  1. A Sony. I have a Bravia 32" and it gives me no problems at all, DAT BEST BUY is your BEST bet.
  2. I see, thank you. This year came about with some fresh blood because of the previous graduation. I feel it is the best chance to get newer blood into the scene by arcade advertisement and word of mouth. It's true, the casual scene that feels they have no chance will not apply; however, consistently keeping the fee low makes the entrance into tournaments more attainable, as the lower the fee, the lower the intimidation to eventually join up, and first price impressions are lasting. I don't expect a packed room Oct 2, but I'd like to plant the seeds to create a web of communication through the freshmen in dorms and open more eyes through the people that come by. The funny thing is people that play BB and GG have been hidden. They have no reason to talk or mention that they play the game because there is no place to bring the topic up; I learned that 4 people last year that were in the Club did play BB and asked me about the game since I was watching match videos. I've seen in the last few times I visited the SJSU arcade 3 people that I don't recognize playing GG; I plan to talk to the arcade to accept posting a flyer about the event. In other news, two weeks ago I was invited to a dorm room to play BBCS due to the NCI videos, and played with 7 people that had the game for a few hours. They expressed interest in learning characters better (3 of them wanted to learn Taokaka, then two Ragnas, and two Makotos). Two club officers expressed interest in GG since hearing and playing BB. Melty Blood is notably less popular but many have heard of the game since the EVO tournament. I'm saying SJSU is fresh with new players that can be grasped, especially since this venue currently is convenient to them and friendly; I do have plans to use this place again if it proves successful next month. Keeping the NCI and venue donation constant is what really matters in your long term calculation, so lowering the main pot would have more positive effects without as many negatives. ~Chun
  3. I think that's the wrong way to look at it. People that have actively told me they'd like to learn the game will consistently go and enter for fun so long as the opportunity to play and learn from other players exist. I mean, we got DrayneO during the the SVGL all-day passes by association. More people is always good, and encouragement towards others to enter to understand how it all goes down is better. Any extra attendance, no matter how small, is good. I again do not understand why the press for 8$ still exists. GG and MB players also exist on this campus; if this isn't a major but a sort of intermediary part of the scene, why push the high fees? Did the lower-fee buy in for MB and GG not help the attendance and interest for those games as well, despite the model being different than Eudamonia? People that travelled to Eudemonia will throw in to learn from the best around. Making it low potentially gets more local play to throw in too. But this is for the GG/MB organizers to agree or disagree with.
  4. You know as well as I do she'll theoretically fall some, that's about it if CS2 changes stay in comparison to all other character changes.
  5. Then I would suggest dropping the tournament-reward pot size if there's going to be money for the investment of a future venue. In other words, rather than 8$, drop to 5$ where 2 goes to NCI future funding, 1 goes to SJSU, and the other 2 towards the reward, or use 6$ so that 3 goes to pot, 2 NCI, etc. I also disagree about limits being 8-10$ not simply because they appear high, but they intimidate newcomers. People will be more receptive to the buy-in if it's 5 or 6 bucks, and I am 99% sure there will be a good amount of newcomers into the scene there to enter for fun and learn the game. I can already name 5 off the top of my head from just people I've met on campus; there are many inexperienced players that do want to participate. As a side note: I am against the idea of an end-of year pot/pool. This pot would make more sense if there is a consistent attendance of the same players every month paying the same risk/return; if someone doesn't go to 90% of the tournaments then goes to the last event, does it not seem fair to the one who came to every single one? This disparity concerns me. Sorry if it seems like a lot of negatives but I'm doing a lot of thinking on my part for the advertisement and hooking front here. ~Chun
  6. That seems too high. It seems in bad taste to take 2$ for NCI future and give 1$ to SJSU CS Club when the venue is free already, in my opinion. If you're going to 8, we might as well lower the overall 5$, or balance the two extra fees so that SJSU is equal to or more. ~Chun
  7. Currently the Venue is free; basically any sort of the pot (whether it be 10% or 25%, depends on how generous the scene is feeling) is appreciated since the burglary bankrupted our funding. I had the interest of putting it up as the usual 5$, then taking 10% of the pot to the club for each respective game. I'm not sure if we want to pursue the lower-fee-per-game model. ~Chun
  8. We are CONFIRMED for October 2nd. Approximately 10AM to Midnight in Macquarrie Hall, SJSU. On this Map, MQH if you've never been to San Jose State. http://www.sjsu.edu/about_sjsu/visiting/campus_maps/maps-legend/ Further info on venue setups and information on parking etc. to come if no one else finds it. The closest and most convenient parking garage will be the 7th Street Garage, and will cost 8$ all day to park. Or you can find some residential area and hoof it. Part of the pots will go towards the CS Club for hosting. Looking forward to the turnout! Any questions and I can answer them. ~Chun
  9. GLADLY. BBCSII loc says possible current-Rachel-tiering for her, and Rachel tier going back to normal; your waifu, playable again!
