Until very recently, I had a really bad habit of using my bursts incredibly early on in the round. I blame Arena, where one or two screwups can spell death for me, but it's a habit that Blazblue will punish you for. To get out of it, I just stopped using my bursts for a while (or at least until the very last possible moment) to teach myself to not rely on them. I doubt that a lot of non-bursters have my reason for not using them, but there you go.

Lol, Liz player syndrome? Even though I started out with BB, after I played P4U (and I spent way more time on P4U in comparison), I never dropped the habit of holding on to bursts. I don't usually burst the first round, if at all during an entire game. I've gone entire sets with hardly bursting lol.

I don't think it's necessarily apathy towards the match to not burst, but sometimes you feel like you can't run it back/don't know where to burst/etc.

See, Elochai knows what it's about. :P

Here's one that's entirely my fault but really annoys me: When I've used Tager for a while, and I switch to someone else and forget I can move at a pace quicker than continental drift. And nobody ever punishes me online for it for some reason.

How on earth did you manage to ´´mash`` a charge move? That's impressive in it's own right.

You remember the combo:

CH 28C > 28C

It was like that, press DP once, charge it while the DP is coming out....

If it's not mashing, please excuse me.

How do you know when it's safe to burst? I try and save my bursts because I hate it when I get an empty burst. I just feel so.. noobish. ;_;

Bursting depends on the matchup. If its vs a character that relies on heavy momentum, burst early, but its still subject to change because everyone plays differently. I tend to burst early against Valk and Tao since they can corner carry from one mistake and get rediculous in the corner.

Be carefull with bursting too often either very early or very late if you fight the same person consecutively, because they might start going to bait it if they see you do it several times

Try to not burst in the air, they often fall before you and punish the burst.

Yeah I understand what you're saying, I have been similarly overwhelmed before. Still though, if it's the last round, I'm a combo away from winning and the opponent has a burst they don't use when I land the combo, it feels like an empty win, if that makes sense.

Yeah, I get what you mean. It's kind of like that feeling when you win in a way that seems like it shouldn't have worked, almost as if you didn't completely earn your victory.

At the same time, I feel like not using your burst when you're way behind is kind of like conceding in other types of games when you're fairly certain that you've lost and don't want to waste your opponent's time, so I can respect that.

I don't burst when I'm about to die because its funmy to watch how many times someone tries to burst bait you. They waste like all their heat and drop small combos just to get you to burst rather than just use a DD. I'm not givin you the satisfaction of baiting my burst if you'd rather do that than eat that last 600 hp up with a DD.

Yes it's a handicap, but to me, and I'm sure others, playing on stylish means that you're not willing to learn the actual game and for want to invest time to be good, they want to be at fighting level RIGHT NOW, an don't want to be bothered with learning to play

So, bitter then. Gotcha.

When people have a burst and they don't use it when they need to. You're basically telling me you don't give a shit about the match lol.

I've messaged a few people after playing to ask them why they never used burst.

One guy said it felt cheap to use burst to get out of a combo, and that you shouldn't be able to get out of someone's combo if you made a mistake and got hit in the first place.

Everyone else said they were trying to get better at the game and wanted to stop relying on bursts to get out of corner pressure etc.

@ What Necro said: Yes. This exactly. I've noticed that some good players can yomi out your burst bait and use that opportunity to attack or escape.

But Necro there is always that grey area when you catch them with an attack when they have ~3k -- 4k health left. They have too much HP left so you can't just do a DD immediately to kill them, but one full combo will still finish them (except Tsubaki users).

I won't stop baiting bursts though. Nothing compares to the feeling you get when a friend is watching you play and you successfully bait someone's burst. "H-how did you know he was going to burst there???"

I don't understand this mentality at all, frankly. It's not like bursting doesn't cost you anything in this game. You still have to pay for getting caught in a combo, you're just making a decision to strategically sacrifice a potentially valuable offensive option in order to get out of taking a certain amount of damage. Just letting someone beat you for free because you made a mistake is like committing video game harakiri.

I think its because they believe that bursts should not be in the game in the first place. And by not bursting ever they exercise their power in a way that will make the game more like what they want it to be. They mod the game by simply not using said mechanic (but they don't expect their opponent to abide by the same rules). That's just my guess though, so it's probably wrong as hell.

There are probably some people on this site that could help explain better. I think Thunderbolt doesn't burst...and I don't know anyone else. (Thunderbolt has a mad defensive game though...coincidence???)

I can understand if you go for a more burst safe combo to do burst baiting if they have like 3-4k left, but when you're burning through all your resources I still find it funny lol. With Relius, if I think someone will burst bait, I end the combo early with a move that can give good oki, even if the combo only did like 2k damage.

So I was playing on the PJS stream last night, and let me tell you...it was kind of entertaining. Not the matches themselves, as those were all over the place. The reactions to what was happening and to what others were typing in the stream chat was pretty funny.

*cough* A-anyways...one of the things that really bothers me about playing on a casual stream is when you stop to comment on lag/delay. It's a given that there are going to be differences in latency from player to player. It's annoying, however, when people know this and yet still respond in a silly fashion to you saying something along the lines of, "I literally couldn't do anything that I normally would, haha." It's especially bad when the stream viewers call out the player you were against for mashing and then laugh when you complain about the blatantly obvious lag spikes and game freezes during rounds.

Neither player wins b/c the stream gives them both some nonsensical response. Dulls the enjoyment for both parties :v:

You realize by writing that post everyone who reads it knows that you've got your ass handed to you by a Stylish-mode masher player?

Well, yeah. I don't see any shame in it, since it typically happened around when I started. Now, it's just annoying as hell to face, even when it's an easy win. I'd rather have a close and fun fight that ended in a loss for me rather than a boring and easy fight that had me win.

Also the fact that stream rooms are usually laggy cause they're streaming/seeding/whateveritscalledcauseidontknowstreamingterminologies

I'm pretty tired of getting hit by bullshit attacks when I'm behind people. Gotta fix those damn hitboxes.
