I disagree. Assuming there are no significant changes to how you build meter in CP, it shouldn't be altered to accommodate Barrier, it'll defeat the whole purpose of meter management and coordination.

CP has new meter gain rules?

Also considering how fast the Barrier Gauge drains currently (and how fast Faultless Defense drains tension in GG) yeah I think either a significant amount of meter needs to be given freely or they would have to have a good handle on how it drains meter. Like holding Barrier for 2 irl seconds spends 1 Heat or something

But imagine how fun it would be to start a round with close to full meter as haku. XD

So what are we going to do about the apparent lack of a 360 version for this? The Famitsu article only mentions the PS3. It's going to limit the size of the community, and inconvenience people who only have 360-compatible sticks.

We can only hope they decide to make one specifically for Western markets, which has happened at least once with Japanese PS3 exclusives in the past (Dark Souls).

We think the same things we've said like 19 times throughout the course of this thread. To wit: It's extremely likely that the lack of the 360 release is solely for Japan, because anyone who would do otherwise must hate money. Also, you'll observe that actual details about ANYTHING related to the console release basically don't exist yet, so any sort of speculation beyond that point is completely baseless. The end.

That's not convincing enough. Capcom has done plenty of boneheaded things in the recent past that would seem to indicate that they "hate money" (the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 comes to mind), when in fact they just have very poor ideas of how to make it. And you shouldn't forget Aksys' botched US release of Arcana Heart 3: Download only, PS3 only, and perfectly timed with the PSN outage!

Aksys could simply say that the majority of the BB community is on PS3, and most players own both systems, and they're very sorry if they've inconvenienced anyone but they'd like for us to grin and bear it. I have both systems, but no PS3 stick. That is why I worry.

That's not really relevant... that's just bad luck, not bad decision making.

I know, but I thought it helped illustrate the sheer amount of failure surrounding that game's US release.

Aksys didn't botch the NA release of AH3 lolol, 1st off Microsoft (NA) told them they couldn't bring AH3 in the way they planned, 2nd it was digital to save resources (something MANY companies do), 3rd no one planned for the outage.

It simply came down to Aksys doing 1 thing "Do we please some of the fans or none of them?" a similar conundrum came up with Battle Fantasia and the original Agarest Wars, Sony allowed them to save money (of which they probably don't have a lot of--they are a small publishing only company that deals with mostly niche titles after all) by providing digital releases. In fact MS doesn't even permit digital games if it exceeds their self placed limit (the 1st time of which was raised only to ensure the first Bionic Commando REarmed would come to 360).

Arc System Works have officially confirmed it themselves, "we're not sure about the 360 release at this point" which could mean a number of things. But seeing how NO international plans have been discussed (with the public) thus far, all we can do is wait.

Also Dark Souls was never PS3 exclusive (Demon's Souls was), better examples to your claim would be the original release of Final Fantasy XIII and to a more different approach the North American release of Nier (with both being Gestalt instead of 360 = Gestalt, PS3 = Replicant)

Somehow I doubt PQube has more resources to throw around than Aksys, and the game was given a full retail release on both platforms in Europe.

That doesn't apply to Games on Demand. The HD versions of RE4 and Code Veronica were released through the service here without having had American retail boxes. Aksys could have pursued such an option on the 360. Also, Battle Fantasia was at least released in some form on both platforms in the US.

Sorry, it should give a bonus, not a penalty. My intention was to give examples of mechanics that would be tied into the barrier meter itself. IB gives you barrier back, alpha count subtracts, back roll subtracts etc.

Barrier meter is still a bad system.

There isn't much to discuss regarding the 360 version of BBCP. There isn't really any reason to speculate either since speculation about it probably isn't going to lead anywhere good. You can only really wait for more information (unless you are the type who likes to contact companies to voice your opinion).

The Barrier system is, in all honesty, pretty damn stupid.

It dumbs down blockstrings to staggers, or else it becomes a "get out of pressure free" card. Don't think just barrier and jump out when the chance arrives. It's too easy to abuse, and it became way too good in CSE.

It really becomes a lot less braindead if it came at the cost of your Heat.

Completely agreed, I also like Henaki's ideas. Having barrier meter is pretty much meaningless right now, and I don't see how it will change with the addition of Crush Triggers. I mean how many times did your guard get broken in CS, when you had meterless guard crush moves even after the opponent had one primer left? It happened very rarely. To add to Henaki's idea, Barrier should start at 50% meter at the beginning of the match. Either that or barrier should work like Slashback more than like Faultless Defense

At least Crush Triggers can be used in combos.

To add to Henaki's idea, Barrier should start at 50% meter at the beginning of the match.

If Barrier still recharges on its own at a decent rate, and the charging begins at the start of the round, I fail to see how this would change much of anything. Perhaps simply shortening the meter is a better idea.

PQube does more than just game publishing :v:

And aside from the RE HD games, all other titles featured in Games on Demand have had prior retailed releases [which again, is probably a "don't want to fall behind Sony" thing like with Bionic Commando, Capcom's actions > Arc/Aksys' actions]

I took henaki's idea as that it didn't recharge, only after you'd successfuly instant block or something like that. Making the recharging slower should be alright I guess.

I love when people brings AH as an example of this kind of situation because usually shows the lack of understanding of how to run a business.

Lets face it, the only way for Aksys to release AH3 on the 360 is by making a retail version of the game, since the size limit would prevent to put it on xbla and the game doesn't meet the criteria to be on Games on Demand.

Is more than probable that after a lot of analysis they simple saw the awful truth.

That no matter how good AH3 can be, the game doesn't have the appeal to sell tons of copies, the risk of releasing a retail version of the game doesn't warrant the effort of trying.

i can't wait until more character specific changes are revealed and then people panic that their character is shit tier because it is genuinely hard for people to realize that they have incomplete information and that strength is relative

Microsoft has never made it public. It would seem to be that your game has to have already been released at retail in some region, but not necessarily the region you want to publish it digitally in. AH3 would have fit that criteria.

Anyway, I just bought a cheapo PS3 stick as insurance. I should be able to mod it with better parts, and I already wanted one for other non-fighting PS3 games anyway. Modding my 360 stick to support both platforms would carry the risk of messing up and bricking it.

Your game needs to have a previous physical release

AH3 would have fit that criteria.

And don't tell me "that's the Japanese release," because neither the Resident Evil HD double pack nor Deathsmiles 2 have ever been available at retail in the US, and they still made it onto Games on Demand here.