  10. FFFF tagers to do 5K on . Good to hear there was a good turnout though.
  11. It's looking like I'm not making this; Orion isn't picking up and Dacid hasn't given feedback so I don't think I have a ride halfway. ~Chun
  12. I will run October 2nd by the President first thing Monday.
  13. Some of these changes suck, but the tier drop does put me at ease; no more accusations of tierwhoring, it's back to my loctest CT days... but it looks so bad for her right now ^^;; Welp, time to make up damage in Resets!
  14. If people have any questions about the venue, do let me know and I can answer them. ~Chun
  15. ...ok... Welcome back to CT techs, lol. Lol 4D is no longer an overhead? What overheads does Litchi have now that 6A doesn't combo? Priority sounds about right. The tackle had strong clashing ability and beat a lot of things. There goes most of the normal sequence of ground pick ups... I think she might drop a tier with these changes.
  16. The room is open so long as someone of authority is there (Whatever morning to whatever night, ideally 12-1 AM). To put it simply, free reign with officer approval in advance, on any given Saturday. However, everything is on my ass to make sure the room will be okay afterward, since previously a Smash tournament was held there a couple of years ago, and things went missing/crappy. I have every confidence that people from MB/GG/BB will be that much better than that. Doesn't hurt that some of the former officers/president are interested in learning GG and BB too. Also, it is possible to get direct connected streaming hooked up; the club has its own access to a network. The arrangement of a date which we can do this can be as soon as the first Saturday in October.
  17. If it's possible I can get a ride to the tournament, I'll bring my setup (PS3 DLC). I won't have a LCD but I'll have a normal TV for use if anything.
  18. The SJSU CS Club AND classrooms in Macquarrie Hall ARE FREE FOR USE. President says I just need to give them a date and we can use this for the further monthlies. This room will be empty on Saturday afternoons. We are also cleared for CLASSROOMS for more setup. Again, THIS VENUE IS FREE SATURDAYS FROM AFTERNOON TILL BEFORE MIDNIGHT. THIS VENUE IS FREE EVERY MONTH. However, the club was recently robbed over the summer, so if people are down, part of the pots will go to the CS Club for funding of club activities. ~Chun
  19. In regards to the previous season's monthly ranbat schedule, since the loss of DeVry rooms as I've read, I went up to my SJSU CS Club officers and went "How do you shot club rooms during the weekend till late" and they're like "Uh, we just do when we want to", and I'm like, "There's power cords and tables everywhere, and we need money since we were robbed over the summer, how about hosting the tournaments", and they're like "Maybe, let's talk more about it." So I'm in favor of the idea of continuing 1 day a month gatherings for ranbats still, but these won't work for say a major Eudemonia crowd or SUPER NCI; that could be reserved for something more bi or tri-monthly in the venues SJ and Coopa are looking at. Also, I keep stumbling into people that play BB/Want to Play GG/Play MB casually on campus. This could help grow the scene.
  20. Everyone appreciates what you did for NCI, that's not the point being contested here, everyone including myself things you did a great job with it and were glad to have you do so well with it. Been biting my lip for a couple of days now, but your tone of voice to everyone in Northern California after NCI; it's extremely condescending, disrespectful, and rude to the current community and the thoughts of the people currently working on the next. You're on the complete delusion that no one in this region knows how to manage a tournament, and continually spout about how Norcal is lazy, flunkie, and overall incapable of doing simple tasks on both youtube and dustloop threads, which is weakening the image you created. We go way back since CT Tao, but you're really being overbearing, and not for the greater good. Have faith in the NCI hype you helped generate before and leave the work in the next person's hands. Get the feedback from the previous for the next. Don't pull a Jay Leno on the scene after your own decision to take a break.
