Ctrlaltwtf Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Incorrect, you can hold any button to Emergency Tech as soon as you can. You can only tech before getting knocked down. So if you delay past that point, you won't be able to get up for some time. ...Yeah, see my following post.
Kurushii Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Well, I call it Emergency Roll just because that's what its been called in every BB ever. The Training menu calls it "Ground Recovery." The localization team picked that translation. In the Japanese version it's 緊急受身 which is Emergency Ukemi. Ukemi has a much bigger meaning than just roll. The English community uses the term Emergency Tech (as you'll see on the wiki). Also for P4U they continued to use the term ukemi in the arcade and console Japanese versions.
Ctrlaltwtf Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Isn't "Ukemi" basically something like "rising action"? (no real perfect English equivalent) Like "something you do while getting back on your feet after getting knocked down." I'm not arguing I'm just clarifying.
mAc Chaos Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Hold a button when the combo starts and the direction you'd like to tech in. In BB, you can tech forward, backward, or neutral (if you don't hold a direction). That is only in Persona. In BB you don't hold it, you have to hit the tech button at the right time. Or mash it.
mAc Chaos Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Oh, he mentions Agito. So he was playing CP. I will miss getting people with tech traps and hitting them out of their mashing. At least now I can pretty much decide when they tech since they will be holding it down the entire combo probably.

At least now I can pretty much decide when they tech since they will be holding it down the entire combo probably. Honestly I think it'll make tech traps easier, because now it's much more likely they'll consistently tech ASAP.
Isuna Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Don't really see how this would be the case with the system as described, since according to the descriptions folks have posted here, playing people who are ranked worse than you gets you nothing, and only by defeating players of your rank will you advance? If I remember correctly, with PSR you got like four times as much for winning as you lost for losing, so even with a low winrate having 1000 matches probably ranks you higher than having a better winrate with only 100 matches. That said, I never played much online, neither have I played much CP. So I could be completely wrong. Isn't "Ukemi" basically something like "rising action"? (no real perfect English equivalent) Like "something you do while getting back on your feet after getting knocked down." I'm not arguing I'm just clarifying. "Ukemi" is often used in judo etc, where it usually gets translated as "falling techniques", hence "(falling) tech(niques)".
Agni Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 That is only in Persona. In BB you don't hold it, you have to hit the tech button at the right time. Or mash it. I thought mashing tech made it more likely to not tech at all? I remember being told that mashing tech is a bad idea if you're getting comboed.
Moy_X7 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 No... Where did you hear that? If you don't mash tech, you're prone to eating blue beat combos. You just have to be careful and not overshoot the mashing after the tech flash or else you'll eat a "dropped combo reset" lol. Well that and tech traps. During air combos mash A, react to the tech flash, and stop mashing immediately after that. If you're going to emergency tech or recover from a stagger, one push is all that is needed. Of course don't mash buttons (unless you have a defensive move) when you're eating a ground combo or else you'll eat a "dropped combo frame trap" lol tl:dr - Mash A during air combos but be aware of tech traps, push a button once for emergency techs and stagger recovery, and don't push any buttons during ground combos.
Agni Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Oh. Well then. I think that person may have actually said "Donmt mash tech so much you eat a frame trap or reset"... In any case it's moot since CP features hold-to-tech.
Airk Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 In any case it's moot since CP features hold-to-tech. To be yours sometime in the undefined future. :P In the meantime, yes, the mechanics of teching still matter. Oh, and random aside: If you're going to emergency tech or recover from a stagger, one push is all that is needed. This seems both true and false - yes, you technically only need to press the button once to recover from stagger, but then, you technically only need to press the button once to escape a blue beat combo to. Since no two staggers in the game are the same length, it's not as simple as "just push a button to recover from stagger".
mAc Chaos Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Well, mashing tech in CP is worse than holding the tech button. Because if you are going to mash tech, you have to hit the tech button at the exact moment that it is possible to tech. If you're mashing you are hitting it imprecisely and it's possible to just overshoot or undershoot that split second where you can tech. Whereas if you are just holding the button down you are constantly ready to go the instant the moment is available.
Moy_X7 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Like someone said before, the thing about blue beat combos is that they could happen from a would be "legit combo". So if they mistime their confirm by a frame or two, it might turn into a blue beat combo. You never know when your opponent will drop a combo and I'd rather not take any chances. As for staggers, yes they have a different length depending on the character and the move, you just have to learn how long the stagger lasts for that move by that character. Staggers are consistent, blue beat combos can happen at random. Consistent in a way that the same move from that same characters will always stagger for a set amount of time, a bit longer on CH. There's not THAT many moves that can cause stagger so it's not too farfetched to learn the timings for the commonly used ones like Ragna's 22C. @ Mac - I believe that we're talking about CSE at this point. There's absolutely no reason why you should mash in CP and take the chance of overshooting the mash or missing the teching time when you can just hold a button and tech perfectly for free.
