Digital Watches Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Wait, when did GG start having impossible-to-win match-ups like 8:2? Let's be clear here: I don't believe 8:2, but you have to admit it looks pretty bad when you see it played. And now I guess I can say I've seen a few matches with Zappa losing, even, but I still think if that Zappa had blocked a bit more and tried uppercuts at weird places less, JO wouldn't have stood a chance.
Shining Aquas Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Yeah, I don't think GG ever gets any worse than 7:3. And there's only a couple of small instances of that (Look up Anji vs Axl, May vs I-no, etc)
Digital Watches Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I'd say you could probably safely call Za-Jo part of that category as well.
Zerite Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Wait, when did GG start having impossible-to-win match-ups like 8:2? When Accident Core came out.
Shining Aquas Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 noone mentioned br v po yet I thought we were talking about AC, not #R
solidshake Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 if anyone thinks AC has an 8:2, they need to be playing pong
Mahouko Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 i agree with that. I have to say though Accent core is pretty balanced. Except for maybe Eddie. But no one really uses him
bucklemyshoe Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 May vs I-No is an 8:2 and for me personally, Johnny vs I-No is like an 8:2
Digital Watches Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Everyone thinks May v. (Insert character) is 8-2. That's bullshit. She does a ton of damage, get over it.
WUT Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Everyone thinks May v. (Insert character) is 8-2. That's bullshit. She does a ton of damage, get over it. While not 8:2, May does have some over-the-top advantages (I-no, Anji). Of course, then you get to ABA vs. May, where it's the complete opposite. Some of the best match-ups and some of the hardest.
whytesakura Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 may does have retarded advantages of i-no and anji. i personally don't do too bad in the may fight but that shit is scary when you add in: damage dizzy damage she flat out beats most of their stuff not to mention the risk of trying to hit her/lock her down and getting counter hit is pretty damn gay
Klaige Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Everyone thinks May v. (Insert character) is 8-2. That's bullshit. She does a ton of damage, get over it. So just because some people know they have an extremely difficult matchup you assume they're crying over big damage? Sound logic there. May Vs I-no and Anji are matchups that border on 8-2. It goes far and away beyond the damage she can do, and has much more to do with the fact that may has basic setups and decisions that completely shut down their entire game. Speaking from experience I know that Anji almost has to get lucky in this fight, or the may has to be playing overly risky and make a rather dumb mistake. At any given time may can place hoop and stand under it, Anji has no response to this, I mean none, zero, his options all get stuffed by 5H, or by block and the oncoming punish. She also does a very good job at shutting down one of his strengths, which is the air game. J.H for anji like most characters is really hard to deal with. J.D can beat it positionally but the risk reward is retardedly in may's favor. If may hits one combo in this match and gets a life lead she's free to sit back and watch anji struggle to come in. The same does not hold true for Anji, who has to commit to his offense and stay on top of may with no mistakes to take the round. I know everyone want's to pretend AC is this perfect world game where no over the top matchups exist, but anyone who says that is fooling themselves, because they haven't played every matchup at a high level. I'll admit some matchups get blown out of proportion because they require such a different approach that at first it seems like it's an 8-2 or 9-1 uphill battle (Anji Vs. jam is a perfect example of this). But you are fooling yourself if you think there aren't matchups that border between 7-3 and 8-2 in this game.
Killerwatt Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 May vs I-No is an 8:2 and for me personally, Johnny vs I-No is like an 8:2 Out of curiosity, what JO players are you fighting against that makes this matchup so bad for I-no? I may not be that great a JO but the few I-nos I've fought certainly have no problem making me eat mixups into long ass combos all day. I have noticed though, that out of those few I-nos I've fought, I never lost a match to them, only a round here and there.
Shining Aquas Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I know Anji vs May is supposed to be this battle that simulates a human versus an ant, but I still think it doesn't ever get as bad as 8:2. I would vote 7:3, knowing full well that some would disagree with me on that. May sucks and so much of her crap shuts you down all over the place, but Anji can still win playing his game (albeit a lot more cautiously than normal, but it's still his game). Playing against May to me feels a lot like playing against Baiken, it feels horribly against you at first but as you fight the matchup you begin to find strategies and plans for dealing with the bullshit. Granted, it's always a disadvantage fighting May, that probably will never change (at least until the next GG game where there's a chance), but to put it in a position that it sounds utterly nonwinnable seems a little bogus to me.
whytesakura Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 May vs I-No is an 8:2 and for me personally, Johnny vs I-No is like an 8:2 if johnny exploits his normals and i-no exploits her specials. its even. nothing scary about johnny. just have to look out for 6k's under your hcl. and noting within range of his normals. the whole fight you are pretty much trying to get that hcl knockdown which isn't too hard because he's tall as shit.

I'm not saying it's unwinnable...but im saying the may has to commit to a style of impatience and mistakes to give Anji the opening. Is it a gauranteed 8-2, probably not....but it's not too far from it. May's only reason to give Anji a chance in this fight is a lack of patience.
Mooshi-Q Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 While not 8:2, May does have some over-the-top advantages (I-no, Anji). Of course, then you get to ABA vs. May, where it's the complete opposite. ABA is supposed to have a 7:3 advantage on May? That sounds like a bit much.
WUT Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 ABA is supposed to have a 7:3 advantage on May? That sounds like a bit much. Moroha mode > May. 5S(f) stuffs everything on the ground, and 2S beats May in the air (ABA is one of the few characters who can consistently AA May's j.HS with little risk to herself). ABA's options once she gets into Moroha mode dominate May. Simple as that.

ABA has a lot of moves that stuff shit, and gets to AA a lot of bullshit... against any character. You have to play defensively when she's in Moroha =/= 7-3 matchup.
Moroha Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Frank Tank and I talked about it, thinking 6/4. ABA does trump May on the ground and has Danzai/2S for anti-air, but 2S can still be baited / punished, Danzai can be crossed up for confusion / j.2H can land and recover if the Danzai wasn't early enough, and everyone knows what one knockdown can do to ABA. May can't go around throwing many hit/block dolphins and needs to have some solid moves/smart approaches with the j.2H. It's no Potemkin v Testament, but ABA does have all the tools to shut down May in Moroha mode.
Klaige Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 mohora mode is cheap, but drunk mohora is the CHEAPEST!!! Evo proved this, holy shit!
Moroha Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I would say May / ABA is roughly 11/-1 in ABA's favor when I've got that tequila assist. Also reversal Danzai is very chancey against May; she gets 3K on block or OHK on slashback, and if you're in the corner and may does 5K oki, she can JC into a 2H or block danzai punish for free.

It is may... she'll always have a decent chance unless aba's hitbox ruins like every combo she has Moroha I would have liked to play you at evo :\ I didn't play any GG outside of tourney though.
