Nini Heart Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 LK, I have a few questions. 1. Is it normal for me to have a side on which i'm better at doing combos or is that something that's inherent to playing pad? 2. Do you think Hazama gives Litchi a hard(er?) time? 3. Why the handle Lord Knight? 4. How do I beat you?
Lord Knight Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 Compared to Axis's Tager, how do I do against you? Am I more random? Less structured? Worse at defense? Too risky? I feel like you're more random, more prone to take risks. This has its upsides and downsides. Axis has better structure which helps with his pressure, but like I said before, he's not random enough. I don't think Tager can win consistently without dice rolling (that's why I don't touch him :/). LK, do you think BB is too slow? It's got a lot of space to move around, so that can limit the number of confrontations. Game speed is also very much apparent when comparing how long combos take vs. say, MvC3. Or do you think it's mostly fine as of CS2? The games speed is fine. Some matchups will always be slower than others. LK what do you do after you've come off of a long break from BB? More specifically, what do you do to get back to your original skill? (Do you jump back into the community immediately, or do you just train solo for a while?) The best answer is just to play, imo. You'll be surprised how quickly you can get your muscle memory back. BB is slow? slower than MBAA..yes... :v anyway, LK, among ur recorded match on youtube using litchi, which one displays a good material to learn? I've seen some, but I wanna know which do you think is a good one Well, any of them besides early CS and CT is fine, I'd say. LK, I have a few questions. 1. Is it normal for me to have a side on which i'm better at doing combos or is that something that's inherent to playing pad? 2. Do you think Hazama gives Litchi a hard(er?) time? 3. Why the handle Lord Knight? 4. How do I beat you? 1) Perfectly normal. I'm still better at half circles facing to the right, but since I know that, I make sure I really focus when I'm facing to the left. Obviously, it's important to grind combos facing both sides. 2) Only if the Litchi player has a weak neutral game. It feels like it should be hard for Litchi, but after grinding the matchup out, it's definitely in her advantage. 3) Sigurd is the main character of Fire Emblem Seisen no Keifu, and he's manly as fuck. Unfortunately someone already had "Sigurd" as a handle on smashboards. . . so I used Lord Knight (his class) instead. 4) Dunno, never played myself . Really though, Makoto is good at touch of death, so a strong neutral game can supplement this. Your execution is pretty on point already, so beefing your neutral play along with pressure will make you stronger.
ATG Warlord Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 what do you think of my Valk Lk, any areas where I should focus on?
LunaKage Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 LK, what do you think of my Noel? Other than the fact that I suck.
bbq sauce Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) LK, what do you think of my Virgillia? :3 Edited February 12, 2011 by bbq sauce
TD Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 lk has become quite the advice giving man, hasn't he. ^_^ lk, how l life?
GenoWhirl Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 There may be players known for the skill, players known for their vids, players known for being Zidane or Dacidbro... But LK is a player loved by all. LK, how do I become less cheesy?
TD Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) i can answer that for you lol, you are right though. like one of those leaders everyone looks up to as opposed to just tolerating because said leader is a mod. lolol! Edited February 12, 2011 by TD
jiyuna Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Why are Americans so weak at anime games? Japan is obviously superior in every fighting game except Mahvel, but why is the gap so huge with anime games? Is it because US players are too busy posting on shitty forums and jerking off over forum awards instead of practicing? 教えて、LORDKNIGHT!

You make a compelling point, asking a top player for gameplay advice will not at all help strengthen the individual players or the community as a whole.

I would try to give you a real reply for your questions and why it isn't a "fair" comparison, but it's obvious that's not what you're looking for. But using a real sports example: I almost look at it like American Soccer vs. European/South American Soccer(Football). It's almost the exact same situation when you really think about it. It'll be funny to see how LK answers them since he has answered every question in a "serious" manner, even when they aren't even serious questions.

BB/MB/GG, all anime games, so America sucks. Marvel, graphic novel game, so America is good. Notice how America sucked with the anime characters (Ken, Ryu) but good with the comic book characters (Magneto etc). If there were American characters in anime games, I think we could compete.
Koopa_Klawz Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 hey LK why is it that one day i'm able to do shit (like being able to comboes, punish, and read opponents well) yet the next day i end up getting blown up. i do almost the same amount of practice with excecution and blocking each time i get play yet it just disappears.

LuminAbyss Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) people have off days... i think i'm on an off week lol This. The way I see it, sometimes it helps taking a break. Like, if you keep going, you tend to get aggravated because you aren't doing as well as you normally do. I find just not playing for a little bit helps, and you can go back to the game with more confidence and energy. Edited February 13, 2011 by LuminAbyss
OmniSScythe Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Hey LK, what's your take on rather or not it's necessary to use an arcade stick for BB. My use of gaming peripherals generally switch from using either a D-pad, Analog or Arcade stick[bat top] with some mixture of the 3 (and keyboard for Melty/Mugen). But at this point I believe it's only preferences that decides in the end, plus trying to get used to Ball top is killing me.
Dacidbro Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 people have off days... i think i'm on an off week lol I would contest that the best players very, very rarely have off days. If you can't control the level at which you play, you'll have difficulty showing up to tournaments strongly. The more circumstantial problems you have to overcome in a single tournament day, the more likely it is something will be able to throw off your game. Instead, Koopa, I would offer that you should find a way to focus your ability. I've personally found that pretending to be mad (lol) lets me play really, really well, whenever I want to, and tap into adrenaline better.
A.X.I.S. Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I would suggest taking a break koopa, I didn't touch BB for almost a week and everything was better for me, I even got rid of bad habits from doing it. Playing the game too much will overload you.

Never give up .. it's very tempting to go back to pad once you lose to people you could beat or stand a chance against with pad but yeah never give up. I'm a lot better now and still improving .. one day I'll reach my level with pad lol
TD Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 l took a day oof and the next day was just gdlk. as said, find a way to help you focus. hmm, l should be doing the same thing... lt seems l do better when l commentate my own matches. or, maybe handstands... *retreats to lab*

I'm a lot better now and still improving .. one day I'll reach my level with pad lol Losing isn't the reason I'm asking though my overall movement and reaction seems boned, personally I feel like using arcade stick isn't necessary to be competent. BB is just one of those game where I'm just fine on Analog, where with Marvel and 3S/CvS2 I crave an arcade stick but a controller is fine too.
FlyingVe Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 In my opinion, BB was designed so that most characters don't require extreme execution or finger gymnastics, so you could probably play just fine on a pad. That said, I still think the stick is superior is basically all regards, just not a necessity.
A.X.I.S. Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Stick doesn't have input lag from what I noticed. I touched pad and moved around recently. It felt slow, it felt like all my movements was half assed, I wanted to die if I am ever forced to do it again.
