Chrono Phantasma Speculations/Theories [rules updated 10/14]

Wait a minute, if all you need to make a Black Beast is a Murakumo and an Azure, why was Hazama hellbent on becoming one with Noel (Mu-12)? Couldn't he have just, I dunno, used a more obedient Murakumo for that purpose? Like say, Nu-13? Not like it'd be hard to get her to cooperate either. Sure, he'd have had to wait a bit longer for her tampering to be complete but it's not like time is a massive concern to him. Or if the 13th unit is not an option, just salvage Lamb-chops and use her. What makes, at the time, not-Azure Successor Noel the better option when she already refused to help the man she knew screwed her family over? -
Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold Story Thread (spoilers)

has been confirmed to be a mistranslation. Here's a better translation of what PerShoNa says regarding : Oh well, so it would seem Adachi is an unknown element for now in P4U2. And I kinda like it that way. Guess we will simply need to wait it out to hear the full story regarding him. -
Alright after burning through as much match footage as I could find, I gotta ask: why is Chie of all characters suddenly so underused? I mean, I can understand players not bothering with characters like Lizzie (much to my dismay), but Chie is still plenty good last I heard. It isn't like she got the Makoto treatment from ASW or anything, yet it seems wherever I look, someone is riding on Yu, Aigis, Teddie and Kanji bandwagons. Though the last one I can forgive since Kanji is fun and needs more player love anyway.
-
Maybe it's just me, but from the PerShoNa footage I've seen, SP management is of little concern for him. He doesn't seem to really need SP all that much for damage and outside of throwing SB Survival Knives from time to time. Barring that, maybe the SP Drain is just miniscule compared to the HP Drain like you said.
-
Huh, that's pretty cool. I was honestly not expecting a change from the original anime, but it is good to hear that they are bumping up the quality a bit now that they are not restricted to a weekly schedule.
-
And I am not exactly happy with that myself. Hearing Patrick Seitz swear up a storm is one of the few joys I got out of watching ENG Ragna. It was just so excessive that it was actually funny. Why ASW decided to patch it so it only happens with Hazama I'll never know. And I agree that him not having those quotes against Terumi is an odd choice. You could argue that he never personally met Terumi in the story, but the intro clearly shows Ragna hates his guts. So the choice to omit the quotes is kinda odd. Oh well, at least Ragna still has his "Get off my shit" line which is awesome on its own.

Personally I'm all for this. It's a decent way to raise the hype levels for the game. As for the new character, it can be Minato Arisato/Makoto Yuuki since the recent P3 movie did rather well in theaters and it'd serve as a way to promote them with this game. Plus it'd be kinda nice to finally be done with "What's his canon name" debate. Of course, it could also be someone completely different, but the P3MC is one of the more popular characters and since we are not including P1 or P2 cast members, he's about the only logical conclusion unless we're somehow reviving Shinjiro or something.

In case you were referring to me: I didn't call her bad though. I only said that even though she got some better tools, most other characters can still leave her in the dust. Yes, footage of her is a lot lower in comparison to the others, but what is available is evidence enough to support my claim. At least for now. That's one way to look at it. But it is a fact that Lizzie's damage is lower than it was in P4A, which was one of her few benefits in that game. Now, she gets out-damaged by characters like Yu for a lot less work (read: easier) so there's that. I'm not saying you're wrong though.
-
She did. It's just that everyone else outclasses her still even with her new buffs. Her damage output is also lower now so that might be another reason why.

Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold Story Thread (spoilers)

It depends on how they use it. CP's 3 side paths all converging into one final showdown could work. CP had to drop a lot character focus since you could no longer play as the villains and had a lot more characters than P4A. Of course, we will just have to wait and see what they do in the end. -
I'd say the lack of Shadow character footage is simply because people are not yet used to it. One thing I noticed with a lot of JPN players is that, as long as they are playing with their yen on the line, they are going to gravitate towards the easier and less changed versions of the characters available. Of course, this is simply an observation made from the footage available and those only cover a fraction of the players available out there. And I guess, on paper, Shadow versions are not exactly great. -20% less damage. -No Burst. -Can't awaken. -Need to blow all their meter (Shadow Rampage) to match the damage of their originals.

