Frosty Faustings III (GGXXAC, SSFIV, and more!) Chicago IL. Jan 8th 2011
Vyers replied to ElvenShadow's topic in Archive
I won't be able to make it. Boss is complaining about too much vacation time (NEC) and sick time (raped by the flu Christmas week). I also heard that a very good friend of mine, Andy, the man who used to own and operate TGA, is coming back to America for a visit the same weekend; if I am able to get any time off I want to meet up with him. Anyway Kudos to ElvenShadow for running this tourney for the third year straight, I hope everyone attending has an excellent time -

I don't know about 360 to PS2 converters, but you can usually find someone willing to lend their stick to a fellow player (I lent mine to about 6 different people at NEC) edit: Looks like Mike beat me to the punch here. -

Thanks. Tickets are mad cheap ($154 round trip); I can definitely afford to come; I'll talk to my boss this week to try to get the time off (always tricky after taking a weekend off in December for NEC). Also good luck in the Johnny-O Cup qualifiers:) -
Lots of Faust players in this tournament: you, NerdJosh, Mr. Quotes, Gentstove. Surprisingly I didn't see any Sols the whole tournament (although Faulty D was playing him in Sunday casuals)

Once again you can put me down as a maybe (hopefully I actually make it down this time). Which airport is closest to this venue? -

Yo good games Leo, don't get yourself down, you weren't free, free means people can beat you on autopilot and I had to play carefully to beat you (I was the Baiken). I'd like to play you again sometime Toronto's 10 or 11 hours away from me, I might be able to swing by Lovegetty someday, gotta get my passport first though:) I posted this in my NEC shoutouts, but Genstove I have your mp3 radio transmitter. Also somebody left a PS2 to usb converter in our room (634). edit: FROSTY FAUSTINGS III January 8th! http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?10684-Frosty-Faustings-III-%28GGXXAC-SSFIV-and-more!%29-Chicago-IL.-Jan-8th-2011 -
Good Games man, I was glad to get some more Millia experience (I learned not to use 6p for AA if Millia has her pin). We'll get some more games in soon I'm sure.

I felt so sad after how I played at Seasons Beatings that I barely played GG between then and NEC. The combination of this tourney being fucking awesome, with the support and advice many players gave me has lit my inner fire once more. A3Religion: Thanks for the support, you're always pushing me to level up. I will go over the footsies hand book again in detail. Your Johnny is more godlike every time I see you play, but I'm gonna learn this match up right and get my money back next time we play. From now on I'm gonna bring a notepad to tourneys to write down everything I learn. I learned from you that I have to stop jumping in so much and improve my footsies, to stop eating AA 5k/6p/coin/mist finer, all day. You reversal Johnny Special too much. Frank The Tank: Thanks for beating my ass down in our MM/ casuals. It's always a pleasure to play you, and I always learn several ways to improve my game. I will practice blocking May dust mix up properly, undoing my muscle memory to youshijining your j.h (I'll only get a counter hit if you make contact at a good height which you rarely do), using Ouren occasionally on non JCable moves, not using TK Youzansen without 50% meter, blocking, and I will study the Japanese to find more ways to vary my game and improve my play style. Congrats third place singles/ first place teams. Titanium Beast: Thanks also for beating my ass down in casuals. Yes I do need to calm down and block more, yes I do need stop throwing out Youshijin against j.p (only works if you're going for mashy punch and it hits during the start up of the attack after the block, way to risky), playing a ground poking game vs you is hard cause you know the 5s sweet spot better than I do. Congrats on taking teams Faulty Defense: Your Venom was much better this weekend than it was when I first played you in FR last year, and your Sol is nothing to sneeze at. You were doing consistently better against me the more we played; eventually you had me completely downloaded and I couldn't even touch you. I've learned that Venom's 2s is very good, and that I can't block Venom for shit (tiger knee force break throws me for a loop). I'm going to try to learn Venom as an alternate to force myself to block better. Good shit man and congrats on taking teams. Alzarath: Need to watch out for your burst baits, that hurt a lot. Mynus: You need to learn how to fight Baiken, and I need to learn how to block I-no. Next tournament that we both attend lets get some casuals in. Guard cancels fuck you up hard; you need to learn to bait them or at least poke with safer moves; don't use j.H air to ground, J.h equals free Youshijin/ Sakura/ Baku counter hit for me. If I played any other character you would seriously fuck me up, because the few times I tried to actually sit back and block, you raped me with your godlike mixups. Remember that Baiken can't guard cancel throws, Baikens are made for throwing. Sogos: Why are you afraid of Baiken? Slayer rapes Baiken imo, especially my Baiken since I can't handle your 5 way mixups. Slayer has godlike AA, godlike damage, godlike mixups, and access to the most godlike punish when he has 50%. Shake off the rust man and you'll only need 1.5 combos to kill me (at the most). DaiAndOh: Good shit in casuals. You did a much better job keeping me out. Tales: You're much better than people give you credit for. Good shit with that ocv. keep improving. If you want to see how Anji can beat Baiken up watch any match between me and Zidane (I'll see if I can find one for you). Kona: We finally played some games, we should play more next time. Bridget is hard to catch. NoiseTank: like I said on the way home. Vary your pokes/ mix ups more, don't use greed sever, cross up with j.d/ spark force break, X-Copy Steve H, and watch Japanese Kys play. Thanks for recording all those matches and casuals, you should post those up here once you've uploaded them. Thanks for coming down with me 9 hour solo drives suck. Stryfe: It was good to have you for the ride down and back, Your I-no could benefit from more air throws (not just hover dash air throws, a well placed jumping air throw can beat out May j.h). Sorry if I seemed kind of anti social at times, I'm not very outgoing and often find it difficult to start/jump into a conversation. If you can get your bro to come to more tourneys I'll do my best to teach him Baiken. Team Canada: Good shit in teams you're Robo Ky (Zeero I think) OCV'd me/Nazgul/Mindgam3. I had a great time playing you all in casuals Sunday. I'll get my passport so I can visit you all at Lovegetty sometime. (I havn't been to a legit arcade since TGA closed down several years ago) Mindgam3: You were doing great against A3 until you fell under pressure that last round. Don't let it get you down. Your combos aren't all there yet, but you have gotten more consistent Genstov: You left your radio transmitter in the room. I will return it to you when we next meet. You got me with the meteors a few times, I hadn't realized that you can't run away from them until they start raining down. Nazgul: Once again you did the best out of NE good shit you were close to top 8. maybe we can do a TrapGunner tourney sometime. Somebody left an ELECOM PS2 to USB converter in our room (634) It's silver/ silver translucent colored. If this is yours drop me a pm so I can get it back to you. edit: Eric thanks for hosting NEC it was a blast as always. St!icKBuG/ DoomieJ thanks for running shit, you guys ran GG very well. doragonkoroshi: I'm glad you were able to make it out to the east coast. I would've said hello and played some games with you, but I didn't see you around, sorry. I hope you had a good time man. Kyle: Also glad you made it out here; also should have pushed buttons with you. We'll get some games in one of these days.

