Also i forgot to ask about health ratings. ES, do characters still take less damage when low on health?

I had a similar (sort of) question regarding character health in general: Based on everything you saw, what do you think about characters' HP values compared to AC/+R? Do characters take roughly the same amount of hits before getting KO'd, or generally more/less?

I always thought GG had excellent momentum regarding combo damage and general round length, so it'd be great if they kept that aspect roughly the same in Xrd. I know the popular trend in fighters these days is to nerf everyone's damage and make rounds last longer, but I personally like 'em a bit shorter.

When someone gets knocked down can they tech or pop-off the ground like they do in BB or P4A? Are knockdowns just like GG (no quick rise mechanic or ground teching)?

EDIT: Also do characters flash as they're getting up?

sup. probably you already know this stuff, but whatever:

just got back from loketest. i know everyone says "oh wow it looks so 2d, i can't believe it's 3d," but with venom that's somehow especially true. it was like completely impossible to distinguish him from a really good sprite, especially from a distance.

the intros are sooooo sick (they seemed to be kind of laggy for some reason though?). not sure if it's worth anyone's time to actually describe them, but i think may's is my favorite, followed closely by sol's.

gameplay stuff:

i saw some tweet where the guy was like "game is guilty gear speed, with just sliiiiiightly more hitstop." i don't know what the deal with that is, maybe they're just trying to hype things up and avoid saying anything negative, but the game seemed clearly slower to me? maybe not like, majorly slower or anything, i don't know (obviously people are getting used to the game so it will look slower regardless). but the increased hitstop is eaaaasily noticeable, to the extent that it kind of annoys me. as a player i can put that stuff out of my mind and it's no big deal, but yeah i don't know, whatever.

i don't really understand the new RC stuff (i guess it's time for me to actually look that up). like there's a yellow one and a normal one, right? whatever, the main one i saw was the normal one that slows down time for a bit. i have no idea whether this will have a serious impact on how RCs are used in competitive play, but it occurred to me while watching people play that it'll probably be a really good feature for spectators. it's a brief timeslow effect that makes it pretty obvious that an RC just happened. seems smart?

there are some other little things the game does to make information more available to players and spectators, i think. i don't know much about may, but i know she has some sort of move where she summons a ring, and then afterwards can call a dolphin through that ring. in Xrd, though, there's a "hologram dolphin" that shows up where the dolphin would appear if you were to summon it. um, i have no idea how may works so i could be misunderstanding that somehow. but i do know that those ring/dolphin summon moves confused the *shit* out of me when i used to watch a lot of AC videos, so for spectators that sounds smart to me? anyway it's a hologram dolphin, not sure how you can complain about that

guard bar seems similar to AC guard bar, but it starts at zero instead of "50%" so i'm not really sure what impact that has on ordinary proration stuff. the guard meter seems to decrease slower than the AC one, too? yeah i don't know, whatever

character specific stuff:

millia's idle stance is different now, and way more boring. still good though, i just SUPER loved her XX one is all. =( hopefully they can do new idle stances along with the alternate costumes they'll probably add in the future? or something?

potemkin has some new move where he jumps in the air headfirst, landing on his head like a hilarious idiot. i'm no good at this game so i have no idea what the implications are of that, but whatever. he seems like potemkin otherwise.

when venom knocks a ball into another ball, the first ball actually gets knocked backwards and is re-set.

everyone else i didn't notice anything particularly notable to me!

summary as a former BB player who hasn't played much GG but watches lots of videos: seems awesome, seems like guilty gear, pretty as FUCK, but i hope hitstop is reduced.

I'm sure ASW will make everything right. I hope they will bring back 4 players battle (updated Isuka mechanics with only one line) one day.

Plus Leopaldon. :roboky:

I don't remember these being mentioned:

Since they are returning to Reload style, are vacuum move properties (like Pot's 2S) out?

I actually mentioned that one from a JP player's tweet. Maybe other moves that had it still do, but Pot's 2S no longer vacuums.

elvenshadow, can you clarify on sol's PBB? the new DI only air command grab?

how far does sol air dash when he does this?

does it work against airborne or grounded opponents or both?

thanks in advance!

I can't believe it's not 2D graphics. No, seriously it looks so 2D in motion that the 3D camera shifts when a Dust happens weird me out.

