If it goes really well it could probably happen again in Nov.

Tao, as manager of Norcal thread, please remove the (?) behind the name and post the room number in the first post, as the times and location have been decided, thanks. The information I'm posting so far needs to be at the front. IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION Please make sure to park in the 7th Street Garage, as the 4th Street Garage runs the risk of closing its gates before or at 11 or 12. The 4th street garage is characteristically white, whereas the 7th is a sort of orange. When parking in SJSU's 7th Street Garage, please remember to park ON THE THIRD FLOOR AND UP, as the first two floors are for staff. Also note that the All-Day pass for 8$ will only keep your car in check until 11:59PM. Depending on the mood of the garage runners, it's possible that right after midnight they'll go patrolling for tickets. Because of this, the event may end promptly at 12AM. There is a possibility congestion may occur in some areas of San Jose due to the Japantown faire being the same day. Please keep this in mind and plan accordingly. More pertinent info will be added as it comes up.

Both. Also, confirmed for multiple setups for streaming; so long as the LAN cables are provided, it's solid.
-
Clearly this means we can play VP on the side, lol
-
Provided there are more than enough CRTs, HnK setups can happen if people bring the materials.
-
the CS Club is fully equipped with a switch in the center and direct connect internet that only requires a passcode and the SSID. No MAC filtering, no account needed, and amazingly fast upload/download speed. We have our own hook up.
-
It's a Sony Bravia, 32".
-
I think I have a component input TV (It says Component IN on the back). VGA too. Dacid's played on it fine as most others as well, so it's decidedly "lagless".
-
Foiled by the system! Argh! P.S. Still taking you down.
-
If you're playing in one only you pay 6$. The original 6 is 3$ Venue and 3$ tournament you're entering.
-
pile, I played on your device, I think it's completely solid. CURRENT SETUPS THUS FAR BASED OFF OF REGISTRATION TOTALS PS2 - 4 PS3 - 3 Game Copies GGAC - 3 BBCS - More than enough MBAA - 2 Displays CRT: 3 HDTV: 4 As of now we are are need of more CRTs for PS2 games MB:AA and GGAC. Assuming everyone brings everything they offered on the registration page, this will leave us with 3 BB setups, and 2 setups each for MB and GG. More Setups will allow for more casuals and new blood to play.

I'm considering whether to bring my SONY. It seems like we got some good matches out of in last you were over Dacid.

Sorry, I've been on a 24 hour programming marathon for CS 151. Yes,the room is right behind the elevators on the second floor of the building. Go up the stairs, turn left, then left again, next to the Math Club room. Room 227 is about right. ~Chun

...This sounds epic enough to do.

Poverty Layout of CS Clubroom: If this room is the only one open we'll have to make due with everyone being like this. However, if classrooms are available there is a possibility we can make it that much more spacious.
-
Since we don't have a 5v5 to worry about I think we can afford to start at 1PM/2PM/3PM.
-
For the record, if we do use the CS Clubroom after this, I'm down for raising the buy in back to 5.
-
If anything it's simply data for gauging the turnout. If people don't sign then brackets can be made just as easily as they were at SVGL. Pre-reg offers nothing that showing up on site wouldn't do.

The community has given me a few opinions from what I've read so far in the thread, and as host for this month's ranbat, I feel that I will be able to do NCI's name justice with those opinions and bring in new blood, while hopefully providing a relaxing atmosphere. I assure you these decisions were made not only on my personal judgment, but also on the pretense of conditions for usage of the SJSU building for holding this tournament, and other planned events/arrangements. Thank you for the form registration template, Katana, I really appreciate it. ~Chun

I'll be straight with why I made my decision. There are people on campus that are tight enough on the recent budget hikes to pay tuition that can use any help they can possibly get. Having life in a scene and people to play is better than a scene that is composed of the same people every time; that is how a scene deteriorates and eventually dies. If we become choosy about who we let in, we are only robbing ourselves of free hype and more players. If people whine about loss, there's nothing to lose here--so long as everything is done in a straightforward fashion there is little credibility to words. In fact, that is free publicity about the event. I also do not like the free model because if we have too many stragglers coming to play casuals, it will interfere with the main setups to get the tournament still on time. This is a matter of great importance that I understood from Tao when at the previous venue. Pricing flexability was also a key point; people that are hyped about BB and curious about GG and MB would be able to enter with little risk. This was my attempt to not have BB simply steal the entire show. That is why I made the choice. ~Chun

After weighting out the odds, I'm declaring this a 6$ tournament. Each pot is 3$ entry for more experimenting with other games. So 2$ goes to NCI for entering, and 1$ goes to SJSU CS Club. So effectively entering all 3 is 12$, 2 for 9, etc. Also, 10AM is the official start time, but tournament brackets will initiate at a later time to allow for warm-up casuals. This effectively will remove a need for understanding the grey area of "new". Eateries and candy/soda will be cold and on site that comes from the CS stores. There is a possibility that a classroom will be open the day of which will allow for easier access between tournaments and lower congestion. However the notice will be late, so I will diagram 2 plans when the time comes. I'm starting a tally on setups now; please do me a favor and bold if you're bringing something for sure. Also, Katana I've sent you a PM with my number, please reply back to it. ~Chun

Katana, give me your number through PM so we can discuss further details with the new information I've gotten. No one's consulted me about capacity estimates, this form setup, or weekend building information! I have the BB tournament set for 6$, with 3$ for each game, and that kind of schematic for the place. This 5+3$ is too much for newcomers, but the new player reg only fits half the bill; not everyone going to NCI will have access to this sort of pricing or registration form, as word of mouth about the campus is a huge factor into attendance. There is talk of snacks and soda concurrently being on sale during this time too, so money separation/talk is essential. I'm concerned about setting it free for newcomers. That would imply that if someone who was new to the scene excelled they're receive money. I like to think the Norcal Scene is strong enough to prevent that from happening, but you never know. A reduced entry for newcomers instead. Again, I'm stressing the importance of having a low fee for people that could be playing competitively but have not heard of ranbats in the area until now, but also allowing each respective scene a shot at the other game communities. If the GG and MB bracket organizers want to switch it up/keep it the same way then I have nothing to say about it. But damn guys, I pulled this venue, contact me! ~Chun

Power strips will be minimal since there are tons of center-table double strips in the CS clubroom that will hold like 6 setups each. I'm more concerned about setups since I expect the causal scene will want to give it a shot; I pitched the tournament and learning certain games by-play Saturday to the GameDev Club yesterday and to most people I've met. ~Chun

Yes, it's a for sure, so now the difficulty lies in Setups. I'll get a layout quickly drawn up.

Stop riding my ass about what everyone else is also commenting on, are threads not for speculation/discussion? And obviously yes, since this is the first loctest not all revolver action paths and possibilities are final because no one has had the ability to play the "full game" yet. But no good overhead combo save for Jump-Ins and Rapid 6A is already a big change from CS, you can agree this much. It's back to the spacing for gaps method of attacking in CT if current changes stay, and the fact that wallbounce counter hit no longer exists is also slightly disconcerting (But akin to CT). CH Ryuuisou wallbounce staying is good news if anything, Dacid and I agree that it probably shouldn't have auto-wallbounced in the first place for a semi-fullscreen distortion. Maybe there could be some sort of staffless combo that could create good damage by itself without assistance from the staff call back.