  21. Short Feedback: Let Scott and Sean do their thing, they're more than capable of doing so.
  22. I have confidence in the new heads of NCI for their current farther north plans. I just wanted to mention the options SJSU since the school year began in a worst case scenario. One reason why the Berkeley venue was more favorable was because the tournament date was scheduled right before the SJSU school year began, which meant special pricing due to shorter building hours, special requirements from staff because the school year hadn't started yet, and the day of August 28th was literally an Open House/Staff Meeting Weekend. Now that school starts once more, the rates that were originally much higher fall to their flat all-day rates, so the previously proposed ballrooms are now a more flexible option. The summary of previous snags were that doors just closed and ended at 5PM; clubs have various meetings in the building tilll at least 9 PM standard with the year's beginning. However, the hours are not updated yet for this year's after budget cuts, so I could be wrong on this; this was before the previous summer, so this is justification. However, I've also been actively figuring out how to hold meets in the class buildings with outsiders, as the CS Club was able to hold a local Smash tournament late at night till nearly overnight last year. LAN parties of the past also allowed access to classroom setups inside buildings, with projectors. It's an alternate idea from the SU that I've put on standby but are not 100% on. If the reasoning for not SJSU is because of the parking situation or a dislike for the San Jose Area, then I can accept that, that's why I'm saying it's a backup. As a side note, any plans to continue monthlies for BB at all? P.S. Yes, I know that wasn't the first NCI ever, I obviously meant BB-wise. I've read the threads through, just never attended them because I didn't play GG/MB. ~Chun
  23. Just want to add as a side note that I can always pull a venue out of SJSU if it's needed through club connections since the regular school year has resumed again; it'll be during the normal time and the SU won't close so early like it did in summer, most organizers have my info if any plans fall through. ~Chun
  24. Shout out to Shining Aquas, I introduced myself to you and you looked at me like I was some sort of alien. Keep up that awesome commentary. ~Chun
  25. There are too many people to shout out to... I usually don't shout out much because I can't write short appreciation. Well, a loop of Chiaki Takahashi's voice and Litchi candy will get me through it. Since Litchi is always first in my book, I will talk Litchis first. I'm so glad I got to fight more mirrors; being the only Litchi in Norcal tournaments was getting lonely. Kennyon: It was a lot of fun playing you in the MM and surprisingly in 2nd round. I learned a couple of new things about the mirror and are thinking over different approaches for future matches. Let's play again some time; once I get around to polishing my theory (And not horribly sucking due to a worn down D button and lag) I'll post a new thread guide. I hear you're quite the chef from friends, maybe I should ask for a karaage match, hahaha. Zenmetsu/Max: A solid Litchi, I enjoyed watching your iteration on the loops and the match you had in top 8. I think like Ken you both have the execution to do so much more damage output than the loops you are doing now, with actually less effort, www. I'll definitely inform you both first when I get some solid data down. Thanks a lot for letting me borrow your stick in my unfortunate last match. Severin: It's ok, I forgive you for dodgemonkey-ing our MM, because you were a pretty cool guy. We never got to play unfortunately. We'll trade Ara-Aras eventually, I look forward to it. Now for Norcal, in no particular order. Coopa: Without you, I'd lose to the biggest of tager gimmicks in the world. Let's keep talking tactics, for SECTOR SEVEEEEEEEEEEEN. No homo. Dacidbro: Hey man, we were in another tournament! Except like, there weren't any warthogs, so you were probably hella disappoint. The fact I could take a couple matches off you in the course of all things makes me feel a little better about myself as a BB player, thanks for the pep talks and the support up until now. I'll make you give me that 5$ back soon! OrionXElite: We're so salty! But it's ok, we'll qualify the next NCI 5v5 for sure! Always fun having dinner and talking about things with you. You're no longer Mr. Quiet Tager Guy in my book, it's all hype, all the time. Noej/Kelvin: So uh, I added you on facebook, dude, how was I supposed to guess unless you told me outright, lol. Don't worry about the 5v5 button problem anymore, I'll