Arc Raizen Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) Yeah, Plastic Night is totally ruined. One of the best songs, now garbage. The intro in the original set such a great feel for both the song and the character and the initial guitar riffs set a great pace for the song while just being simple and badass. The new intro is just worse and the guitar riffs I mentioned...they just totally removed them. The way to remix a song is not to literally remove the parts that defined it. It seems like they absolutely ruined all my favorite songs: Plastic Night, Howling Moon, Cross Line...all terrible now. Edited February 7, 2013 by Arc Raizen
Vulcan422 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Thoughts on recent OST stuff Queen of rose: Feels like they just updated the sound quality and added a new bridge, which is not a bad thing. Reppuu: Sounds less Gurren Lagann-y and more Super Robot Wars-y. Definitely more manly. SUSANOOH: HUGE improvement over the original. The Japanese instruments and the guitar now mesh together much more fluidly. Gluttony Fang: This version has transcended the limits of sexiness. Plastic Night: It feels much more menacing and less classy, which sort of weakens it a bit IMO, but it is still good. Justice Sword: Very fitting for someone who's come out of the darkness and is now beginning her own journey to find the true meaning of her ideals. Sounds a bit Sonic-y like Bullet's theme.
heavymetalmixer Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 For me with the exception of Justice Sword, all those themes sound like oversaturated.

Skye Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I suppose I can chip in. Rebellion II - The double guitars is a nice pitch to work on, as well as the organ, I wish that was used more, it would have done the song a lot of justice, right now it really feels kinda meh, and I have this longing for it to be better, but alas. The organ was wasted and underused, which makes this song disappointingly average. Bullet Dance II - I don't see what people are saying about this song, I like it. It's a kind mesh of synths, unique drum work and kinda maggot guitar work, which works. I was never a fan of the original Bullet Dance, and don't get me started on Love So Blue, but this is a good change of pace to Noel. It also oddly fits her. The pacing is quick and hype, I really like this one. The guitar shares face time with the synth in the right increments. Good bass work too. Lust SIN II - I like it, Daisuke picked the perfect instruments to this piece and managed them in great harmony. The tonality of the piano is more recessive, which works to the song's credit, allowing for proper juxtaposition of the rest of the instruments, it's more elegant, less menacing. Queen of Rose II I have to agree with everyone here who says that this song screams of Star Ocean half way through, I'd like to hear more of this song more than the others. The violin is a great addition, as well as the choir, which I hope I hear again at some point in the song, if just only once more. The drums have a great new feel to song, I also agree with those who say it isn't really fitting, once it goes SO on us, it's hard to picture this as the theme for a conceited princess who enjoys her time with tea and sadistic punishment of her underlings...well I guess the sadistic punishment thing, but that's not what Rachel is dominantly known for. You feel more of a classy and well kept feel from her, which doesn't fit the rocking synths and high fret/amp guitar work. More kudos to the drums. Gale II - I'm filing this under "conflict of interest", it's weird when you try to give the themes a different but similar feel, because it seems like Daisuke took this too far in that direction for this piece. There are some good parts here where originality shines, but it's too much like the old theme for me to appreciate it completely. I can see this and the original being perfectly interchangeable, that is until the small bit before the demo cuts off where I hear some pretty amazing shit, I definitely need to hear the full song. The main difference between this and the original is that this one feels like it's telling a story, and I love songs that follow that structure. Susanooh II - I've already voiced my peace on this, but I'll go again. This sounds sinister as hell to me. The extra guitar and the opening riff does it for me, it adds a powerful amount of gravity to the normally passive feel of the original. It definitely has a "shit's gone get fucked" feel to it at several points, for objectivity's sake, I'll point out that I didn't really like the original all that much. I love Susanooh II, it's my favorite theme of the ones I've heard. I think a pan flute would have perfected this song so hard. The small use of the synth will have to suffice. Gluttony Fang II - Jazzy Bebop, then guitar. It's a shamploo of sorts, The guitar seems to try to get out of background in comparison to the original, but then the piano refuses to be shown up, so it feels like their fighting as some points, except for the chorus, which is well mixed and harmonious. Having listened to it again, I can feel at a few spots, where the piano does add a lot of body to the song, and the bass work is amazing and needs to come out a bit more. I do like it, though I still think it's overrated. Plastic Night II - Damn. "Welcome to the End". That's what this song is telling me, during the into at least, then it calms down a bit, while still delivering some good pieces. This song felt like it should have been a bit faster, especially on the drums, the chorus tells me this vibrantly. What I like the most of this song is the reason I liked Gale II so much, it feels like a story, and more importantly it feels like a BB theme. The original Plastic Night sounded like it belonged more in Hard Corps Uprising. It's not as menacing as I originally thought, but it makes up for that with some surprising creativity and pacing. Good use of organ, it teams up perfectly with the rhythmic guitar. This is what Rebellion II was missing. The bass needs to be kicked up a notch, it's hard to hear, and the parts of it I can hear sound great. Justice Sword - Unique, that's what I can say about this song. I like the break down of this song. It's rather impressive. Daisuke took a simple approach with this song, and I'm never one to dog on simplicity, many things gain it's beauty through how simple it is, and this song says that, especially when the extra instruments backs this song up greatly. This might be my second favorite new character theme behind Amane's. I think the pacing is perfect, I love the dingling synth during the chorus, it mixed in perfectly. The guitar work is, as I said, simple, but good because of it. It doesn't try too hard like in Gluttony Fang II, and it shares the spotlight very well and generously. Can't really say it fits the character though, but it fits the musical direction of CP's themes. I would love to hear more of this theme. I hope this isn't it. Spirit of Fire - The opening shows promise, good piano work on this, it could stand to be louder though, then it hides during the verse, that threw me off, and the guitar is rather lonely and needs help, but has to work alone. It gives off Memory of Tears vibes, and I didn't like Memory of Tear too much, but then it comes in with more effort, still miss that piano. It's average, and much like Rebellion II, is in desperate need of an additional instrument initially used in the intro, the synths didn't help as much as the piano could. It's not a bad song, but could have been much much better. I really don't like it when instruments aren't used in proper moderation, and it's doubly sad since CP themes seems to have this fetish with additional instruments. Feels lazy a bit. xx
White Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I haven't been on the loop with Chrono and I want to know if any of you could answer the following if there is any info When will Chrono release and is it true that it will be a PS3 exclusive (sounds silly but remember reading something about this during the time it was first announced)
BlackYakuzu94 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I haven't been on the loop with Chrono and I want to know if any of you could answer the following if there is any info When will Chrono release and is it true that it will be a PS3 exclusive (sounds silly but remember reading something about this during the time it was first announced) A console release hasn't been announced yet, and atm it's only PS3 exclusive.
Narroo Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 ^ I believe it's also only been announce for Japan. It's likely to be Multi-platform in the US.
Airk Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 A console release hasn't been announced yet, and atm it's only PS3 exclusive. Do you realize that these two assertions are in fact, contradictory?
BlackYakuzu94 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Do you realize that these two assertions are in fact, contradictory? There's no release date set, but it's exclusive for one console. Sounds pretty coherent to me =/
Akujikan Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Do you realize that these two assertions are in fact, contradictory? What he means by contradictory is that if a console release hasn't been announced yet, then there has been no official or definitive statements about potential console exclusivity. So saying it doesn't have a release date, but then saying it will be a PS3 exclusive, is a contradiction. At the end of the day, its all magazine tags and speculation until someone from Arc says it isn't.
Skye Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Although a release date hasn't been announced, Mori himself said that there were problems with managing an Xbox release, so until those problems are resolved, CP console is looking at being ps3 only.

