Because that has always been a key aspect of fighting games since they became competitive? Execution requirements are all over the place in fighting games: reaction while blocking or hit confirming, delaying moves for spacing, even simply movement itself is an execution requirement in a non-restrictive system like GG's. FRCs are really nothing compared to all of those things, if someone can't overcome FRC timing when learning GG, the game just isn't for them.
-
After a 3C you want to do a few reps of 22b-22bc for max dmg almost always.
-
FRCs are already an extremely powerful tool, how does making them even better add to depth? It would just make those FRC'able moves waaay safer or more effective in combos. Considering that GGAC is already so close balance-wise that every character performs well in tournaments, doing something huge like altering tons of FRC windows would probably throw the balance off by a huge margin; not to mention that you're asking to look back and re-balance the game simply by changing specific character's FRC timing, which is beyond the scope of the topic and a fairly stupid thing to mention.
-
You could just make the FRC window 10 frames before it comes out, but still come out at the same time. FRCs are the way they are for the same reason that there is no 5 frame buffer for every button like BB has. Fighting games SHOULD have an execution requirement to play them. If you don't want any execution requirements, go play a card or strategy game.

Primarily execution difficulty makes the game more fun, although any sort of difficulty also adds depth because it can make a huge difference in how you respond to an opponent. An Eddie player will only be careful letting mawaru hit by itself if he knows the opponent can IB-> SRK or escape, and similarly a Slayer player can only be confident reacting to Baiken's ground tatami with DoT if he knows the Baiken won't react to blocked tatami with that FRC. How well an opponent punishes you for things can have huge impacts on how risky you play, since opponents who can't punish with big combos or who can't apply great pressure after knocking you down (missing FRCs could be a reason for this) allow for better risk/reward options.
-
FRCs are one of the easier things to learn in GG, if you're hitting a wall there maybe the game is too hard for you. It's like practicing shooting a basketball and saying the hoop is too small to make it fun.

Different players develop different styles, and no single one is necessarily better than another in fg (more so in gg which simply allows for more freedom). Rtsd like niga slayer can be equally as effective as ruu timing out off the screen. Fighting games are a bit different than starcraft (day9) in the sense that in sc you have to stick to a gameplan your build is based around, which means almost no major decision making in one's playstyle is decided realtime. The killer instinct needed to constantly look for holes in your opponents play to abuse is very similar though.

There is actually an arcade scene in Japan, which is what the game was designed for. GG as well as any of these fighting games are always released in arcades first for this reason; home versions of games are generally released as an afterthought (SSF4 is the first exception to this rule I think). Arcades provide a place for people to meet and play in Japan not only for casuals, but as mentioned tournaments are organized and held at these arcades as well (note that it's not always people working at the arcade who run these tournaments) Any good player can tell you how important consistent competition and working parts are, and that is exactly what arcades provide. If the entire fighting game scene in the US lived as close together as they do in Japan, we would probably have something very similar, but arcades for the most part are very rare in the US since we're so spread out, and for almost all gaming these days netplay is a good enough alternative to playing in person. Perhaps the bigger picture you don't see is that these arcades run arcade versions of the game and charge money for it because that is their only method of income (besides vending machines) to pay for the property and maintenance. In return for paying to play, the players get a public area with (hopefully) decent setups and competition, which otherwise are not available.

WANTED: translators for bbcs mook (translators: check your PMs!)
Hellmonkey replied to qwerty's topic in Archive
I'll translate Noel's -
EX characters are there as extras, and aren't balanced with the rest of the cast or even with each other. It's not that they aren't viable for tournaments because they weren't included in the arcade version, but rather if they were actually balanced and meant to be played normally they likely would have been included in the arcade version. terrible thread

I'll probably set up in byoc taking any opponents for MM, so find me there. koogy that sandwich will be extra delicious.

Play who you find enjoyable and like watching, everyone in GGAC is good and you shouldn't bother deciding your character based on strength/matchups since playing what feels natural to you will always be the best choice. There are no 3-7 or worse matchups in GGAC. Watch match vids from top Japanese players and see who appeals the most to you.

Arcade Infinity - BB:CS Tournament/Ranbat Series (OMG LOOK AT ME: 5/27/10)

That magic 8ball was spot on for every question i asked it, lol. -
Also, if evo registration works like it has in the past, being a side tourney means you're saving like $30 dollars off of entry fee that wouldn't go to the pot if you aren't planning to enter other official games.

A lot of times hos gunblazes you, he is right next to you on your wakeup and you can do 6PH which will either throw him or standing FD the gunblaze if he crosses you up in time, unless he reads it and does 6K which will CH you. It's still pretty useful.