Chrono Phantasma Speculations/Theories [rules updated 10/14]

Translation: "Mori-san has not yet figured out what he wants to do with the tyke. Please wait for BB4 where he may or may not actually do anything of import". -
Ah right, I see it now. I must have confused it since S.Akihiko did his parry thing and mistook it as though PerShona's IK had a guard point. Oh well, still looks boss.
-
I have the weirdest boner right now . Very, very nice. We get the Haku-men counter, Ragna's color and feel with Terumi's mad-hammy acting and mercilessness. Color me impressed.
-
I'd say it's more of a trade-off between the two in that case. Sho has more options with his specials, while PerShona gains more tools via Tsukiyomi. Whether one is better than the other remains to be seen. So, no word on PerShona's IK?
-
Neat. Is there a particular benefit to making them Rekka instead of just regular specials? Or is it that they simply decided to make them into Rekka with simpler inputs to them for the sake of differentiation?
-
To be fair to the JPN Lizzie players, the character herself has a really "weird" playstyle. I mean, I played the hell out of her and enjoyed every minute, but if you were to ask me to classify her playstyle I'd be drawing a blank. Maybe it is the same for them, especially now that she's received an overhaul in the new system. I'd wager to guess that people are still adjusting to it and since not many seem to even want to play her competitively, it is taking longer than for say someone like Yu.
-
Huh, I just noticed that PerShona's Survival Knife special isn't a [4]6 charge motion. Instead it is a 236A/B one. That ought to make things easier I guess, since I really kinda suck at charge moves.
-
Over my dead body. I played Lizzie as the gimmicky character she always was in P4A and I don't plan on abandoning her now, crap damage or not. I'll just make sure to become an expert at landing SB Ghastly Wails and dodge the hell out of everything instead. The only way you're going to get me to abandon Lizzie at this point, is if ASW announces Makoto(P3MC) as the newest addition to the cast and even then, she'd only be delegated to sub-status. But for now, I think I'll wait until I see just how bad/hard it is for her to be competitive. Game is still young and who knows, a future update may make her even better.

I'd say it's more for story reasons than anything. Lizzie and other Velvet Room residents aren't what you'd call human. They are capable of levitation, incredible feats of strength (such as lifting a colossal abomination with one hand), can survive in the vacuum of space without needing to breathe and are at the very least, not affected by the same concepts of time if Lizzie is to be taken as an example. They look human, but they are definitely not so maybe that's simply why they don't have shadows. Alternatively, it could be like what Teddie mentioned about Nanako, about how she can't have a shadow since she's still so young and innocent. Perhaps a similar point is made for the Velvet Residents, who are still questioning their existence. If however, you'd want a gameplay explanation for Lizzie specifically I can think of 2 points: 1. It'd remove the usefulness of Mind Charge and the Awakening properties on her moves since shadow versions don't get to awaken. 2. She has her old 5AAA as a 5BBB so there is no reason to have a shadow version in that regard as Lizzie remains virtually unchanged. EDIT: Rayzor also raises an interesting point. Imagine Lizzie with Shadow Rampage on and the fact that she gains SP automatically. Then combine it with the SP carryover between rounds and...yeah, kind of a scary thought.

This. I learned this little truth back in high-school. Just because a character has a sympathetic backstory, that does not make the character themselves or their actions sympathetic. And Nu-13, she's definitely not sympathetic. Sure she might have had pretty pissy life (which I also question since she was "born" during CT while it was only Lambda shown that was tortured) but that does not excuse or justify being a gleeful little sociopath, impaling everyone with a pulse. We give Ragna flak for murdering the NOL canon fodder even though his backstory is probably the most sympathetic, so what excuses Nu-13? A pair of tits and an ahoge? And there goes my funny bone into overdrive. Dammit SD, you always know how to make me bust a gut XD.
-
More like begging for a complete overhaul and remake. While I do enjoy Alter Memory for what it is, I feel like a lot of things went wrong with it. Chiefly, cramming both CT and CS in 12 episodes. Some parts were a definite plus, like Ragna interacting with Lambda-11 but overall, the anime could have been a lot better planned and executed.
-
Only characters I have any sympathy for (or feel anything for anyway) are Ragna, Makoto, Taokaka and Noel/Mu-12. All others, as far as I am concerned, can go get stung by many hornets. Followed by being burned to a crisp. Then tarred and feathered before finally being sold to KFC as their new mascots for a $1.50 collectively. TL;DR Yeah, most BB characters don't evoke any kind of sympathy from me. Especially not in Alter Memory where most of them are cut and reduced to mere cameos here and there.
-
Yeah you're right, my bad. I shouldn't have made it sound like she isn't viable. And you're right, we really don't have a lot of people playing her at a higher level. I just kinda wish those kinds of players would show up a bit sooner, y'know? It's getting a bit too much when all I ever seem to see is Yu, Aigis, Yosuke and...Teddie.
-
"The good news is: Ragna Gravity Squeezed Devoured by Darkness'd Terumi's ass". "The bad news is: someone had to die for that to happen". "But the good news is: it was Lambda-11/Nu-13. So nobody cares". Alright, I'll be frank: episode felt the most rushed thing ever. But I guess I wouldn't be out here if I didn't like it. And you know, the death scene was pretty good. Too bad it is going to be rendered moot soon enough story-wise but hey, when something is done nicely, you give its due credit. It's a shame the studio decided to cram both CT and CS in 12 episodes. Had they done it with 18~24, then they could have taken the time to polish it up and make it work easier. Oh well, just a bit more to go.
