Wow, can't believe this purple grab debate is going on...

You can only blame yourself for getting caught by one really. If it lagged = walk away. Continue and still cry foul... that's on your own head.

If you get purple grabbed, purple grab them back and kill them in the process. They aren't the only one that can do it you know.

Well not everyone is as enlightened to this as a Tager sub might be. I agree that purple grabs are a silly thing to get salty about and they are in no way "unfair", but they can be salt inducing all the same. This is a peeves thread, and folks do have the right to get salty about what they please.

Point taken. Sorry about my post, I was out of line.

Why do people get so terribly bent out of shape about purple throws.

Their reasoning goes that they have X number of frames to escape the throw, and because X is greater than 0 they think they should logically never, ever get thrown.  (This is why David Sirlin infamously complained that BlazBlue was a "no throw" fighter when CT came out.)  The problem with this logic is that it assumes people are AI instead of humans who get stressed or distracted or incorrectly guess what their opponent is going to do.  Regardless, armchair strategists decide they aren't going to fall prey to a certain tactic because their math says it's avoidable.  When you turn around and successfully use said tactic against them, they reason it only worked because lag messed with their calculations, and everyone knows that only a filthy scrub would ever use lag to their advantage (unless the other player somehow exploits lag, in which case it was all part of their brilliant master plan).

TL;DR: Getting purple thrown pisses all over the parade of people who like to play theory fighter more than they play the actual game.

Yeah, you do a purple throw  and if they're slow to react and it goes through you can grab them again on the way down to the ground as they bounce up once, and it'll be a throw reject miss. You can cycle this as many times as you can until they stop trying to throw break a throw reject miss. It's very dirty.

I actually did that one time. I got someone so angry with that. :3

Another pet-peeve: When lag comes ot of nowhere and when I question you on it, you have the nerve to say that your friends are using your wifi. Seriously...the least you could have done was apologize, not tell someone to get a life.

purple throw is a legit tactic to call out mashing.

Does that even apply in CP?  Since you can hold down a button to tech unlike CSE and it's predecessors

Or were you talking about those somewhat frametrap throws

#2.

But you can use it to mess with people's tech too. For instance with Gadget Finger, suppose a player is just mashing DP. If you purple throw them out of GF they'll get caught. Actually that would fit for mashing DP in general.

Really random: In regards to purple grabs, I randomly re-watched Spark knock out Tokido in BBCS2 Evo 2012 Losers Finals with a purple grab (no TRM).

My new pet-peeve is watching myself do really stupid stuff in replays and seeing that matches weren't as one-sided as I thought. I have no idea why I've been using dash 2a with Tsubaki to reset instead of dash 5a/5b. I suppose other character habits from various games. I also hate when you randomly develop some stupid habit, like me missing 2c after a 3c RC, and suddenly I can't remember/feel the timing the rest of the day.

And still trying to do CS tsubaki inputs: Randomly doing a 22c combo ender or 214C in combos.

I can understand that purple grabs are used for blowing up bad techs and mashing but what annoys me about purple grabs is that most people use that as their go - to tactic when the connection isn't all that great.

I won't deny that my reactions are slow at times but when I blatantly see the grab coming and I can't tech it, that grinds my nerves.

I'm glad P4A doesn't have that crap.

Naw, that stayed till extend.

Yeah, it wasn't CT specific; I know because I never played CT, but I found that silly 'loop' by mistake.

Didn't know it stuck around all the way to Extend though.

I occasionally purple grab people. It is usually one of three things:

#1: A poorly timed tick throw/TRM attempt

#2: Me not feeling up to confirming anti-air 5B into a real combo, so just jump cancelling into a purple air throw. (This is a bad habit of mine that sortof annoys me. The fact that it works with some regularity is even worse.)

#3: Me being desperate and ending an air combo with a RC > Purple Air Throw, which honestly, is a semi-legit desperation tactic.

None of these indicate any disrespect for my opponent.

Sometimes I do it when I play my friends offline. There's like an extra layer of metagame when you can literally see and hear them pushing the buttons.

This. So much. Especially when I'm playing Tager. Gadget Finger => RC => Air Grab for the win. I also purple grab with Tager when the situation is looking a little grim. If there's a chance for me to win, I would take it.

Actually, it's just called "English" and "What words mean" but you can be snarky about it if you feel embarassed. :)

Not at all. I mean I did apologize for lack of knowledge to your sensitivity over such matters correct?

Back on topic, Mac hit the nail on the head. Players doing their Sunday best to spam 2A usually get pissy for that exact reason

I don't really see the issue with purple throws. If the lag is so bad you can't tech one of the slowest moves in the game, I feel like you wouldn't be able to properly react to anything and should just find an opponent with a better connection.

That's really not the point. If you use that as a go-to tactic every time, then I can see why people get annoyed. I get annoyed with that too.

That's different, imo.

I don't get it. They're even MORE unbreakable than purple throws in lag, but somehow, that's okay?

Being disconnected from the lobby at random times. I feel horrible afterwards, especially if it's during the last round.

Also, people who leave after one match without saying anything. I feel your obligated to at least say gg or a thumbs up will do, eh?

Also, how do any of you feel when someone uploads a video of you beating/getting beaten by someone with out your consent?

it's whatever. can't stop them, can't take it down. you can ask (respectfully) for them to take it down; what if they don't? just gotta deal with it and be aware that due to this era of social media, any and everything you do with another is liable to be thrown up. of course, if it is inappropriate... report it, but otherwise it's just a game and should not discourage one to never play again or something like that. lastly, you can get better/keep winning and no one will have any losses to post. lol

Hasn't happened to me, but I'd be a little angry if it did. I'd be considerably less angry if they blotted out my name. I mean it's not too hard to edit out a PSN on a video is it?.

Knock someone down > See them mashing a reversal out of the corner of your eye > Block said reversal :toot:

Do you also do the patented CP Tager Purple Airthrow > Purple Air Driver (Or if they tech it: Purple Air Throw [teched] > Air Driver reset)? :v:

I don't really care about that at all. I actually want my replays to be all over the place.
