  1. This article is bad. If you took each sentence separately then there are stuff that I can "agree" with but then he explains what he means and it's just bad reasoning and/or double standards. Also he doesn't have much general knowledge of the genre, which leads to wrong assumptions. I'm not going to bother calling out all the crap in the article but I will respond to the opening post- While comeback mechanics are horrible horrible horrible, overdrives are not as destructive to the game as you make them sound. Would BBCP be a better game without them? Yes. Is BBCP completely ruined because of their existence? Absolutely not. Maybe I'm not up to date but the way I see it, there are 3 tiers to overdrive bullshitness: The first tier is "pretty much useless" tier, and some character are "solid" or even "great" while only using their gauges as bursts, like Nu or Relius. Which only shows that ODs are not THAT much of a factor in the bigger picture. The second tier is "only extends combos" tier, in which case in order to measure the bullshit, you need to reduce the damage a full life overdrive combo does compared to the low life one. (Off of the same starter using the same amount of super meter) Only the difference is the actual "reward for getting hit" part. And the last is "Fuck Litchi" tier, which is at least just one character out of the whole cast. :\
  2. IMO super moves are dumb. It's not really a mechanic even! I mean it's just a bigger move with some very useful properties that also has balancing factor in the form of costing resources, limiting the access to it in a match. Oh wait...

  7. Yeah that's completely nitpicking, since we never mentioned number notations in the audio, just in visuals. There's no reason for a "four" to be mentioned so there should be no confusion.
  8. The less info you clutter someone's brain with, the better he'll remember what you wanted to say the most. I tend to avoid talking about "combo only" moves unless I really feel they need to be mentioned, like Sol's Sidewinder. I also tend to avoid talking about moves that may be useful in very specific matchups, but GENERALLY are not used much.
  9. This thread is from 3 years ago, and I'd like to re-tackle this whole thing from the more refined points of view I have now. Give me a few months.

  11. I was just talking about his "scary offense", that's all. Of course you can have an great overall character because of other aspects.
  12. Guts is not a comeback mechanic, since it doesn't actually add extra tools and options to the character. I'd call it a "survive a bit longer" mechanic and not a "make comebacks with it" mechanic. Instant Kills can be done at any point of the match without needing to get beaten first, and are useless outside of an anti-A.B.A tactic which the designers carefully planned when they tweaked the character so they don't count either.
  13. 10 pages in and a lot of the responses in the thread are of the "this is out of our control" kind, and more importantly, almost no one has actually addressed the issue I raised. I still think that more accessible information plays a bigger role than you'd might think, and this factor, unlike many others, IS in our control. And no one has proven that it ISN'T going to have a noticeable positive effect, so why not give it a shot?

The less work I have to invest in it, the better. Making the series itself is time consuming enough as it is and I really cannot afford to make the workload even bigger. Edit: And during the opening music add something like "Translated to Spanish by X. The creators of the series do not take any responsibility over the translation." Because, well, we really don't, lol.
  15. This presents several problems though: 1. It clutters the screen and makes the videos annoying to watch for people who don't need it. (the majority) 2. It will be a lot of extra work to adjust the timing of the subtitles. (I've done subtitles before so I know how long it takes) 3. Since I don't speak Spanish I can't really know the content of the translation, which is crucial because I chose my words very carefully in the scripts. (Especially after the Anji drama lol)
  16. I'm saving the new characters for last, that's all there is to it. Random googling says 1.11's release date was april 10th so I guess only vids from that date are a valid source regarding Kliff. Lofobal and I wrote the script together.
  17. Beating someone with his own main character, which you don't really main yourself, is like a kick in the balls so I advise you stop doing it. And maybe look at WHY he's losing and give him advice based on that... Maybe sit together to watch some high level footage and help him understand what the better players of his character do and why. He'll surely have some success if he x-copies them.
  18. Frankly I don't see it happening. The more you analyze Testament's new stuff the more you see how limited it is. It just *looks* scary but at the end of the day it's either full of holes or cost him meter to keep applying. It's competent, sure, but really nothing out of the ordinary compared to other characters' average pressure/mixup ability. He still has his solid neutral game/space control though.

  20. All I need right now is to wait for the last 3 scripts in the works and then the hardest part of the series will be over.
  21. With Bridget IMO the biggest "problem" is to have the right "mentality" i.e. see the game from a "Bridget-esque" point of view. You may not have raw damage and okizeme but the character can have superior spacing, which is a harder advantage to make use of.
