No problem, since its a PS3 stick, there are no after market custom boards right now that will deal with modding straight from ps3 to 360.

You'd have to dig for a common ground circuit board for the xbox, like the easily accessible madcatz brawlpad.

The bare basics of a dual mod is as follows

1) Make sure your boards are common ground

2) Link the power and ground between both boards as both boards must be powered at ALL times regardless of what system is working

3) Link all the signals together

4) For a PS3/360 mod using the same USB cables, have a dpdt or any form of switch to toggle between the D+ and D- data lines between the two boards

As for specifics, I don't have a V3 SA board with me, but i do remember that one side of all the face button connectors is ground, and one is power. Use a multimeter with a connectivity function to tell which is which.

As for the select, and home buttons, i don't remember which point they are either, but you can unscrew the top face panel pcb and see on the other side of the daughter board that they are labeled. Trace these wires back to the main board and use those as the signal lines for those two buttons

As for the switch, you can drill a DPDT switch to the inside of the cord compartment or use an impV2 switch which toggles between consoles by holding a button when you plug it in.

As for finding a place for the pcb, i always dremel out that huge plastic post and mount my brawlpad/fightpad/4716 pcb diagonally where that post used to be

I make it sound easier than it is (well it is easy, just people have a lot of cold feet and don't want their sticks break when they do something.

So it's pretty much just taking the signals from the stick and buttons, and passing them into a second PCB for 360 control? That sounds pretty fucking simple.

Posted

that's exactly what it means

people are generally turned off by modding themselves because they don't know how to use a soldering iron properly

I'm assuming you know how to do the switch, just take a DPDT and set your D- D+ inputs in its corresponding in points, and wire up the out point to the one leading out the usb

it gets more complex with LED's since you have to calculate the power draw and such

This will be my first time modding an arcade stick (it's my first stick), but soldering doesn't scare me because I'm an electrical engineering student. :P I know my way around a soldering iron and a multimeter. The DPDT is just used to switch which PCB is outputting over USB, because both PCBs will be powered at all times? Sounds pretty simple. Does the DPDT switch have to have any specific ratings? I'm not too familiar with the voltage and current usage for USB.

nope no need for specific ratings for the dpdt

like i said, you don't have to be EE to do modding

personally i'm an accounting student

that is the fightpad indeed,

the street fighter fightpads work too

you can also use a madcatz 4716 xbox pad too

or a TE board

or a VX SA board

or a fighting stick VX board

or any board as long as its common ground with the exception of the pdp pads since you have to put some pull up resistors and diodes on the end of each signal (not fun)

So, uh.... chtlulu or PS360+?

First one (so far I could see) is easier to find but more expensive (50 monies). Second one is cheaper but it's now a damned rarity.

if you're doing a new build from scratch, then the ps360 vanilla is the way to go, or you can get the paewang revolution which works just as good for a dual mod straight out of the box

if you want to do something more complex and custom like PS1/2 and dreamcast support as well as PS3, Mcthulhu is the way to go. You'd have to get another board inside the cthulhu if you want to use it on an xbox though

it'd also depend on what systems you'd want it for

I don't give 2 craps about the 360 :v: At least I am not really into playing in 360 consoles, most of the time I play on Ps3.

In any case, the xbox board thing isn't a big issue for me. I have friends who can get it for me.

oh

if its just for ps3, get the cthulhu

or cheaper yet, there was this other board which was just 20 bucks and uses some form of harness connectors

it doesn't yet have home button support i think though

Get the MC flavor of the Cthulhu. You never know when you'll want to use your stick on a Dreamcast, or Saturn, or PS2, or SNES somewhere down the line.

Saturn and Dreamcast?

... I just made my decision.

yes

very good stick for a first one, easy to modify and upgrade if you want to later down the line, just requires a bit of soldering finesse. no more hassle to dremel and grind

Good to know it's improvable if I ever need it. I'm mostly concerned with being able to use it since not many people have PS3s, I also worry about being rough on it.

Anyways, getting to work and looking into getting the finished product printed:

plexi or blank background?

I'm not sure, I'm really just playing around with the template idea and seeing if the local kinkos or a color laser can do the job of making it.

Changed my mind :v:

Ordered the PS360+, it should be here before march ends.

So far I read, dat shit has console auto-detection, mic support (don't really care about that) and forgot what else. Can someone here explain what I'm missing? :v:

But I want someone to explain how dat shit works, fag :OS:

then say that in the first place you dumb fuck. "explain what i'm missing" doesn't mean "explain how things work" at all.

okay so for the most part, its actually very secret

but i'll say something cool about the board from what i know so far

-there is SOCD cleaning support if you're into those all button controllers

-it is an auto switch capable board, but you can force it into a console mode

-RJ45 pinouts are the same as if you were using an mcthulhu pinout

-LS + RS + DP is available when when certain button strings are pressed

i know there's more but i forgot

also cake be nice, its the beginner forum
