Montreal: Le Thread Generale Pour Weeaboo Fighters

Sunday tournament would be good, it used to be our regular meetup day, and there won't be too much people assuming that MTLSF do their tournament on Saturday. I also happen to have an exam on Sunday morning so I'll be in Montreal anyways. About tonight, I have my stick with me, so I'm up for w/e. Preferably somewhere that we can play GG. oh also, my cell just died and I don't have my charger. so come on the chat to discuss meetup possibilities. -

1. No because we'll be using an evo monitor and therefore have no way of getting the data to a pc. 2. Nedel said he's bringing his, but it would be a good idea to have another one in case we get another screen somehow, or just as a backup. Brice doesn't need to bring his laptop if we can't record anyways. 3. No point in asking, it's impossible to know ahead of time, even getting a rough estimate, especially if you're asking the day before. Trust me, I've been there. Best thing is just to decide the tournament start time and format on the spot, depending on the situation. Did you mod your stick yet? I'm only importing the PS3 version. But yeah sure you can come over to my place, though I'll often be at foonzo. -
Importing it. Along with 8 other people in my local scene.

Nah, I don't see why we'd do it, it's St1ckbug that runs the BB tournaments in Philly. -

If you guys want to show up early someone has to bring a console and an hdmi cable, or else you won't really be able to play. I'll probably show up around 5 with my stick and nothing else most likely. Well I could bring an HDMI cable. Nini, don't forget my xbox, if you can. Also, heads up, Winter Brawl in Philly is going to be feb 18-19. I'm planning on going, not sure if we'll go friday and monday as well, but if anyone's interested I think it costs around 200-250$ for everything. No need to rush things, just start planning ahead of time if you feel like coming, that way we can also see whether we'll be enough for 2 cars, or just 1. http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/feb-18-2012-gvn-winter-brawl-6-frozen-battlegrounds-feb-18th-and-19th-philadelphia-pa.150734/ I don't like those thread names. However we may have the longest thread on dustloop, so we might as well stick with the current one because it's that important. -

Daaamn that's a lot more than I was expecting, I'm once again hype for FATAL! good stuff.
-
Honestly it didn't feel like it made a big difference, fatal only means you get 2 additional frames of untechable iirc. Max range hitting a limb high in the air I don't think you will, but maybe with an RC, something to test when the game comes out. We'll have to play around with j.2C fatal combos in training mode overall, because I tried adding, to the j.2C SoD 6A 6B 6A j.2C j.D 2B 5C 2C j.2C combo which currently works (I think), dash 2B 5C etc. but it whiffed, maybe I timed it wrong, only tried once and it was in a match, but I felt my timing was the same as when I do the 3C combo, so I think we'll have to optimize it with something else. (or I'll just blame st1ckbug's tv if it ends up actually working ) What I felt was weird about CSEX was being unable to jump cancel 2C on block, but whatever, I guess I'll just have to end my blockstrings with 3C jump cancel/5C drive or special cancel, but that means less time to react to stuff like crouching hitboxes because I would always autopilot into 2C whether hit or block on a ground string. Air super is cool because if you accidentally input wrong and end up jumping during your input, the move still comes out

There's probably going to be a marvel, ae, and kof tournament, since mtlsf is doing something. BTW it's cause it's foonzo's re-opening day. Check the mtlsf facebook for info. -

Yo blade how did you know I hacked into nini's account and posted from it... no wait I didn't. Y u dodge though? Come after your exam, not like we're gonna start before like 8PM anyways. I will likely be at this event, hopefully they still have a CRT so we can do some GG. -
Aginor, you want input? Wouldn't be much to say but I could think of a thing or two. Solar, y u no 6C 5D SoD 66D 214D? Much better than 6C 5D 6D 236D. When I feel greedy fancy I go for [D] setups. It's always good to know more setups though, because eventually they'll figure out how to counter them. Do more RC combos. I know it's kind of hard to keep track of whether or not it's worth it depending on starter or meter when you're in a tournament situation, but what I do is just RC every time if I have the meter for it, since at least by keeping the combo going I'll build back some and get superior oki+corner carry in general. Also, I don't like how you place steins up high after tao's air combo. I barely ever play this matchup (actually I think I only played like <10 games vs a tao in CS2, but some was against xdest's), but there's no point in placing many steins if you're gonna just block after (it gives your opponent time to think about what they're gonna do as well), and they'll also make it really hard to predict where command laser will go. What I do vs Rachel, which should be similar to tao since they both sometimes end their combos with you high in the air, is I fall a bit to see what's up keeping my airdash so I'm not necessarily forced to block, or just airdash right away if I'm in the corner so I'm not forced to block in the corner, then wait a bit and maybe use 236A if they're not in my face, but at an angle where they can't run under it, or steinxx236A, or j.C if their approach corresponds. If I have enough steins out, sometimes a 236D on the way down will just keep them afraid to start something. Saw you do gold burst 6B in the corner, imagining it was supposed to be 66 crossunder 5B, but crossunder 5C is better. Although maybe because of the lag 5B being faster would be the safer choice... You did crossunder 2B into 5C at some point, hope that was a missinput, not only is it really slow, point blank 5C is a bad idea overall, unless maybe it catches jump out attempts? For the tao matchup more specifically, at some point you SoD'd into the corner but decided to stay back and set up. Against most of the cast this is OK, but against tao, she has no meterless reversal, and has a better neutral game than you (IMO), so you're better off running up and pressuring her immediately. I may be wrong because I don't play the matchup a lot, but I prefer fighting tao either air to air, or ground to ground. (as opposed to air to ground or ground to air) She has so many ways of making your anti airs whiff, and jumping in on her is hard. 5C and 236A however beat a lot of her grounded options, and j.A,B,C, j.2C and airthrow are all good against tao in air to air if you know when they should be used. Close to the ground j.2C might be slow, but it covers a lot of space, so you want to let them know it's a tool you have, just don't abuse it because it's really easily punished.

