Also, the roster dropped like a ton of bricks.

The character select screen we've seen in the latest Xrd vids isn't the final one right?

It's probably the final one for this version of the game. Coming soon: Guilty Gear Something Something Xrd Sign Double Plus.

At most i think they'll put Ram where the current random select is and put random select under the timer. Probably.

Blazblue would look pretty cool with 3d models, as long as they have xrd's ultra anime look. I'd like a 3d Rachel or platinum. And cinematic astrals. But cp hasn't been out that long so I guess it will be a while.

That would be weird. There are so many parallels between the two. Loli's with big weapons. Loud, energetic ninjas. Chinese ladies in revealing outfits. Angry red guys with deep voices fighting bishie authority figures in blue.

That only makes me curious about how they'd integrate dusts with BB mechanics. I know a lot of things are similar between BB and GG, but an extra button is quite the difference. Aaaaaanyway, this is a different subject. So are these updates about character balances getting released chunk by chunk? I was wantin to see what they're doin to Relius' backdash

Mori wants to make BB using the Xrd models? I say let him do it. As much as I love pure 2D sprites I also fully understand that, from a business perspective it is a very expensive and time-consuming process.

However, I can also understand TekkamanArk's concerns. Games are a visual medium. Visual aesthetics are the FIRST thing potential players will see. It is what captures their attention first, while the gameplay comes after. If something is not visually stimulating to someone, then all the magnificent gameplay in the world wouldn't help them like it. I too was not exactly enthralled when I first looked upon the models for Sol and Ky in Xrd. But then the music kicked in and gameplay began to circulate so I spent more time adjusting to the models and came to gradually love them. It's worth remembering that while it is perfectly fine to love/prefer something (in this case 2D sprites), change is necessary to help something evolve and stand out. If you cannot bring yourself to like the new, you still have the old and can always stick with that.

Now if only someone at ASW hired George Kamitani to draw the models for the next BB. I think then my eyes would burst from the amount of gorgeous.

The characters in BB are visually different enough that they should stand out fine in 3D anyway.

I wouldn't want Blazblue in 3D because Blazblue is drawn in anime style. From my point of view, making anime characters into 3D models that look good would be very difficult, especially cell-shading and hair movement.

I take it you never seen any GG Xrd videos yet? Tell me that this doesn't look just like an anime. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ9Cd4MKqHs

Guilty Gear is not nearly as 'anime' as Blazblue, though. In fact, Guilty Gear probably remains one of the most unique franchises up to this day as far character designs and soundtrack goes. The new 3D was clearly made specifically for them, and it is not really 'anime' as much it is 'Guilty Gear with extra life'.

I'm not saying Blazblue can't work in 3D or anything, but...Blazblue is a very cliche, one dimensional, and honestly BLAND franchise from an anime standpoint. There is nothing unique about the designs, or the plot, or any of that. It's a style(if it can even be called this) that fundamentally works better with its native art style, the hand drawn one. I'm not against it going 3D, but it really wouldn't do any 'good' to it. Whether it would do bad or not depends on how they would pull it off, but it definitely wouldn't do 'good'.

I've seen them, in fact, all of them.

I also think Arc's sprites is what makes them unique and gives their games that certain charm. I personally think that Blazblue is one of the best looking fighting games out there, given that they were able to use 2D characters and 3D backgrounds so harmoniously.

I just don't like it when anime goes 3D, but if they do it right and don't mess with the art style or anything, I'm sure they could pull it off.

Honestly; it doesn't. It looks like a game and that's it. Now this isn't saying it looks bad, but it definitely does not looks like an anime (or rather, an anime opening). This may sound weird when I say it, but: anime has a very distinct "feel" to it when viewing and Xrd's opening does not have that at all.

I've watched all of the GG Xrd videos long ago.

I'm not dissing GG or anything but the way their ponytails move looks unnatural.

This reminds me of the Black Rock Shooter anime.

That was mainly just a collection of win poses and super attacks. I was specifically referring to the character models and animations in the cuts scenes of the video to address the part where he said "From my point of view, making anime characters into 3D models that look good would be very difficult, especially cell-shading and hair movement." With Xrd they succeeded in doing just that and it will only get better as it will be very easy for them to continue to further improve upon the character models and animations at any time for future updates.

Absolutely Blazblue is the best quality looking 2d fighter ever made but to me Xrd actually managed to matches that quality from what ive seen so far.

I know what you were referring to and I still stand by what I said: the models don't give off an anime-like feel. No matter what, it still looks like a video game model moving. Though that might be because I remember that little 5 minute anime trailer that GGX had. You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCl1kf699X8. Notice the difference? Also beware: really poor English voices.

With Xrd they succeeded in doing just that and it will only get better as it will be very easy for them to continue to further improve upon the character models and animations at any time for future updates.

Oh that's a given. This is the first time ASW even used models like this. There's bound to be a few bumps along the way, but it is safe to assume improvements are going to happen as well.

Of course you can tell during the cut scenes its a 3d model moving but during normal gameplay they look just like 2d sprites, unless the camera rotates around on purpose its hard to tell that they are not. The point was that they did make anime characters into 3D models that look good.

Also he just said that "This reminds me of the Black Rock Shooter anime." so evidently it does give off an anime-like feel to others.

I feel like watching Arpeggio of Blue Steel gets you more comfortable to CGI anime. Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with BB, but I felt like the animation in Xrd reminiscent of Arpeggio, and it felt more comfortable after seeing what a well animated 3D anime looks like (if others didn't like this animation, that's fine, but it felt like a good comparison).

If BB were in 3D though... I feel like I'd spam Relius' twirl and doll super, just to see all those animations. Especially the doll super.

Just to throw my own opinion into the mix, as much as I like GG and it's characters, the story isn't really good. It's not relevant, playing through story modes in GG never feels rewarding and after watching Xrd's arcade intro + couple of characters' arcade playthroughs I think they (Ishiwatari mainly but whoever is writing the story) acknowledged this too and tried to take the game series' plot to a new direction. Yes, Overture happened but in a straight comparison BB's story just feels so much better with the "relevancy" issues and other things.

Chronophantasma in 2.5D? Hell no. Fuck no. If you're going to do BB in 2.5D make a new game. To me ideally after Xrd the next game they'd make would GG vs. BB (in 2.5D) and after that, if Mori will continue the series, a new BB in 2.5D.

GG vs. BB, would it work? If they'd implement a some sort of Dust mechanic to BB and made a setting to turn BB-style OTG-game on/off, it'd be alright. Or just forget the Dust and give everyone a 3HS sweep.

IMO the best way to do a GG/BB crossover is something like the Capcom vs SNK games where you can choose a fighting system based on one side or the other. You know you want Blazblue characters with FRCs and GG characters with overdrive.
