[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
TeeJay replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
Is Sin's eating more manual or is it automatic when he drains his gauge? I just had an epiphany that Ram's design is too similar to A.B.A.'s under the cloak to put her in the game. :P Speaking of random things, it would be nice if they put a photo mode in the game or allowed you to tweak angles like in the Bururaji vid. I'm actually looking forward to those perceived story mode cutscenes as well. I wonder if Sin's comic relief can make it to the level of Robo Ky's. Will this be the first GG (Of those I intend to play or have played) that has a challenge mode? -
I mean, I grew up on that NES/Sega pad, N64 pad and joystick (that Starfox Expert mode) so I'm comfortable but....man. Well, it's a different feel so I guess you adapt.

I think I had some questions and/or statements regarding a lot of mental areas in pressure, neutral, adjustments, etc. Either you'll offer direct tidbits or things to others. After watching some of Sabin's netplay vids (his outloud thinking) I began to question what I'm doing cognitively during a match. Also, I have trouble applying knowledge in my buttons. You played on 360 d-pad O_O or joystick. I tried playing XX reload on 360 once and it was a struggle. Kriegdrache, I had buyers remorse 2 weeks after I started stick. I thought it was ridiculously awkward at first and though i wasn't progressing. 2 more weeks later, I was going ham. Is PSN down, or is it just me?

haha, I got bodied by Errol 1-18. Thanks for calling me out on that. I was doing dumb stuff against frog and lobelia oki. I caught myself a few times going, you did it again. I played another Rachel that seemed on par with Errol whom I started doing the opposite. He saw I got scared and just started blocking for days. I gotta find a balance of mostly block and occasional back dash or dp. Likewise, I was expecting you to not 2c on wakeup and wind out and just reset to neutral. Unfortunately, I'm hard headed and need about 5-7 matches to lock in before hitting a wall-- slow on adaptation. I haven't played Howling Moon in a minute. We use to play Litchi mirrors in CS/EX and maybe even CT. Howling Moon and Woz have grown quite a bit since late CT/Early CS. Overall, I'm just doing too many high risk things, making judgments based on space and not options, and hard reads. I'm going to have to figure out my poking habits and go from there. Maybe I should be asking myself only, "what can they do?" for a while. Mac has indirectly given me some interesting processing ideas. I don't analyze information well enough in a match in a proactive/productive way. I have a huge list of questions to ask higher level players on the subject that I might just do some day.

I assumed they meant ps4 sticks (which are compatible with ps3). I've heard Dual Shock 4s completely work with ps3 now so assumed the same with sticks. -
Didn't ryuusei say he hated certain matchups in 1.0, such as Jin who he thought Carl doesn't win against? I feel like i heard that somewhere, or an interview. I'm ignorant in how he's changed in 1.1, but Dio and everyone else starts playing Carl again haha.

That first Litchi match vs. Rachel was on pad. The rest was on stick. It's interesting because I felt I was doing things differently and used a few different string variations that surprised me. I learned some things about my own habits, especially playing Tsubaki who I stopped practicing. I can't make fine tune adjustments without muscle memory or my habits are way too strong. It's going to be puzzling to mess up that process. I found myself wanting to dash command grab in pressure but literary did something else in the match, since doing it slow makes me subconsciously need to act immediately. I probably also need to retrain how I approach to pressing buttons. 30-40 minute challenge mode fraud Jin is pretty fun. Btw, I need to unlock Kagura since I didn't realize I didn't have to buy him. >_>

Yeah, that was interesting. I'm not sure if that was PSN or what but I'm gonna restart my modem. Playing on pad when you really don't is strange. That was my first time playing Jin online and I forgot any combos. That was my first time playing Jin online and I forgot any combos. Lol, i missed dps and did normals instead.

I'm down if you wanna play pad me.

Arizona "Arcsys Release Dates Give Us Erectile Dysfunction", Thread
TeeJay replied to Chumaralupa's topic in West Coast
Lord Knight has been looking for Nu players to prep for the matchup so 99.9% yes. He said they were in the same block. -
To clarify, I meant the psp d pad is worst than vita. On a serious note, a legit stick with sanwa buttons is really responsive. No one would use it otherwise. If you think about pressing a button, you've probably pressed it-- about as much pressure as a touch pad/mac pad. My opinion: Harder on stick: Instant air dashes and dashes. Half circles initially. Easier: Quarter Circles, everything else is cake. Multiple Buttons, etc. There are many stick/pad topics in the forum but if you can do everything you want on a pad, don't worry about it. Susano, are you a night owl and play preferably around 1-4 am? It's too late for me to use my stick since I'm around other people and pad me would be diminished. My pad Tsubaki isn't too much worse though.

It's not that uncommon as in you will see pad players at most tournaments. Some top players are pad players. I think SKD plays pad. I think stick is the majority but it's personal preference (if Wolfkrone can play Viper on pad). I find some things easier on each but I'm overall much more comfortable with a stick after the rough transition (took me about a month). I also changed grip several times. I played GGXXAC on psp a lot which is much harder than on vita.

July 2, netplay. I assume I played so poorly, you didn't want a third match haha (red litchi). Still learning CP Litchi. I've been playing Tsubaki when I started in late April. Anyone know anything about the scene in southeastern Virginia?
-
Ah, Virginia beach here. There's a few Norfolk BB/GG players on dustloop. I had to pick up Jin and some DJ Blacktricity study after playing you and a few other Jin players. He's my worst personal matchup though replays showed me some things.

rematch button? like people are spotting in P4U2. -
GGs. Thanks for the tech talk. Feel free to message me on DL whenever.