see you around campus and I'll just have to defeat you next qual! Ginseng: YOU SO TROLL. But it's ok, it's great having you as a friend to help me work out my information and helped me practice some strings. Too bad I can't play SCII, then you can beat my turtle photon cannons until you GG yourself. Tsubaki for top tier in BB:CSII! PhaneonH: Thank you so much for the ride home. I'm convinced I should start playing GG again. I really enjoyed the talk we had on the way, and glad you made it. Scott/Spirit Juice: We didn't get to play at NCI, oh well, it's not like you'd play your waifu or anything. But hearing your salty commentary makes any tournament worth it, for sure. Thanks for the brackets and the hype! Aginor: Nice work on the brackets, we live so close but we don't play, wut up with that, wut up with that[/sNL]. Last I heard you're playing Mu, not Noel; if you have the time I want to learn that match up. Keep taking that money! Goryus: Good seeing you, didn't get to play! I need to learn me some more sadistic robot strats. Thanks for the kind words. Rin: Dammit you so furry. I mean, man, so so furry. Hypedogs and colon three. Thanks for recording exactly one match for me to study; your camera doesn't ruin me anymore! I'll just have to show my best combos in matches since you opted me out for baloney. Don't hurt yourself doing all that Uploading, we need you for the future[/selfishgains]. Seriously, thanks for your work. TaoFTW: We will miss you furry commandant JohnKR. Good going for the first NCI. I'm sorry I couldn't have contributed more from the research into SJSU on Family Vacation, but no one seems to remember I tried to help anyway, hahaha. We'll be waiting for your catface return, you have 500 fans on stream who are as well. Willy: The Pho place we went to was amazing, and search your feelings, you know all of them to be noodles. Vineeth: You got a lot better with Hakumen (See: A lot more annoying for me to fight), and I look forward to seeing even harsher combos without drops. Gotta string 'em like Filip, and make Litchis like me more irritated! 2GB: Your combos are fun to watch as always. Sometimes it seems like you crumble once a string of yours or mixup is completely blocked. If you work on those entrances, I think you'll be even more dangerous; we'll play again eventually at SVGL! STenSatsu: Sorry for being a little salty after our match. I swear setup 3 was lag-cursed, I didn't win a single match on that monitor or get inputs out on it all day. Next we meet I'll give you more of a fight. We need to play more Mr. FBRin, Gin can't be the only Tsubaki ChunandRice learns from! Honnou: You're just a cool dude man. When I get the time to play GG at some lengths, we do more Isuka 4Ps! See you next tournament! And now, SoCal: Xie: Man, I didn't play you at all. Next time you're up I definitely want to experience some of that major stream trolling, hahaha. Stay cool. Zong_ONE: Thanks for the matches, no matter how buzzed you were, that Carl is still pretty scary to fight. Glad we finally got to play some, and you're probably glad that 3$ is in your pocket. See you again, keep rocking that awesome stick of yours. Mike_Z: Nice to finally meet you, I'm very impressed at the fact that Skullgirls is scratch-coded. Next we meet I'll fight Soviet Damage with Chinese Medicine! Ban--er Makoto Camero: It was good to finally meet you, the man behind the name of troll-age on forums. Good to play another Makoto, thanks for that MM, I learned a great deal from it and appreciate the patience to get me a clip of my play from that day. Till we meet again, "X" Camero. Pulsr: Dammit man, I only played your Ragna. Next time I hope I can play your Mu, that tutorial guide was all kinds of fancy. ...and Misc. Koogy: Great seeing you, I'm waiting on that shirt that displays my undying affection for Cigarette Man/Kokushi Musou/Thirteen Orphans super. You should play BB more often, your match was hype. Haunts: We didn't talk much but you moved in and out of that setup a lot so you probably saw me tons of times. Thanks for the hosting of the stream and your contribution to the BB community. Bohemian Polka: That wave on stream was for you, I saw the chat! PNW needs to make a second trip, we need to see more awesome Rachels! Chaos90 + Friend : I apologize I don't remember both your names from McDonalds, but it made me happy you recognized me from the convention, good to meet you both. Please try to make more tournaments, the more the merrier! For anyone I missed, I am glad to have re-met/met for the first time/met IRL with you! I'm so tired! It's 5AM! I have class! I am out of candy! I have type A blood! I hope the time I spent writing this was worth it! Till next tournament! ~Chun