Well I wanted to be sure you could make it before I name names. I talked to Mindgam3 right before I heard about the car, and he can most likely make it Monday. Cool. -

I'm going to head down for Boston to meet up with NoiseTank, Asian Dave, and some other GGAC players next week either Monday Evening or Tuesday afternoon (Was planning on Monday originally, but I might have the opportunity to look at a car that day). Would you be interested in tagging along Capsuletoyco? -
Yep you crushed me completely. vs SH ft2 $10 BA mirror. I lose 1-2 vs A3Religion ft3 $10. I lose 3-0 (Did you get way better, or did I level down?) vs MacArthur Blunts ft2 $10. You declined cause you were low on cash. Judging from our casuals you would have most likely won. I have trouble hearing over the noise in most venues, but more so than usual at SB, probably cause I was sick. The thing A3 was talking about is the footsies handbook at sonichurricane.com: http://sonichurricane.com/?page_id=1702 I'm going to read this myself, try to break down that wall. edit: NerdJosh/blueNINE thanks for teaming with me, sorry for being deadweight

In my experience Expedia is the cheapest ticket site, look there first. Also prices fluctuate, but once you get within 3 weeks of your fly date they only go up.

I was all excited to play you guys too. Hopefully I'll see you both in December. Since we have the GG area to ourselves for all of Saturday we'll probably do 3v3 shortly after we finish singles (or get to top 4/ whatever if we want to get that on the stream Sunday). I'm still up for running teams, unless Zinac wants to. Also, are you still interested in teaming up with me? At Ghaleon: I hope my advice was of some use to you. I'm bringing a PS2/ copy of Accent Core for tournament use. At Zinac: Thanks for stepping up to run singles man. I'll be glad to help shout out names and hunt down players (and do anything else to make things easier). Would you want to run teams as well? If not I volunteer. Also were you interested in that money match? It's cool if you're not. In either case we should get some casuals in.

It's unfortunate that your team wasn't picked for the last chance qualifier, 8 teams just isn't enough. Nice job sneaking into the last chance competitor area though, you must of had the best view of any spectator. It sounds like you had a good time with your Nagoya trip minus missing your bus. What flavor are those Fujiya Home Pies you won? As for what Patchi said about the chances of a new Guilty Gear... if they do end up making a new Guilty Gear I think they'd have to do some changes to differentiate it, I mean I'll probably continue to play AC regardless of whether I play the new one or not (Accent Core is so good I'm not sure they could really make XX even better), so taking out frcs and slashback might work if they add some new features, and change some existing ones. 2.5D graphics would make me sad though (I love my sprites). GGAC on PS3 would be great, but if the higher ups won't go for it then:( In the mean time we'll continue our efforts to revive the US scene. Seasons Beatings is Looking hype!

Ghaleon: I dropped you a pm about tournament runners, and the team tourney. Friday won't work for me unfortunately, because my flight doesn't get in till 10:30 PM, that's really too late for anything but casuals (I could have skipped my Friday classes, but my later one is pretty harsh on attendance so I opted to take a later flight that would allow me to at least show up for the beginning of that class). Sunday's another possibility, but I'm not sure if anyone was planning to leave early on Sunday. Playing in multiple tournaments at the same to can be stressful, but I can help prevent you from being DQ'd in Guilty at least. GGAC team tourneys are nearly always run 3v3, and I think everyone who's voiced a preference in this thread wanted 3v3, so unless we get some players posting in favor of 2v2 we'll probably just go with 3v3. It's cool if you two don't want to MM. We can still get some casuals in though. Also thanks for the praise. I figured the best way to get things running smoothly is to figure out how and when things will go down beforehand; it's not very often people call me a great player so thanks for that. Vyers MONEY MATCHES: Senkei: FT3 $10 A3Religion FT3 $10 SH: FT3 $10 MacArthurBlunts FT2 $10 Hellmonkey FT3 $10 Zinac ??? Frank The Tank ???