Dreiko Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 There has been a console version confirmation (obviously) but no release date for that version has been confirmed yet. In the famitsu scans where they list the consoles of the games announced there was just PS3 listed while in the past announcements of previous BB games 360 had also been included. This is all the info in existence about this. Now, people can speculate about there being a potential 360 release that is west-only (who even does this? only FFXIII did it as far as I know and BB is not final fantasy) or there being some problem with the 360 version that Mori hinted at without much detail, which can be interpreted as a Japanese way of saying they don't want to do it cause it doesn't seem worth it due to lackluster sales or may be genuine, depending on how you look at it...but in the end that's all speculation, only the above things are what we know for sure so far.

Pretty much ~ But God knows a whole load of speculates are going come after your comment o_o

First I've heard of this. o.o Well, it's their foot. They can shoot themselves in it if they want.

Dreiko Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 First I've heard of this. o.o Well, it's their foot. They can shoot themselves in it if they want. The quote, as I remember it, was a wishy-washy "I can't speak about there being a 360 version of the game right now" type of thing, to me it sounded like he was avoiding the question basically. Now, as for that being them shooting their own foot or not, who knows. Porting games costs money and if their financial guys told them that they won't be making enough of a profit to justify the port it'd be a smart business decision. Remember, they mainly look at Japan with these games (to showcase this, look at BB's history in Europe) and in Japan the 360 is beyond dreamcast levels of dead. And I don't mean dreamcast back in 2001, I mean 2013. I'm sure more people play dreamcast than 360 in Japan even to this day, it's that dead XD. (and dreamcast got a Berserk game...that's reason enough to have one imo)
SoWL Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 If I'm not mistaken, 360 is still a go-to console for various otaku genres, like VNs and danmaku shooters. Though I guess fighting games don't count.
Dreiko Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 If I'm not mistaken, 360 is still a go-to console for various otaku genres, like VNs and danmaku shooters. Though I guess fighting games don't count. That's part of the issue, it's shown to be the otaku console. There's a few things that are on it but I can't remember many not also on PCs or PS3. It tried to do that originally but while the otaku stuff may support developers like NIS and Atlus, they won't make the console a success by themselves. These developers milk their fans with all kinds of extra goodies at exorbitant prices. A console can't make use of these methods. I doubt there's any miku miku or pantsu-design 360s out even....while these games come out with mouse pads that have breasts and god knows what else. Hell, even Gal Gun got a ps3 version eventually. I think it's basically a tiny niche that plays it. The hardcore otaku who need to have every softcore eroge, every idolmaster game and every VN in existence and the people who are in the minority of Japan and like to play FPSs and stuff...who are basically our counterparts if you look at us and compare us to mainstream American game tastes. XD
mAc Chaos Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Wait what. I thought the PS2/3 was always the console to go for if you wanted JP stuff.
00Bubbles00 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Also, since officially the 360 is no longer being sold in Japan, Microsoft will likely no longer be paying any companies to go exclusive for 360 going forward.
Dreiko Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Wait what. I thought the PS2/3 was always the console to go for if you wanted JP stuff. Their only way to market 360 to Japan after it's original failure to capture the market was with a few exclusive high-level-otaku stuff. Most stuff us in the west would think of as "JP stuff" still would come out for the ps3 or sometimes dual-plat but in Japan, there's...tiers of "JP stuff". To them some stuff is just normal games (like Dragon quest) and some is otaku stuff. (like project diva Hatsune Miku games and Idolmaster)