I'll be in Toronto around Christmas to see family, but I won't be there that long. Only day I where I can do something would be the 26th. Let me know if you guys happen to have a meetup or something on that day, I'll keep checking this thread.

Rhannmah, meetup de GG chez brice a soir? On peut aussi ammener umvc3/bbcs2. Viens sur le chat si tu veux. -
That's implying people will think clearly in a match, which is really not the case for a tournament. I can't count how many times I've blocked a burst after airthrow RC 6B (2), or 6B (1) (react to the burst animation) RC. 6C FC 5D 214D dash forward wait is also effective. I'm talking more about when you think you've read your opponent and are positive they'll burst. Maybe something like this (though I don't know if the combo actually works) : (frametrap/reset, opponent is around 4k hp, has a burst) SoD FC in corner, 2C j.A j.B j.C j.2C 2B 6A j.ABC2C 3C omohikane. You OS j.4AB so if they burst you just block. Opponent will likely burst either on the first way up, because they want to make sure you're not going to fail your hitconfirm first, or on the second way up, because they think "oh shit he's going for the kill, and he didn't bait the first time so he prob won't bait now". If he bursts at the wrong moment, you win. If he bursts at the right moment, he would have gotten it anyways. If he doesn't burst, you win. And yes this is a situation that is likely to happen in a match, I really like to use resets ex : 2A 2B 5C SoD 5B 5C 6C 5D j.B j.C j.2C ]D[ resets, mash tech out SoD fatal! and it usually consumes a burst. disclaimer : I'm not 100% sure about what is above. please correct me if I'm wrong.

lol. my bad. I don't know how I saw that wrong in my defense they both have the same p1 It's not just the JP mu players though, I've been to 4 majors for CS2, saw probably 1 or maybe 2 others than me using j.2C j.D 2B at all, but even I don't use optimal combos on all the starters. I find it hard to not autopilot into the former hitconfirms (6C corner, 2C midscreen, 3C midscreen), I'll try to put more effort in extend.
-
I don't think anyone brought this up yet, but it looks like something really important we've overlooked. Burst safe combos (and setups), might as well look into them while waiting for CSEX since they shouldn't change much. (well of course there's no way to make j.2C burst safe, but I'm talking about the rest, since not everyone realizes that) Since mu gets good oki, sometimes it's worth it to sacrifice damage if your opponent has a burst available. Can't test atm, but maybe adding j.A to the corner loops by removing a rep, or something? Also, I think j.6[D] setup might be the perfect burst bait since you don't have to commit to anything in order to hitconfirm your mixup, as the ]D[ does it for you. I often get hit out of the following 214D by a burst.

That's the thing. IIRC, when Russel posted that it was his last T tournament, he said it was because he was going to organize a new one in spring, so it happens before Evo, not right after. No I didn't. I checked mtlsf facebook and they were pretty clear on the fact that there would be nothing besides SF/Marvel, because there won't be enough room for it. -

There's a SF/Marvel major around jan 14th that we'll see if we can/want to be a part of. The following major is in June, so we might organize something in between and time it so everyone can make it. Let us know when a good time for you is. I'm pretty sure we can use a venue we know that's downtown, and right next to a hotel, we just need to let them know ahead of time and figure things out with them. Unless I'm mistaken, I think there was going to be a new major this year in spring in Toronto. -
Great event, had a awesome time, I really hope I'll be able to make it to winter brawl. Best major I've been to yet. Shoutouts to: Those who came to our room for casuals and fun times (Toronto, LPT, omni, axis, 50-50, LK, tonberry, xie, rayza) Axis and Xie for showing me the plat matchup Leo7, 50-50 and Omni for the valk matchup Fellow mu players I met brice, keep repping canada, good shit but go learn those matchups daaamn kirbster and level5, terrible terrible performance but it's ok because it's your first us major st1ckbug and others who ran and recorded the tournaments, 8v8, exhibition, etc., good shit. xie letting us try out that extend and those posters, was really impressed by your knowledge and skill, good luck in jp those who gave a pot bonus big e allowing us to play at this awesome venue roldy, leo7, kousaka, k2, always fun hanging out with you guys. good stuff in the 8v8, and thanks for the food advice lol UNLIMITEDMARS, too funny and hype for no reason SKD and LK, good shit showing brice he still has along way to go and finally, to everyone who came out to this event oh and level5 for that wtf block wakeup dp -> counterassault a bit of feedback if it's ok, hope it's acceptable, don't see people actually do this : it would have been really nice to have teams, it's like your salty runback when you're not satisfied with your performance in singles. Maybe have sign ups during singles top 8, and then start immediately after? Maybe even have single elim teams, so it can be over pretty quickly. I was also a bit confused at the fact that even though apparently there were less entrants than last year, there was still way too much people for that small room, but I know it's almost always the case.
-
quoted for truth. Worked against axis and xie, can't need any more proof than that, outside of japan. Just no gimmicky blockstrings
