There's a 115% chance the costumes are on disc as every major retailer offers a different set as a pre-order:

Gamestop - X-23, Storm, Chun-Li, Morrigan

Amazon - Dr. Doom, Sentinel, Strider, Akuma

Best Busy - M.O.D.O.K, Crimson Viper, Wesker, Super Skrull

the worst part, almost all of the "DLC" costumes look like ass, at least i know that im not missing anything for not buying them

All of Vanilla SF4's costumes were on disc.

All of SSF4's costumes were on disc before the AE costumes (those had to be patched in, hence the costume catalogs).

Capcom will never stop doing this until the day they go bankrupt, which will be never given their incredibly effective yet extremely dickish marketing strategy.

My only hope for a DLC costume is that Zero gets his MMZ/Omega outfit. Haters can kiss my shiny green z-saber.

As for being a transparent Herald? WUT? What's the big deal regarding that? Any special features?

... That's my team D;

I've mained Strider since MVC1, Zero was my go-to guy in MVC3 and I chose this team as soon as Vergil was announced in this thread, so :P ! Deal with it.

"I used them first so they're mine!" :kitty:

If Megaman is fucking DLC in this game, I'm buying this.

I'm confident enough to put money on that possibility.

*Blade has mained Strider as of April XX, 1998, 04:15 P.M. CST at Time-Out Mall Arcade in Southridge Mall in Greenfield, Wisconsin and played him continuously for the remainder of the year to the detriment of his allowance in High School.*

Time-Out has long since gone in favor of an animal shelter, but...my memories remain. :kitty:

Also I play Strider 2 on PSP and Moon Diver on PS3...DO YOU???? :arg:

the hate against DLC chars would be always amaze me

at this point, i think that its plain ridiculous and i should say, stupid to think that they are more problematic than yearly (or in the case of this game a few months) releases, they expand the game life and in the end are more convenient in general, they have more pors than cons

I think it is an inferior alternative to working on a new game in the case of ASW, and loathsome money-grabbing in the case of capcom.

I don't think they do much to expand the life of a game quite honestly, at least not in the competitive department - casual gamers get excited when something new comes out, and game theorists like having a new character to work on, but unless the new character is proven to be really effective in the metagame, they'll end up being useless mass to the competitive players - like Jill and Shuma ended up being.

Ultimately it doesn't matter how many characters a game has, what matters is if the game is fun to play or not and if the characters are interesting to play as or not. So DLC characters are, by nature, completely superfulous. What's more, they add a problem of general coherency - taking the example of Continuum Shift, there are not only as of now three entirely different versions of the game (1, 2 and Extend), but both 1 and 2 have several different "versions" depending at which time you played them and which characters were available. I remember a time when in my zone, when someone said that there was a blazblue tournament being held, it wasn't always clear what metagame we would have to play in. I'll agree that this is because the people that hosted those tournaments had little understanding of the game and it's community, and thus weren't communicating with us, but this wouldn't have been a problem in the first place without them.

In the end I can say that as for me, I have a slight nevrosis that makes me want to have everything sealed in neat little packages - simply put, the idea of downloable pieces of data with no physical existence is just irking. I could have my BB blueray and it wouldn't, in and of itself, allow me to play the blazblue I wanted on it. I would have to download additional things.

Call it silly, I don't really care. I just simply hate that thought.

And that's what an emo would say

This whole "X is a crybaby" thing needs to die, seriously. It's like you guys just all picked up X7 and decided that this is where the franchise started and ended.

I lol'd.

So far, Capcom has "released" in its game 2 DLC characters, both of which were on disc (and unfinished in the case of Shuma Gorath).

ASW has added 3 characters to their main game, two of which at least were not on the disc (I'm not entirely sure for Makoto).

So as you can see, there is no comedy to be found anywhere in that statement.

That's silly.

Just kidding, that's not silly and you raise good points, but I disagree on some.

DLC mess up Tournament consistency because of character disponibility, true. But as far as different game versions, I think any respectable (or non-sucky) Tournament ought to have the last version, since it's supposed to be free anyway. I think you're directing your anger at the wrong target here, consider the Sentinel nerf patch, was it directly related to Jill and Shuma's inclusion to the cast? That changed metagame like hell, to the point that Sentinel was dropped off of half the teams he was in before (which was 100%).

In the other end, you claim they do not expand the life of a game in the competitive department, but that's much more due to Capcom's general incompetence in balancing new stuff - the characters could very well be overpowered or underpowered, and ended up being the latter. Comparing it to BB scenario, Platinum is kind of used here and there, but Makoto and Valkenhayn are very popular in Tournament, so I'd say it does change the competitive scenario. Back to MVC it doesn't help that Jill was not the Jill we loved (or liked at least) and Shuma was never really popular.

DLCs that are on Disc are completely inexcusable though. And Capcom put itself in a bad spot with UMvC3, because Jill and Shuma are OBVIOUSLY in the disc now, but people have JUST bought them and would feel even more ripped-off than people who only bought the original game do. So they're keeping it as DLC even though it makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't think Capcom really cares about that though, it seems they can do whatever they want with the fanbase and get away with it...

(And I can't wait to give her more money with UMvC3 grr...)

I would like it if it ended, too. Seriously, or do I have to start deleting posts, giving infractions, and modding this topic? :v
