That's a valid point, but if you look at magic the gathering, a game where new cards are released 4 times a year, spoilers are extremely important and keep people talking about the game during low season. The complete lack of information makes people disinterested. They have nothing to talk about.

Actually, the best formula would be a gameplay changes spoiler season where a trickle of information is released every day so that people keep interest. Having just a bit of information released regularly will give fans things to talk about and generate interest about the game.

Edit: anyways, this isn't really gameplay related so let's not keep this conversation going for long. But that's just the thing; we have no gameplay details to talk about so these threads get derailed. Oh, how we've come full circle.

That's actually exactly what they did with CP 1.1, and I'm disappointed they decided against doing the same thing with 2.0. Maybe they will do it post-release, who knows. Anyways, just a week left until the patch is out, I'm getting more and more hyped about it.

Posted

I kinda feel like 1.1 is the one time they actually gave a significant list of changes, so receiving a change log should be treated more as an exception rather than an expectation. Albeit, I hadn't really started following such updates until after CSE, so perhaps this is an inaccurate assessment.

That said, they did drip some changes during articles / interviews and through command lists a while back, so I'd imagine at least those would stick.

Well, the difference between 1.1 and 2.0 is that 1.1 was simply adding things that the console already had. One couldn't build up excitement to the arcades with only those 3 characters. So the real selling point for 1.1 was the rebalance.

For 2.0 however, there is Celica to bring new players to the arcades, and if the balance changes are too bad for some reason, it could kill that excitement.

So I could see a reason to give a change log to 1.1 and not to 2.0.

Just need to wait a few more days and the forum will blow up with info.

As for Makoto 2.0 I think she actually has a chance to get out of B tier with all the nerfs everyone else is getting based on loke info we have and the new ODGC. ( I expect to see a decent amount of stolen wins with how easy it is to get great damage and carry with her OD)However, don't expect her to be S tier as some characters just have really good tools against her.

Yeah, her OD is really powerful. I actually think the power difference between normal and OD has one of the bigger gaps comparatively for Makoto. This is mostly because she doesn't do that much damage regularly, though.

What made her so good before the she has still not gotten back besides damage?

Well, they keep nerfing Comet Canon oki.  Also, in CS2 6B was 20 frames, which really fast for an overhead doesn't require any resources to combo off (Both Hazama's and Jin's are in this range too, but both of them go nowhere without meter).  Though I think the thing that contributed most to her in CS2 was the damage/corner carry (Hi, fullscreen corner to corner off 5B).

Basically, CS2 Makoto was a big middle finger to the "This character will never be good because design" school of thought, because there was nothing particularly amazing about her design or gameplan, she just had good mixup and huge damage/corner carry into solid oki.

That doesn't make much sense to me: they promote a whole new version and not just Celica and Lambda. Just see how much time is dedicated to the old characters in the latest trailer and all the streams they've been having. The console characters might as well be new for many Japanese players who just don't play on consoles, not to mention that the balance update made them quite different, anyways. And if someone doesn't like the new balance changes, the excitement is just going to die a week after release rather than a week before it - not that much of a difference from the financial point of view.

She also recived some serious hit/hurtbox nerfs in extend (almost every single attack was touched) which as far as I know was never reversed.

Example: 2A CS2 vs Extend

Any update as to whether BBCP 2.0 will be new disc or DLC update?

Although still arcade only, nothing still yet for info if 2.0 coming retail or as a patch.

This haven't been mentioned in the thread, right?

Arc Live episode 10 this Wednesday, a BBCP 2.0 tournament with many guests. Supposed to be the 1 year anniversary of Arc live since it is near that time of year (first arc live was the day before the release of BBCP for PS3).

Will we actually be able to get a stream of this or an archived video of it posted after-the-fact?

We basically have nothing to go on for changes, but actual gameplay video(s) would be a hell of a start.

For some strange reason, they seem to want to keep the development under wraps for 2.0, which I'm not sure is a good or bad thing.  We can only hope they don't disappoint.

Posted

Always prepare for disappointment so you will be surprised when something good actually happens.

I'm excited for Wednesday now because I really was expecting there to be a decent time lag between when 2.0 hits arcades and when we start getting shaky cam videos and then an even longer time between the shaky cams and a bit higher quality footage. I'm happy that we will be getting tournament footage so quickly which will be happening hopefully between Wednesday and Thursday.

Don't forget Azreal his overhead 5D is 21 frames (Haz and jin have 22 and 19 respectively.)

Then again Azreal can't get damage off his either unless he has a weakness on already. When it(weakness) is on though............

I really liked 1.1's balance though going to be sad it's going but so ready for 2.0 to learn more things!

I'm lucky to have a character that changes every iteration lol. Keeps things fresh and interesting.

My only complaints where Ragna's 2C seemed to have too fast recovery and kokonoes trap but both are very very minor.

They seemed to try and kill Hazama using 6C in corner combo's as well as are ability to do repetitions of j.5C though they gave him some serious tools to compensate as long as stance works off jabaki blocking as well as hit.

Though knowing Hazama it won't go an hour before he learns a loop lol. I will miss some things that require much more skill though I like him as a character you need to work with.

Also his 3rd chain charges so slowly :vbang:

location test changes do not count. nothing from the location tests are guaranteed to be in the final game.

having said that, some things have definitely carried over, and since the videos primarily showcased buffs, i'm certain that there are undocumented nerfs as well.