Good luck Kiba if you're going.

I say yes. Even among things that I do know, it at least gave me a different perspective. My struggles are neutral and pressure execution. I think it gave me something to think about. I'm a mediocre player so I'm not sure how beneficial they are if you are new. But I think it's more beneficial to newcomers than some of the higher level players may think. Even if they don't know what's going on, they will at least see that there is a lot to be uncovered and seek solutions that way.

[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

Along with the Pot theory, perhaps they have a future plan and want to take things in different directions later. Instead of changing/replacing things piece by piece, they're starting raw and doing new things from there onward. Core mechanics> character specifics? It's less bizarre when the game is new. Perhaps we'll see a CT>CS type of change later on. If that's good/bad design, idk but I suppose they have the experience. I still saw some Ino get a 25+ win streak in acho vid-- bodying/trolling everyone. -
such slander haha. Just look at it as compliments to your play and use their salt to season your chips.

Good games Kwriot. I think we've played a few times in EX. I wasn't expecting an impromptu first to 10 but it was fun. I counted 10-5 in your favor. You made some big adjustments that made the matches a lot different. I learned quite a bit and was exposed to a few things I need to be doing as well as be aware of.

Relatively new to fighting games and looking for a teacher
TeeJay replied to TheKingOfHerons's topic in Beginner Mode
Man, I was more and willing to switch to my weaker characters to give you some adjustments. I sent you a message but combos isn't your problem right now. I think you should think about pokes, movement and pressure. I think learning your strings will cure a lot-- what moves cancel into what, how to string them long and short, and how to mix them up. Jin has some solid pressure, a nice grab and is one of the characters that kicks my butt. If anything, you are already a pretty patient player and I see attempts at footsies. You like to airdash jump in a lot which is gonna get you kill (it's exposed). Instant airdash instead meaning you airdash right off the ground without jumping straight up. 9(5)6 (diagonal up, neutral and then forward fast). I like that you understand 2D and other things. Just make sure you space these things perfectly (correct range or just out of range where they make walk into it). You need a few buddies (online for me) in your skill range. It will be 1000x times more fun-- and this is how I got into the game and how I learned it. -
Everyone develops at their own pace. While tutoring music theory, I'm often like, how can these college students still struggle this much in elementary parts of theory (3rd/4th semester and still counting intervals on their fingers). I think it's an amazing thing that they are interested. In fact, the best thing to do is to let them enjoy themselves and develop together. I'm probably low-mid level (who knows how to measure that), and I started BBCT as my first fighting game. I remember starting 3-36ish online and it took me about 6 months with an online training community of about 10 people to become competent-- including TokyoWillExplode/AdmirableKorngold, Kaeru, and others. I think I was the bottom feeder of the group. Eventually Vice-Taicho started teaching me Litchi basics in a room when I switched from Ragna. I had 2 roommates in college that learned BBCSEX because i was playing the game a lot. They never were as good as me so I found myself in the same position as you. I just kept playing them, often with characters I don't play at all (day 1 Carl, Hazama, Rachel.) One day, one of them decided they were seriously going to learn Hazama. I remember he started practicing everyday and I would play Hazama mirrors with him. Eventually, his Hazama surpassed my bs Hazama and he started linking Jayoku Houtenjin dash 214D~C on his own, doing chain combos and other things. I congratulated his first 4k combo which is a big deal when I never thought he would get Ragna's 5B 5C 5D(2) GH/CS or something. I'm not sure if he's better now but he bought BBCP. But at least I do know that he really started to understand why I enjoyed fighting games so much. I think the best thing now is that he is interested. If he is still enthusiastic about the game and has some cognitive appreciation of the depth in the game (doesn't have to be in practice), then he'll keep playing and grow eventually. I wish I had a teacher since I've never had another serious BB/GG/PAU player to play regularly. My most practical advise: Keep it simple. Bug him about one thing at a time because he's probably gonna process and assimilate it slowly. Maybe mixup one day/week, neutral another (like don't jump so much), frame trapping or stagger pressure another day, oki, tick throws and throw setups, etc. The light bulb will slowly click. For a very (bad) habit player like myself, I even have to write out my pressure strings to avoid redundancy. I hope this helps from a not-so-high-level perspective.

GGs to those I played today. Deflores, I wanted to play a bit more against your Nu--I was beating another lower level Nu just before and needed to experience more solid play, but people started coming home (potential lag is strong). I really might have to learn to sub Jin because I had no idea how to defend against him. I rather block cursed Arakune or Litchi, Valk or whoever-- Jin being my personal weak matchup. Somebodywhobodied-- I keep wanting to get bodied but a red 0 makes me sad. Susano-- We need to play for CS2/ex sake. I mostly only play when not in pain so maybe it'll just randomly happen. Shoutouts to looking at my CS CS2 vids and going O_O what the hell is this? I thought I didn't make any progress since I'm rather scrubby, but wow. I was horrible. The entire online community couldn't have been that worse 3 years ago?

I mained Litchi from late CT onward, so she isn't new, but never optimum. I started CP late April/Early May and played Tsubaki 95% of the time. I just now started really learning CP Litchi. I'm still doing dumb stuff like haku chun due to EX habits. i dropped every itsuu A hard read because I don't have even the easy confirm down yet.
