I believe that taking a break can be beneficial, but I don't think it will ever be more beneficial than actively working through eliminating bad habits or redefining your playstyle while simultaneously improving your inputs and reactions.

Long story short I told myself I'd take a break from this game if I feel like I did poorly during the tournament (lol my Litchi). I feel that I've been getting worse and worse during the past 2-3 months so instead of getting mad at making even more reverse progress, it just makes more sense to me to take it easy on this game for a while. Will probably play more often again in 6 weeks or so when summer vacation kicks in.

Lies, it's because of dat Supah Street Fitah Fo' isn't it?

My bad.

NO WAIT FUCK THAT. JUMP WITH ME.

I was about to remind you to never apologize, but you took the right path. :yaaay:

I feel like quitting or taking a break after almost every tournament

but I just muscle through it

I ain't afraid to die

I aint gots time to bleed.

Um. Everyone plateaus at some point, then they just have to get past it. You certainly don't improve by not playing. Just sayin'.

I don't know, right now I'm in a slump and I keep trying to just plow through it but I feel like every game I play just makes me worse. My friends say this is the time you should take a break but I feel like that'll just make me rusty on top of it... but it's definitely not improving that's going on here. :psyduck: Sometimes you might forget your bad habits when you take a break.

if you take a break you lose good habits too

usually you'll just end up making your game for basic, due to forgetting about certain quirky things that can happen and the situations they can occur in, as well as forgetting match ups

but the gimmicks are what make the greats great

it's better to just make an effort to be more patient, both during and after the match

If you can't enjoy the game, don't play until you feel like start it again.

It's wasting of time if you spend your time for hobbies that you don't have fun with.

With my own experiences, you'll get better a lot faster when you enjoy what you are doing.

This is just a video game, don't torture yourself.

HOWEVER, that's so nice to be serious about just a video game! It makes me feel so human. haha

Quit smoking :psyduck: My friend was horrible at CS for a long time, despite him being tons better than me, and he quit smoking and got better. So yeah. Smoking makes you suck at fighting games. :v:

Thanks Ken, couldn't have put it better myself. Those are my thoughts word for word and I'm glad to see that someone shares the same view as I on this.

The game's felt like more of a chore recently for due to a combination of things so I'm only following my own philosophy by taking it easy on BB for a while. It's worked once before when I first started learning CT using Litchi and kept dying to Ragnas :psyduck: which in turn caused a bit of unwarranted frustration. Took a break for a few weeks and came back with a clear mind and made some real progress and more importantly, had fun with the game.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I think the whole thing with realizing that I was only making backwards progress was probably what sealed the deal and that's when the enjoyment dwindled a bit. Just stopping while ahead, but will be playing much more again for sure by summer vacation :kitty:

i figured out how to mostly drop frustration from my game by doing the following:

becoming comfortable with my own skill level, and instead of looking to ranked matches to justify my skill, being ok with a win or a loss and seeing it as a reflection of how i played while knowing how good i really am

also knowing how to play in a tournament or ranked setting is a really good thing, like that nervousness sucks dick. but ultimately its really not a big deal

for me, i try to keep it cool calm and collected and just try to rape

always try to rape

but yeah its just a game, and playing it should definitely be for fun (through competitive improvement) but if you think that chilling for a bit would help you more in the long run you should definitely go for it~

Fun can be found in all kinds of different ways - some people play because they enjoy the game itself; some play to win, some play just to improve; some play because they enjoy the company of others who do; and at least one person I know plays specifically to stop other people from being able to enjoy the game. If the lack of progress is what annoys you, there are ways to focus your practice. However, Ken nailed it - if you are indeed not having fun in any form, then pretty much everyone would rather see you doing something you enjoy instead.

Also, what the heck - I haven't seen Ken or Gnat in person in forever, and suddenly here they are in the thread!

Hey y'all. Trying to get back into the game. What is a good day for competition at AI (outside of tournaments)?

He's referring to you, Dacid. You meanie-head!

Also, Shin, Friday nights at AI are pretty happening. Good luck with parking, though.

New poster, old lurker :> But...

@Shin

Usually Friday nights are great, Saturday nights are pretty good too. Get there early for parking. I usually go there around 6-8pm and stay there until midnight with friends :D
