her best assists, at least going by the Japanese footage I've seen. Ma-Ryan's probably the best if you're not gonna put a whole lot of time in, since she's really easy to use (5D is good for neutral, 6D is good for combos, and she has a fast enough recharge time that you don't have to worry too much about when to use her).

Pretty sure this was known even before the game's release, though I don't remember who said it. There was also an early vid where that happened in a Ky mirror. He said earlier in the thread that you regain about half of the meter used. -

I was half joking. I'll still play games I don't like as much as the ones I really wanna play, but it is sad to see how few people play the latter. -

All the games I prefer are dead, RIP my FG life. -
The change may very well be pointless for his combos, but it does mean players will probably have to actually manage the gauge during neutral, which would make it easier for their opponents to play against them.

That's exactly what they did with P4U, though. That does indeed seem not to be the case this time, but there is precedent for them rebalancing a game after just a month. -

I wouldn't say so. Marvel has always had a much lower focus on neutral, instead placing more emphasis on the aforementioned TOD combos. Its meta is also very different as a result, especially since, from what I understand, at least, most of the cast simply isn't viable, which is why, much like KoFXIII, you tend to see more homogeny among teams, and thus in placings. This is pretty much the opposite of GG (and to some extent, ASW games in general), where even if weaker characters don't manage to make it to semi-finals, it's still possible for them to advance. This just reminds me of how much I'd bombard ASW with my sig if I had slightly less restraint. -

I unfortunately can't find the article with Ishiwatari's comments, but if Jyosua's archive is still up, the interview with Mori should be freely viewable (and keep in mind that there is some overlap between Team BB and Team Red). I would argue that a diverse/varied cast is meaningless in a game where only a handful of characters actually do that well (BBCP and a few other recent games are perfect examples of this). However, 4-6 being the worst MUs is indeed an agreeable outcome, realistically. Gaps in competitive games are unavoidable, but ASW's problem has always been the sheer size of those gaps. I would say it's less that GG is in and of itself balanced, and more that it's simultaneously more rewarding of good play and more harsh on player failures than most other games. Even weak characters, like Potemkin currently is, can capitalize off of hits and knockdowns in ways characters in other games struggle to, and for potentially higher rewards at that. Basically, in terms of character balance, GG has always been busted (and Xrd will turn out no differently), it just compensates for that by having a metagame that rewards player skill to a greater extent than many other games do. -

I have consistently seen Japanese developers lie in one way or another. Whether or not it's intentional is another matter, but regardless of how upfront they may seem, you should always take more of a wait-and-see approach. Dunno what you mean by "vigilante," but Ishiwatari has been on record as not considering character balance a high priority; to paraphrase his views, he thinks that as long as there aren't 8-2 matchups, it doesn't really matter. And Mori further affirmed that this is a general attitude within the company in his SCR Q&A. -

>Implying ASW actually cares about balance. Anyway, whatever Ishiwatari said can be disregarded, since Japanese creators are notorious liars whose words should never be taken at face value.