Wow, the Dust cinematic is alot faster than I thought, looking pretty great though...

Now to wait for my Lord and Savior ; -;

Hmm, after watching these vids multiple times through now, I don't really see where people were saying the missing animations are jarring or w/e. It looks fine to me, maybe it's an in person thing?

This game looks so damn good! God, it's awesome! But I have one question. One that has been bugging me since they revealed May... did they give her a flat-chest? Can anyone confirm that?

Yep. Looks like Guilty Gear all right.

Yeah, the camera jerk when you go to dust is weird. Seems like it changes if you don't successfully dust as well.

It doesn't. Sols first dust is blocked by May and nothing happens.

Now it's going to be easier to hitconfirm.

Btw, the game looks even better on video. ASW did a fantastic job.

Sheesh, what's with the spinning box heads? I never understand new carnival rides.

Good to see the stages are still wonderfully surreal, haha.

That gameplay footage was tasty nice. In my mind, I pictured it running a lot slower than old GG for some reason. It's too hard to tell if the game speed is exactly where AC is at, but it definitely looks quick, which is good.

I don't know how I feel about the camera jerk on dusts yet. On the one hand, it's kind of jarring when you're not expecting it. On the other, I assume it shouldn't be too tough to get used to after seeing it a couple times... Plus it does give dusts a nice little flavor punch that helps you feel the hit, like landing one is something of an event. I assume it's the same way for Overdrives. Whether or not the effect becomes annoying after repeated views is what remains to be seen.

A blessing upon the souls of the departed heroes who were dragged out into the alley behind Club SEGA and executed by ASW employees moments after uploading this precious footage to YouTube.

It's more for the opening cutscenes and "Ultra Move" cutscenes where the camera has the close-ups on the specific character. It kind of looks 12-15 frames per second-ish. For comparison, typically a cartoon is around 24 fps and a live action (NTSC) show is about 30 fps. So, since the art looks THAT awesome, your brain thinks of it more as an anime. But, then it doesn't animate as well as one. I hope that kind of makes sense. When you have the game in 3D, and all of your "competitors" seem to look a lot more fluid (even something like, say, the Naruto Storm series that has the same style), it may be something that can be used against them in the general public perception area.

During the match, it's basically no different from the XX games in terms of how it animates. But, for me at least, even that's kind of annoying because they certainly have the capability to smooth things out more since they aren't drawing the individual frames. I don't know if full animation tweening for everything would look right for the game. But something to, -without a doubt-, make it look like you are playing the -next- GG after years of XX and its updates, something to really set it apart, would be appreciated on my end.

But, I have my degree in Digital Art, so I probably think about things that perhaps others wouldn't.

This game looks so damn good! God, it's awesome! But I have one question. One that has been bugging me since they revealed May... did they give her a flat-chest? Can anyone confirm that?

...It's definitely not prominent. I didn't notice any real curvature at all. But, that's not really what I was looking for. :v:

The art on the site is her character model, if you didn't know. Feel free to scrutinize. lol

Everything but the hitstun looks the same. Even the blockstun looks about the same tbh.

Not really the end of the world, would prefer old hitstun but w/e

The innovation on display in regards to the game's look and motion is being understated, I feel. How long have various developers - older and modern alike - churned on and on about their love for sprite work, but it becoming exceedingly unfeasible due to the costs and manpower instigated by HD proliferation? This is BETTER than a compromise. This is BETTER than sprite work, imo, and is a legitimate EVOLUTION of that style. Seems as though the implications for this technique are larger than Arc Sys fighting games, and are something developers of other genres (i.e. platformers) and indie developers can look forward to.

Can software development techniques be patented? I'm guessing not, but I can't imagine other development houses not wanting to get a closer look at this game once it releases. Arc needs the awkward Dust transitions and other things to remind viewers this shit is 3D - because their is truly nothing that looks like this on the market. And it looks wonderful.

Ah, I see that does make more sense. I am sure they'll probably smooth it out over time, it seems like they are trying to just transfer all the characters and their moves over to the new engine first then tweak everything (assuming all characters make it in the game of course). But that does help a lot in understanding it better, thanks.

What's happening at the end of this video with Sol? He does some sort of uppercut, the camera changes quickly, then he's in front of May when the camera returns to normal.
