  1. Taking any mm in gg up to 30 dollars! Taking any mm in hnk up to 5! I'm super free since I don't play anymore!
  2. some characters (specifically ABA) have moves that stagger, but it's just there to troll you (5h CH). Most of the time though, shaking well will get you out of lots of stagger situations since many players, especially in the US, expect you not to be able to. Getting out of stagger on a pad is much more difficult than on a joystick.
  3. It should go without saying... hokuto no ken
  4. i don't think there are too many bb players willing to mm for much anyways.
  5. hey i'm missing something <- :[
  6. Tourney was great, thanks chris for making it possible! Will try to be at the next one.
  7. or we could just do it like the gg 5v5 happened in 07 where people just go around and gather up 5 people willing to throw down 50 bucks, not official or anything.
  8. Good times, nice seein you all and I will def. try to make next one! Phobos how did we not even play a match. Storm good luck winning that impossible matchup, lol. Nice to finally play GG again. Thanks for everyone involved making it happen!
  9. Yes, it's played on ps2 and pad or joystick is fine.
  10. That's the attitude which has kept the scene alive as well as it has. GG will be have a big side-event like always. I plan on winning that btw.
  11. BB:CT should definitely be removed from the lineup if BB:CS is not likely to be available. The game is terrible, and most of the community accepts this. Thankfully, BB:CS is a much better game, so there is still some merit in keeping BB in the lineup for the exposure, but I'd much rather see a game like CvS2 be included (which had by far the best finals in 2008) than an entire BB tournament which not even the BB-playing community cares about.
  12. gg...in socal.. what!? I will definitely try to make this!
  13. just 6563b, only have to be careful with the 6c not to be optic barrel. Use 2b 6c 22c 66c j.d 5c 6b 236d on hazama, ~3.6k. btw you have a lot of time after 2b to do 6c, you don't need to cancel right away.
  14. 5d 6a 6c 214a 2b 6c (bc) 6c 22c 66c sj9.d 6b 5c 236d instead of two 6c go straight to 22b against bigger hitboxes near the corner going into airborne hit j.d sooner allows you to use 4d 236d 6c 22b 22bc depending on circumstance
  15. wow totally missed this sorry. if you have any questions feel free to ask, a lot of older info may not be valid and i doubt making a matchup subforum would be particularly useful for anyone since you can always get answers in here. As for which counters beat what, that's what frame data is for if you must find out without trying it yourself! (or just watch the better baiken players and observe their counter usage)
  16. I think something like footsies in GG can only really be gone into depth on a character by character basis because of the diversity of the cast. The only general advice I'd give is to start by learning the system mechanics well, watch top level matches for your character and try to understand the reasoning behind what they do, and doing so finding your own "footsies" since what character you enjoy the most and what style of play you find the most fun will always be your most effective and fun way to play.
  17. If non west coast actually get off their asses and come like in 07 again haha The economy hit the scene pretty badly in terms of traveling I think, since both the trip and vegas are bound to cost a bit. The bigger issue is the lack of players willing to travel in the first place, not too many hungry players. I don't really see it as a bad thing that the GG scene didn't turn into something like marvel, having it as a side event for players of any level to enter with a low entry fee is pretty fitting imo. GGAC casuals at evo are always fun too. I'm totally down with the idea of a special event for this evo, if we can get confirmed heads for something.
  18. That's really not the same at all Sprt, as mentioned it's not infrequent in Japan and considering the overwhelmingly small percentage of girls that play fg and that probably none of them take it as seriously as the majority of the community, if there is interest in it I don't see any problem. If it was just decided to be held without interest in the first place, that's the only real issue... edit: the post above me put it pretty well, it's not meant to single them out for being worse at the game or anything.
  19. Yeah if it requires 50 dollar evo pass to enter as well I would expect pretty small numbers. Not enough crossover between gg/bb/mb and capcom to get enough players that are already getting evo pass willing to enter :\ Still would be nice to see though. I don't get the fuss about girl only tourney, if it's just for fun why not?
  20. Do you guys not remember last year's official GG singles? We could have close to doubled the entrants with the GG players who stood around bored at BBCT since (many) just didn't want to pay $50 for GG. I'd rather see MBAA get in the official lineup since it hasn't got a chance yet and should get one.
  21. All that shows is the poor level of players here in the us.. Any strong gg player knows how much matchup knowledge is required once you're beyond 5d, wakeup throw, slidehead mashing etc to victory. Potemkin happens to be the easiest character to learn basic combos/okizeme/gameplan as well.. In almost any new gg player's case getting basic movement (1f jump/backdash), hit confirming, and actually bothering to block will naturally allow them to develop their own playstyle better than worrying about something like footsies IMO. Once those fundamentals are there, players can start to put what they see in match vids etc into practice as well, easily the most effective way to improve without significant comp. (only after becoming comfortable with the huge amount of situational shit can a player really develop the flow in matches that gg footsies is all about imo)
  22. The thing is, worrying about these things is huge in restricted game systems but in gg getting your fundamentals up is so much more important any players looking to improve should focus on that first. You aren't going to get anything from concentrating on poking or on what your opponent is doing if you can't land your combos when you get a hit in and can't block well.
  23. Didn't read the articles in question, but "footsies" in GG work vastly differently than in capcom (or other) games from my experience. The freedom and variety in poking and movement for the GG cast, the different options on defense, and the fact that every character has at least decent pressure/okizeme really favors players that can play instinctively and fluid on either offense or defense. Probably the biggest difference between GG and most other fighters is the power of jumping, since jumping is very safe and leaves players with so many options. Unlike more restricted fighting game systems, having a good antiair normal or invincible move isn't necessary in GG to play ground to air, since throwing is so strong (to airthrow them coming in, or throwing them as they land) and backdashing/iad is very effective at quickly escaping danger or making someone whiff. You also have have the negative penalty system and meter gain from forward movement which eliminates most turtling seen in other fighting games. "Footsies" changes a lot depending on the level of play you talk about too, though. At the top level of play, maximizing damage and putting yourself in the best position (e.g. knockdown) is assumed and everything becomes risk/reward. One character can be played in many different ways effectively due to freedom GG's game system allows, which makes it much more fun for me than many other FG that leave you with one specific "best" option in almost every situation and strongly favors more conservative play.
  24. here's to hoping all the matches get released at least...
